Generator Hostel, Amsterdam

Place was very nice and the Staff were very welcoming and helpful. The facilities were excellent, and everyone had a smile on their faces, both Staff and Guests.

The Pods were a bit dirty, and while arranging my own suitcase before checking out, I noticed a cleaner in an adjacent Pod brushing out the top of the mattress and putting in new linen and pillows but did not lift up the mattress to clean under it. This should be common practice.

I had a good stay at Generator Amsterdam for a few nights. The rooms were comfortable and mostly very clean, and the location was great with tram stops nearby and a lovely park right outside. There were plenty of opportunities to socialise if you wanted to meet people in the common areas.

There was no common bathroom area with power sockets to dry my hair in the morning and I didn’t want to disturb the people still sleeping in the room.

Nice location, comfortable pod, quiet and lively if you want it at the same time.

Only two things I didn’t like:
the guy working the reception is not very polite, I understand it can get busy but he is very indifferent and doesn’t answer questions and just pretends he doesn’t hear and talks to his coworkers. I had to pay for a towel two times because he forgot to give me one during check-in and when I came back to ask for it because I paid online after I booked, he said that I already took it and that if I want “another one” he couldn’t give it to me and that I have to pay a new one. I asked him to look at the cameras to see if he gave it to me but he dismissed me.

The other thing was the bathrooms, the floor of the bathroom was always full of water, and I don’t mean wet because someone just showered I mean always full of at least 2-3 cm of water. And the toilets have stalls with absolutely no privacy, you could actually see through so many cracks in the door. So it was a bit uncomfortable.

The location was exceptional. It required some getting used to the tram, but the location inside a beautiful park was more than one could hope for.

The facilities were mostly adequate. Just two things. The washing basin was a little clogged, and when we filled it, it took a whole night to drain. I had a mind to report it to the staff. The other thing, just a worry of an old woman. The lamps on the desks were all rickety. One on the desk may have been missing a fastening piece? It wouldn’t stay in place.

Staff were friendly and very helpful. Room felt clean and pretty spacious despite sharing it with 5 others. Lots of detail and thought into each bed with individual light, charging points and a curtain. Good cafe on site and right next to a beautiful park so well located.

The showers were cold and still expensive for a shared hostel! I paid €95 per night no breakfast!!

The Hostel is located in the heart of a beautiful park, close to public transportation and shops

First night I couldn't sleep, it was 23:00, and some young people, probably on a school trip, were running in the corridor and making a lot of noise. There is a noise policy, but it is not enforced.

Although not in the centre of the city, unlike some other hostels we saw, it is on the edge of a lovely quiet park, with an interesting 20 minute walk to the very centre (red light district, etc). Good buffet breakfast for €10 each. Nice private twin room with en suite. Good staff, young vibe, bar, lots of seating space. Like everywhere, it was very busy and vibrant for "King's Day" - see my second photo of the celebrations at the front entrance!

Being hassled by random local people for money when you go outside for a smoke at night, the security don't do much to help, they didn't seem to care that some random crack head was smoking his gear outside the entrance

Very nice location, right next to a park and close to center.

Beds are cheap and noisy. Drains barely work, hard to take shower and not to make a flood. Check-in was 45 minutes later because the room wasn’t ready by 2 pm.

Clean, nice calm location.

Didn’t provide even towels and the check in was very late. Since we could not check in at the right time, we forced to left the luggage that the lockers and payed extra money 12 euros for large and 9 euro for small).

It has amazing park around it, the whole facility look so cool and amazing, the staff is very kind.

If you are afraid of hights you should see right away if they have a lower bunker. They didn't and I was so afraid to climb up and down, I was fully stressed out.

Great location, great atmosphere. Visited with my 10 and 7 year old, great being right beside the park and tram stop, room was well sound proofed. Amazingly powerful shower!

The cabin looks amazing. I am a bit tall (190) but still fit in. There are many showers each seperated in a room you can lock. Many toilets.

The cabin felt like it was low on oxygen so you naturally turn on the AC but it can get pretty cold like that maybe i did something wrong.

The design of the hostel is really nice, also offer a beautiful view of Oosterpark!

The breakfast could be better, but good enough.

The building and the interior design are really interesting. We really enjoyed the park location and the lovely outlook. It was a good place to stay with my grandson, as despite being a hostel it had a nice family feel (it was half-term).

Some more information in the rooms - for example that you have to book room service, and some sort of local orientation where to find the nearest restaurants/attractions etc.
