ABode Hotel, Manchester

107 Piccadilly, Manchester, M1 2DB, United Kingdom. (show on map)

Expert reviews

Lonely Planet review:

“The original fittings at this converted textile factory have been combined successfully with 61 bedrooms divided into four categories of ever-increasing luxury: Comfortable, Desirable, Enviable and Fabulous on Fifth, the latter being five seriously swanky top-floor suites.”

Telegraph review:

“ABode Manchester, set in a striking 19th-century former textile warehouse, is just a two-minute walk from Piccadilly railway station. Original features such as parquet flooring and metal columns combine with quirky décor to create a stylish retreat, while a decent food and drink offering makes staying in an option.”

All you need to know

Comprising 61 rooms, ABode Manchester boasts stylish accommodations in a Victorian warehouse building. While the exterior of this structure looks historic and vintage, the interior has been refurbished with chic and contemporary design while still maintaining a few of the old-timey elements. You will notice intricate craftsmanship, a vintage staircase, and grandiose chandeliers throughout the building.

Choose from three basic rooms: Comfortable, Desirable, and Enviable. All of these rooms come with beautiful design elements, like crown molding, high ceilings, wood floors, and lovely window treatments. Each bathroom features colorful and unique tiling, along with standing glass showers. Enjoy walk-in showers, luxury bedding, and climate control, but upgrade to the Enviable room for a separate living area.

This property also has higher-tier rooms that feel like mini-apartments, all individually designed to create one-of-a-kind experiences. Guests can enjoy extra room and charming quirks, like spiral staircases and skylights, in these upgraded spaces.

You can have breakfast for an additional fee at Brasserie Abode, with menu items ranging from fresh pastries to a full English breakfast. Order in-room cocktails from the bar menu for a fun night indoors.

Right across from Piccadilly Station, and only a few minutes’ walk to the Northern Quarter, ABode Manchester offers an incredibly central location, perfect for sightseeing and exploring.

Excellent. Will deffo stay again!

Location was ideal. Breakfast lovely. Bed comfortable& room lovely and clean. Check in staff guy was very friendly.

A little too much traffic noise but that’s probably because I live on a quiet area so not used to it.

Really good value for money in great location.

Industrial vibes. Next to train station. Historic. Nice staff.

Small rooms. Our room was at the back and it was really noisy whdn trash was collected in the morning.

Nice, just missing A/C

Good location close to the train station and lots of bars with a (paying) parking behind the hotel. Rooms are nicely decorated, staff was friendly and price/quality is good.

No working A/C in the rooms, but a fancy (Dyson) fan. Not great if you’re not able to sleep with warmer temperatures. A 4* hotel should have modern A/C systems.

Great location, comfy bed, take ear plugs

Great location, comfy massive bed

Noisy and could hear people in other rooms and slamming doors, and on the street. Not soundproofed.

Very helpful staff. Room quiet, clean and just right for our break. Ideal placement

Out of action lift. Only so much exercise you can take. Also felt mattress was on the soft side.

Really nice hotel and great location

It’s really very close to the northern quarter and market street and Piccadilly station. The staff was great and the room was clean and spacious

The elevator wasn’t working the entire weekend I was there so had to take the stairs to the 4th floor each time but I got a nice work-out because of it :). Also just one elevator for a big hotel is not enough.

Comfortable stay in the heart of Manchester, 5 mins walk from the station

I stay in a lot of hotels and frankly, this one was one of the best for the price given it's central location. The room itself was a bit dated but the bed was really comfortable...not hard like most but not overly soft either. I slept really well. I was allocated Room 111 on the first floor. The room was quite large with lovely high ceilings and period features throughout. Amazingly, for the location, it was pretty quiet...bit of street noise but nothing over bearing. The bathroom was fine, with good water pressure and plenty of hot water in the shower. Another feature I loved is the windows opened to allow fresh air to enter the room...a feature not always available in many other establishments.

The kettle didn't work properly. Found a workaround for my short stay but that was my only issue which I reported upon checking out. There was an A/C unit but no controller I could find. A fan was provided (Dyson Airblade) but it wasn't the best...but it did the job.

Clean hotel in a very central location

The location is very central and the design of the hotel is very nice.

The hotel was extremely warm. We did have a fan in the room which was appreciated as the room didn't have aircon however with such a big room and old building it didn't help too much.

Good enough, though expensive during festivities.

Location was excellent and the rooms were quite nice and spaceous. Overall the staff was really helpful, especially at reception.

The room was really hot so the whole day we needed to use the mobile ac. Further, breakfast was really expensive. 20GPD per person. Then walking over to the Brasserie the prives on the menu were 5-10GPD?! We went there for the Oasis concerts. So prices were high and therefore value for money was questionable (375 per night). However, in normal circumstances this should be much better. The location makes up for a lot of these disadvantages.

Very nice hotel, let down by no aircon.

Location, Building, Decoration, Beds, Shower. Pretty much everything except the air con.

The Air Con in the room didn't work. The fact a Dyson tower fan was already in the room (the same for my three colleague's rooms) suggested it is permanently out of action. Being a city centre hotel, there isn't really an option to open a window due to noise and air quality. I can't score a hotel over 7/10 if the air con doesn't work!

Poor customer service and poorly groomed staff

Good location good room size.

We stayed 1 night for the Oasis gig. No air con working in our room. They had put a small rotating fan in the room but this did not alleviate the humidity. Breakfast and the service by the waiting staff was poor. No butter or sauces provided or offered by staff. The edges of the toast on the cooked breakfast were very hard. My wife's bacon was all stuck together and not cooked sufficiently. We tried to get their attention but we didn't manage to do that until we had finished our breakfast, finally called a waiter over and showed him the bacon,he agreed it looked undercooked and barely edible. He did not offer a coffee or juice as a goodwill gesture, so I said can we have 2 more juices please and he said yes.We waited for 10mins but they never arrived. So we went back to.our room and checked out. The receptionist said did we enjoy our stay, so explained about breakfast. She said you can have a coffee or juice to take with you but we declined. She was very polite and apologetic and obviously this was no fault on her behalf. We also thought a few of the reception staff and waiting staff looked quite unkempt and some of their uniforms didn't look clean. You expect better service when you pay 335 quid for one night with brekkie.

Comfortable stay with good breakfast included in a very reasonable nightly rate.

The location was ideal and the room & bathroom were very comfortable and clean. We really appreciated the very high standard fan provided as well in the hot weather which meant we had a comfortable sleep despite the AC not working.

Not much we didn’t like - perhaps some of the decor could do with upgrading.

Great hotel great location let down by no air conditioning on a very hot night

Stated here before and love it - great location, good sized rooms, lovely bathrooms and great facilities

We stayed on a really hot night and the air conditioning wasn’t working. The room had a fan but as the windows didn’t open the room was very very hot. This is my one criticism- everything else was great and I’ve stayed before and would stay again but would check re air conditioning if weather was hot

A comfortable. well designed hotel, very convenient for the station

The hotel is very close to the station and in a beautiful building. There are lots of places to eat, shops, bars etc nearby. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was on the small side but had all I needed, and had nice complimentary toiletries. Decor is tasteful and modern and the communal areas, especially the bar and restaurant area are lovely. I had a very nicely cooked English breakfast served to me by a cheery waiter and the bar man kindly made me up an ice bucket to take to my room in the evening. I paid £76 for b&b which I thought for a city centre was quite reasonable. although it was a Sunday night and the hotel wasn't busy from what I could see.

The room was very hot, only one window opened a crack and the aircon wasn't working. A Dyson-type fan had been provided which provided some cooling air but even with that on constantly, I woke in the night sweltering. The room had a high up window at the end of the bed where my head was and when it got light in the morning, I had the sun streaming in on me because I'd struggled to pull the curtain across. There was a ringing noise (like an alarm) going off for ages in the evening which was irritating, but obviously not the hotel's fault. I thought that the TV was on the small side. I went out to get some food in the evening and found the area outside the hotel going up to Piccadilly gardens very unpleasant. It was rubbish strewn and there were lots of homeless people / people begging. Around Piccadilly Gardens a woman was screaming in the street at a man calling him a crack head and telling him to keep away from the kids and there were large groups of men hanging about. I know none of this is the hotel's fault and locations around stations are often a bit sketchy but as a single female, I didn't like the atmosphere and quickly went back to the hotel when I had been planning to go for a walk around the area. I have to say on Monday morning the place felt completely different outside with no sign of people begging or groups of men hanging about.

Lovely design throughout and great value with friendly staff

Amazing design throughout the hotel and room. Comfy, spacious, with all details and amenities well thought out. Lots of wood (always preferred over carpet!) Wouldn't hesitate to stay again. :)

Confusing that the cheap bottle of water in the room had to be paid for (not in a minibar).

Unfortunately the aircon didn't work in out room, a fan was already in the room to use but would have been better for the aircon to have worked. Minimal hanging space as there was no waredrobe

Outstanding character, great location, a few niggles but would go again

Exceptional character in lovely building, with furniture to suit. Good space in rooms.

Air con didn't work. "Unlimited" breakfast was in practice limited to one option served. Some confusion between the hotel's system and Booking.com's (sorted out fairly easily).

Perfect location

The building was beautiful. The rooms were big and there was a huge bed. The tram station was in walking distance, so perfect for our concert.

The mattress was too soft for my liking, and the air conditioning wasn't working on a hot weekend.

Great hotel

Great looking hotel with stunning period features if a little tired around the edges with lots of places needing a re-paint.

There was 1 staff member at breakfast who really shouldn't be in hospitality! To say she was cold and unhelpfully is an understatement.

Delightful hotel, nestled in the heart of Piccadilly with wonderful staff

Great setting and location for our concert, the decor was fantastic very tasteful and the staff couldn’t have been more helpful and friendly

No a/c as it was broken so a warm night, the staff did however deliver a very helpful ice fan to try and Taj the edge off. There was also a Dyson fan in the room which we totally missed so our fault!

Good hotel but won’t stay again in a hurry

It’s in a great location (literally minutes from Piccadilly station), easy to find, good cheap parking, very comfortable bed, good shower/bathroom, spacious room.

Staff are very helpful but not very friendly, one receptionist barely looked up from the desk. The lift is slow, small and very rickety. Room is clean but rough around the edges, the curtain netting was dirty and so was the window. There’s an air con unit in the room but it didn’t work, so we were provided with a Dyson fan however doesn’t give off much power so it was quite hot. Water bottles provided but at £2.50 each! No fridge. Woken after midnight by slamming doors and the noise of hoovering.

Clean and perfect location

Enjoyed the stay a lot, perfect location and close to the station, shopping and the Northern quarter. The place was clean, rooms were spacious and definitely worth the price. The staff were super helpful and kind too. One of the guys (not sure his name) was a top guy and made sure we had all the help to move our luggage to and from our room due to the lift being faulty.

Just the lifts were not working the two days we were there. Other than that, pretty much perfect
