Location and mood

Not all the reception staff were well prepared. They booked a taxi to the airport for us, telling us it would cost between €45 and €50, but we ended up paying €82! A kettle would be useful.

There were too many people around because it is a hostel. Breakfast took too long because there were no mugs or other dishes. The bathroom needs some proper cleaning, mold in the shower(

Location cleanliness and comfort. Staff were very helpful. I loved waking up to a view over the park.

Lamp and fan in room were slightly broken although still working. Staff were helpful in getting them fixed

The mattress in the pod is pretty awful.

I stayed at Generator and absolutely loved it! I’m a solo female traveler from Brazil and felt really welcomed. The accommodations are clean and comfortable — I stayed in a mixed dorm with 5 other people and it was totally fine. The staff is super friendly and helpful, and the vibe of the place is great. There’s a bar, common areas to hang out, bikes for rent right outside, and even a little techno party for when you want to go out but stay close. The only thing to note is that the hostel is about a 10-minute bike ride from the city center, and it’s located in the middle of a park with no lighting at night. It’s safe and quiet, but the dark path might feel a bit uncomfortable if you’re walking back alone. Other than that, I had an amazing stay and would definitely come back!

Great checkin functionality we had to checkin late and there were no issues. good location and evrything was clean

The bed was 3 tiered while getting on top bunk bed there was nothing to hold on to which made it a bit scary to get on and off the bed

The kitchen for dinner closes a bit early, but I guess it's Dutch hours.

The location is just perfect and unique. In the middle of a park. The restaurant area is very nice and all areas o the hotel in general. Staff from the cafe was very friendly and proffesional and make amazing coffee and homemade croissants. The female dorm is good, safe and the beds are comfortable. The toilets are clean which is very important. Overall I had a nice stay. And I am willing to come back

The reception staff is not very friendly. The manager, an indian lady is very rude and I would say a little aggressive. Not great for a front-desk job. Also I arrived late at night and my bed was not made there was nothing not even a pillow. This is something that needs to be improved.

A very fun place to stay with a beautiful common study room. The staff were super friendly and helpful, as were the girls in my dorm :)

Charge to rent a towel was 7€ - if I had known before I would have brought my own 😂 Also coming back alone on Saturday night felt low-key sketchy 🥲

There's a beautiful park near where it's situated, which typically means some form of walking to get there. Overall it was great. I like that the elevator works and the water heater in the bathroom works.

I guess because it was my first time, it was difficult to locate. Especially since I arrived at night.

I had to pay 91 dollars my last night. It was a last min change. I stayed 3 days that week.

There were auditorium, bars & cafe, with games and such available. the room was spacy, the bathroom and toilet were comfortable and huge. there is a sink and mirrors for us to get ready. each of us has one huge enough drawer to store our belongings (have to buy a lock if you need one).

the community spaces (auditorium, bars) are closed around 12am, so we couldn't hang out for long. there were no common kitchen as well for me to make instant noodles/coffee when the cafe is closed. the floor of the room sometimes is kinda sandy. so providing a room slipper would be nice! :) & more hangars too!

The atmosphere was great!

The sink was in the room and we were disturbing each other.

An addict invaded the breakfast area two days in a role and even grabbed what a tourist was eating from her plate I felt insecure and now I’m scared to return wondering if the guy could break into the rooms

Great location with privacy curtains and extra large lockers. Laundry is good and they sell Tidepods. Didn't eat at the restaurant though it seemed crowded every day. Security at night. Gorgeous park out front.

No real quiet place to work. Only manageable place is in the basement by the bathrooms 😑 But it's loud down there too. They have a library (why I booked the place) but it's just for show and only for events. I had to walk 15 minutes to the university library when I wanted to work. Staff unconcerned as there are loud groups of people all over the property. 20ft high beds. Overhead light did not work in room. Maybe a change in cleaning supplies as I was there for a week and couldn't tell whether things were getting cleaned. Trash and TP changed but things actually cleaned....not sure.

value for money, from young to old and all kinds of people - enjoyed the diversity and also the fact that different accommodation options are available

tried to stay in a pod which turns not to be comfortable enough but it was my choice. The mattress could have been better though

There seems to be a night club just under our room, loud music until beginning of the morning.

The hostel is well repaired, each bed has a dark curtain, due to light insulation each person has as if his own isolated space on the bed. Otherwise, the room is very small, it is problematic for two people to walk together, for three people - almost next to each other.

The most unpleasant thing was that after the first night I found a place on my leg from some insect bite, which swelled up and itched a lot. I went to the staff and they asked me: "Do you want to move out?". I said no, but at least let them check the bed. The linen was changed the same day. I got the impression that they don't value each individual visitor very much, as people are constantly changing in the hostel, and there will still be clients.

The high price for small things, we paid €8.50 for a padlock for a single box.

The breakfast was excellent, about 15 mims to the centre by tram. There is a lovely park, where you can relax, jog, do some sport activities and workout too. The POD is quite small, and not too comfortable for a long stay. Toilet and bath very clean. Great atmosphere and people.

Excellent budget-friendly option! The room was clean and the beds were comfortable. While the room was a bit small, it was as expected. The breakfast was a great value, and the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. The decor throughout the hostel, both in the rooms and common areas, was unique and full of character. It's located in a peaceful area right by Oosterpark, and getting to the city center or main attractions is easy with public transport—just about 20 minutes.

We loved the area around here, it is beautiful and quiet. The room is a good size and clean. Only “complaint” is that there aren’t any towels in the room, not even hand towels.

There was no shampoo or shower gel in the shower.

I didnt expect the bunk beds to be this high, so I would've appreciated a small disclaimer. There were some hair on the sheets which was a bit uncomfortable for me but overall the cleanliness was good and the mattress was surprisingly comfortable. The beds are also not squeaky and pretty private. I love the other amenities and the location was great too. The breakfast was small but satisfactory for the price you pay.

I got a good price and the location was 15 mins walk from my daughter's flat, through the lovely park. First time i've stayed in a hostel type hotel. I've learned how to make it work. Other 3 in my room were very thoughtful noise wise when they arrived when I was already reading in bed. I suppose that could be a different story but I was lucky.

Wasn't impressed by my coffee at the cafe, but that's nit-picking.

I like the positive vibes, energy of the place. It is run intelligently. Communication is always straight forward and honest. And kind. I love the mix of people we can meet here, all ages, all origins. I am always coming back at the Generator… each time I am visiting Amsterdam.

The breakfast was only okay

I stayed four nights on the third floor, had great sleep and felt good. It was quiet at night although we heard now and then some conversation from other rooms, but in general it was fine. The location is fine, too, as it is in a park a bit away from the centre, but still OK to walk to the main attractions. The room is simple but functional.

The floor in the room was not completely clean (dust). However, the bed was OK. Not sure whether lower floors provide the same level of separation from a bit noisy atmosphere at the ground floor. Would appreciate more egg variations for breakfast as only scrambled and to be honest not really tasty eggs were available.

Good quality accommodation, reasonably priced, perfect for a city break weekend. Location is slightly out of the centre, but Amsterdam is well-connected with Trams that can get you to the centre very quickly. Twin Ensuite (Private) Room was perfect size, had charging sockets, clean ensuite and Towels included. Bar/Café area downstairs seemed to play the main sports matches that were on at the time, nice for a chilled drink or two.

A very minor thing - Beds could be a little comfier as were quite hard, but still slept well nonetheless.

It’s massive and there is a lot of things to do. They have activites throughout the week. Auditorium is lovely, and breakfast is tasty.

As you know I was there 3 months and the F&B side should be ashamed as to what happened too the breakfast buffet, which I laugh at!!! Sorry
