Generator Hostel, Amsterdam

Although not in the centre of the city, unlike some other hostels we saw, it is on the edge of a lovely quiet park, with an interesting 20 minute walk to the very centre (red light district, etc). Good buffet breakfast for €10 each. Nice private twin room with en suite. Good staff, young vibe, bar, lots of seating space. Like everywhere, it was very busy and vibrant for "King's Day" - see my second photo of the celebrations at the front entrance!

Being hassled by random local people for money when you go outside for a smoke at night, the security don't do much to help, they didn't seem to care that some random crack head was smoking his gear outside the entrance

Very nice location, right next to a park and close to center.

Beds are cheap and noisy. Drains barely work, hard to take shower and not to make a flood. Check-in was 45 minutes later because the room wasn’t ready by 2 pm.

I had the absolute best advice on what to eat around the area and places to go to from Samuel who works at the front desk. He is always so pleasant and helpful. I found the other front desk staff to be rather standoffish and unfriendly but Samuel was the complete opposite. The rooms are rather small in the dorms but functional. For a hostel the beds were comfy and I had good sleep. Location was also in a quiet area not too far from the centre of the city. My only gripe is that there is no shared kitchen. Overall a very pleasant stay!

Clean, nice calm location.

Didn’t provide even towels and the check in was very late. Since we could not check in at the right time, we forced to left the luggage that the lockers and payed extra money 12 euros for large and 9 euro for small).

It has amazing park around it, the whole facility look so cool and amazing, the staff is very kind.

If you are afraid of hights you should see right away if they have a lower bunker. They didn't and I was so afraid to climb up and down, I was fully stressed out.

Great location, great atmosphere. Visited with my 10 and 7 year old, great being right beside the park and tram stop, room was well sound proofed. Amazingly powerful shower!

The staff and the energy of the place was great. Location was very nice.

The doors are very loud and it can be tough to sleep especially in the mornings. Also can hear lots of noise from other rooms. Did not sleep well during the trip.

Convenient location

Very noisy especially at 3am from 4am, people on top of us were moving furniture or something and I am not joking for the entire hour. The noise coming from the top floor was very loud , like there was no sound insulation at all. The room was not clean as we saw long hair everywhere on the floors. The self check in machines were not working either so we had to wait until someone "had time" to serve us as they were busy watching reels on their phones.

I was requested extra pillow 3 days in row and only on third day they told me that they not have extra pillows, it was make feel like they do not know what they have in hostel

Central location well connected to the city centre with trams.

The bunk beds were uncomfortable and too high (3 levels) and they were quite dusty.

The cabin looks amazing. I am a bit tall (190) but still fit in. There are many showers each seperated in a room you can lock. Many toilets.

The cabin felt like it was low on oxygen so you naturally turn on the AC but it can get pretty cold like that maybe i did something wrong.

The design of the hostel is really nice, also offer a beautiful view of Oosterpark!

There’s a really good self-serving system. This hostel has cafe on ground floor, and you can eat breakfast or dinner there, or just go for drinks. Rooms are equipped with everything mentioned in the description. Stuff is really friendly. Location is pretty good, walkable distance from centre, and really close to public transport stations. Great experience

Due to group booking of students, I have received a free room upgrade. Nice staff I have received a comp.drink whilst waiting for late check-in. Nightshift security crew awesome guy, I have received more information from him rather than a reception.

The building and the interior design are really interesting. We really enjoyed the park location and the lovely outlook. It was a good place to stay with my grandson, as despite being a hostel it had a nice family feel (it was half-term).

Some more information in the rooms - for example that you have to book room service, and some sort of local orientation where to find the nearest restaurants/attractions etc.

The location is wonderful on the edge of the Oosterpark - you get a beautiful view of the park from the room. However, this makes the coming and going a little scary in the night when there are not so many people around. The ho(s)tel delivered exactly what it promised - a small room with a private bathroom for a reasonable price.

There was smell of weed coming through the corridor and loud music in the evenings coming from some rooms. I do understand it comes with the type of accommodation, but it certainly did not improve my stay.

The room was clean, there was a shower and a toilet in the room which surprised me. The bed was clean and comfortable with enough privacy.

The bunk beds had three floors and the third bed was a bit hard to climb to. The location was a bit bad because there were some wierd people around and I got yelled at "fuck you" by a random guy on a bicycle for no reason while I was just walking towards the hostel entrance.

I got the top bunk, which didn't have a curtain of its own, so I got little protection (even the kind of subconscious protection a curtain provides) from the noise and lights in the room.

Felt reasonably safe and secure, nice location. Comfortable beds and bathroom facilities. Check out was smooth and we were able to extend our parking time, which was very helpful.

The check in process was very slow (despite presubmittting requested details) and we were charged €5 per person for late checkout, not €15 per private room as advertised.

It could be more near to the center, expect 30-40 minute walking. Having to buy/rent towels is not great, would add that to the basic package

We noticed that there is no kettle or cutlery provided. Also, our room hasn't been serviced since we arrive.

The room was really nice and the bathroom was spacious, it has a nice view on the park. The rooms are clean and the beds are too. Plenty of storage

The location is perfect, short tram or uber into the centre. Surrounding bars and restaurants are fairly priced and have excellent food. I have stayed in a few areas in Amsterdam and this was by far the best place to stay. It’s nice for you not to be in the thick of it, it’s nice to get away and choose to venture in.

The park on an evening can be scary. Security do the best job at preventing homeless people from coming near though.

For the money we paid was perfect. Clean enough, good facilities and not problem regarding noice. The park around the hotel was also very nice and not big distance from downtown..

My room is family room so it’s includes everything (towels, small pantry, tissue paper and others) and big enough for 5 peoples. Views from our room is incredible (hotel state in a park)

Parking fee is very expensive. Staff is busy all the time because it’s like a hostel.

We had to pay 7 euros per towel! Had we known, we would have brought or bought cheap towels at Hema…

Hostel was ok, I think we just got unlucky with the people in our dorm. No one was considerate. Didn’t like the triple bunk either

Bed was comfortable, the whole place looked modern and clean.

Room was a bit small/tight even for us 4 young people in a family. Individual storage space was limited to the box under the bunk beds, no additional hanging place or other more convenient storage. Wouldnt recommend for longer stays or for staying with strangers in the room.

My first bike was slightly damaged, but I got a new one.

One of the best hostels in Amsterdam. Very well located in Oosterpark. Easy access to public transportation, just a few tram stops to the city centre.

the place was amazing, good location by public transport etc. great facilities and soooo clean for a hostel. honestly it’s but the standards so high for my next hostel stay!! it was snowing when i went and it was magical

only issue was the mattress was thin in the pods, other than that it was amazing 100% need thicker mattress!!
