Generator Hostel, Amsterdam

Amazing night staff, some people in our group had a problem with some cakes we bought and the staff was supper helpful in solving the problem

It could be more near to the center, expect 30-40 minute walking. Having to buy/rent towels is not great, would add that to the basic package

We noticed that there is no kettle or cutlery provided. Also, our room hasn't been serviced since we arrive.

The room was really nice and the bathroom was spacious, it has a nice view on the park. The rooms are clean and the beds are too. Plenty of storage

The sink was clogged. Took forever to drain.

The location was very convenient, and the park the hostel is in is very cute.

The room was too crowded, with triple-high bunk beds that were very inconvenient. Not enough space for bags.

The location is perfect, short tram or uber into the centre. Surrounding bars and restaurants are fairly priced and have excellent food. I have stayed in a few areas in Amsterdam and this was by far the best place to stay. It’s nice for you not to be in the thick of it, it’s nice to get away and choose to venture in.

The park on an evening can be scary. Security do the best job at preventing homeless people from coming near though.

For the money we paid was perfect. Clean enough, good facilities and not problem regarding noice. The park around the hotel was also very nice and not big distance from downtown..

My room is family room so it’s includes everything (towels, small pantry, tissue paper and others) and big enough for 5 peoples. Views from our room is incredible (hotel state in a park)

Parking fee is very expensive. Staff is busy all the time because it’s like a hostel.

We had to pay 7 euros per towel! Had we known, we would have brought or bought cheap towels at Hema…

Hostel was ok, I think we just got unlucky with the people in our dorm. No one was considerate. Didn’t like the triple bunk either

Bed was comfortable, the whole place looked modern and clean.

Room was a bit small/tight even for us 4 young people in a family. Individual storage space was limited to the box under the bunk beds, no additional hanging place or other more convenient storage. Wouldnt recommend for longer stays or for staying with strangers in the room.

Had a room with 4 beds just for me alone. You can rent bikes to explore the city, which is great.

My first bike was slightly damaged, but I got a new one.

One of the best hostels in Amsterdam. Very well located in Oosterpark. Easy access to public transportation, just a few tram stops to the city centre.

the place was amazing, good location by public transport etc. great facilities and soooo clean for a hostel. honestly it’s but the standards so high for my next hostel stay!! it was snowing when i went and it was magical

only issue was the mattress was thin in the pods, other than that it was amazing 100% need thicker mattress!!

Nothing really, all good, Amsterdam is very expensive in general but that's not the hostels fault! Consequently you can pay as much for a hostel bed in Amsterdam as a small hotel room in other places. But that's just how it is.

I really like Generator hostels, and this one met my expectations. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and everything was clean and well maintained.

The location is nice during the day, as it is situated in a park. In the evenings, the walk felt somewhat uncomfortable for me as a solo female traveler, since reaching the hostel requires walking through the park.

The bedrooms are small, we were in a group of five but i imagine person travelling alone sharing the bedroom with other people its really small

Convenient location, beautiful interior, clean and good service, nearby is a lake with lots of birds, very quiet area.

The booking said that the room had a place to store things, but our room did not have a wardrobe or chest of drawers, there was only a hanger for outerwear, and small shelves near the beds. There was also only 1 chair with a back in the room, so you would have to spread things out everywhere on the surfaces, as well as on the floor, which is not very convenient. Also, the entrance to the room was via steep stairs, and after injuring my knee it was not very convenient, but we did not specify this in advance, and perhaps we could have asked to change the room, but we did not do this, unfortunately.

The staff were very friendly, and the building has high ceilings, which makes the air feel very comfortable inside the room. It’s clean and simple, although the lighting is a bit dim. I feel that Amsterdam in general is quite dark everywhere (this is still a question I haven’t found the answer to). The hot water works perfectly.

There is no kitchen, not even a simple utilities. There’s no microwave or anything similar, so you pay only the room only comes with a bed and a bathroom.

The inspired conversion from a former college building gives this accommodation an orderly, welcoming and uplifting gravitas. The centrepiece: a beautiful lecture theatre-cum-bar-cum-lounge, which makes for a great space to stop and recharge. During my stay, I prioritised sleep in my four-bedroom dormitory (clean and comfortable) and enjoyed the breakfast buffet in the bustling café-bar area, overlooking Oosterpark. All the staff served me with care, dedication and enthusiasm for my stay, for the hostel amenities and for the Amsterdam surroundings. Yes, the vibes are hip and cool, and somewhat younger than I on average (I am 42!), but the vibes were also warm and efficient, making for a great foundation for my brief visit. Thank you to the Generator Amsterdam team!

I got a bit confused with the breakfast buffet system and where to go to start, but I got it after a little wait.

Great location, lovely staff, nice room and great value for money. We loved the cafe and auditorium and our room has a great view over the park- even spotted some parrots! Also very clean.

The bed and pillows could have been a bit comfier but overall very good for the price

Both the pod I stayed in and the shared areas were very clean. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The location right at the edge of Oosterpark is perfect — centrally located, but still safe and peaceful.

It got very hot in my pod at night, even with the air vents fully opened. I also feel like the fees for towels and luggage storage were a bit exorbitant.

It is alright, the location was good and it seemed to have good shared amenities. Got a room with for me and my friends with 4 beds on two bunkbeds.

If you are over 6 foot you will not be able to lie down normally in the bunk beds without hitting your head on the front of the bed or your feet at the end of the bed. Only 1 dryer was working when we were there.

It’s a really cool property with lots in it.

The location was perfect in the middle of a park and close to a couple of stations. The place also felt lively and very clean

The room was very very small. I booked a bed in the 6 person female room and i was very lucky not to get the bed third on top (The bunkbed was three levels). It was quite crammed and i didn’t find enough space to move or put my stuff
