Hotel Bauer Palazzo, Venice

This was by far the best hotel we stayed in during our Trip to Italy. You can't beat the location of Bauer Palazzo. The lobby is right in front of all the designer shopping in Venice but also in tucked away enough that the foot traffic isn't too heavy in front of the hotel. The hotel bar is right on the Grande Canal so we enjoyed having a cocktail out there before dinner. The room was very spacious (particularly for a hotel room in Italy). It is also a very short walk to St. Mark's Square.

The only negative about this hotel is that our particular room was right above the area where people were getting on and off their gondola boat rides. So it was pretty noisy starting around 10am until the evening. But it was part of the charm of Venice I guess.

The hotel is run down, rooms are very small, the beds are old and too hard. The bathroom was dangerous, bath was very slippery. Some staff was helpful and friendly, some were very rude.

The rooms were not 5 star caliber. And some of the staf was very rude.

A stunning location right in the heart of San Marco. Excellent views from a large spacious suite. Service was excellent you definitely get the 5 star experience- living the dream. Nothing was too much trouble and the concierge team were phenomenal.

Location was great and the terrace was wonderful for breakfast.

Our suite was very dark and lights needed to be on all day. The rooms smelled stale but in opening the windows I let in mosquitos so made matters worse.

a 5 star hotel with none of the 5 star experience or service. breakfast was included in room rate yes it was a 15 euros to have it delivered to the room. Ordered 2 coffees to the room and the delivery charge was more that the cost of the coffee. No iron as it was deemed a safety issue but they would happily press for a ridiculous extra charge. Mini bar cooler didn't work. We forgot our charger and hotel had none and no adapters to offer. All staff very rude and everything seemed an effort. Very disappointing given the price paid.

Lovely, old-fashioned hotel right on the Grand Canal. We got a good deal as we booked a year ago, so for us it was good value although I see that prices have risen significantly. Throughout our stay the staff we met were friendly and efficient but unobtrusive. The breakfasts were great but we didn't eat there otherwise. I believe the hotel is soon to undergo renovation and I hope they don't lose all of the beautiful old features like the deco room numbers and doors.

We were happy with everything. It's a minor gripe but having a double bed rather than twin beds pushed together would've been preferable. .

The location is really ideal and the view from the breakfast room is surely one of the best in all of Venice!

The hotel receptionists are absolutely not doing their job properly, especially for an establishment of this standard. They are not listening and do not particularly seek to provide answers to customers. They are expeditious, they do not take the time to present all the services that customers can benefit from within the establishment. Some of the benefits of the hotel are inaccessible anyway. The hotel is supposed to have a rooftop restaurant on the top floor with a great view! Except that the restaurant is permanently privatized for events. In 7 days, there has not been an evening where we have been able to dine there... And even worse is the cleaning staff, it's the first time I have a such bad experience with a hotel employee. One evening on returning after a day of visiting, we find that one of my companion's perfume bottles is broken and the cleaning staff has tried to hide it. After a complaint to reception, nothing happens; reception doesn't do much. I had to complain several times insistently to the reception so that they ended up offering to reimburse me for the bottle. (Except the bottle is irreplaceable, it was a creator gift) In addition, during the continuation of the stay, we began to notice thefts... Thefts of beauty products, in particular.

rooftop sometimes open,sometimes not open unfriendly waiters ,with lots of attitude but no interests for their customers,despite the high prices on the menu. This was the only negative experience, and it was no coinsidence ; been there 3 times : 3 times same attitude.

Fabulous location with super ground floor terrace and rooftop terrace. Good varied buffet breakfast and friendly staff.

Poor Wi-Fi connection in our room but perhaps to be expected in an old building. Had to go to public areas to get good connection

Food on the downstairs terrace was very average - go for a drink to enjoy the view and then get lunch or dinner elsewhere!

The concierge here is excellent and went out of their way when I lost my cell phone to help me get it back.

Luxurious, spacious and great location. The hotel staff service was excellent. The outdoor balcony restaurant for breakfast and aperitivi was simply out sanding, as was the breakfast buffet.

Bauer is well-known in Venice as it comes with considerable heritage. And you can still sense this heritage in the building, in the old decor, art deco furniture or art. It has an atmosphere, even though it may come off as a bit gloomy. Value for money, however, is hard to beat, especially if you book early. Location is fantastic, just a stone's throw from piazza San Marco and the hotel has its own gondola stop, which means you arrive in the motorboat directly to its doorstep. Very, very convenient. Room was fine and bathroom had excellent size - even bigger than the living/sleeping area - equipped with both a tub and separate shower. Personal care products are replenished daily and smell very nice. Breakfast has a good selection and you can always place special orders for eggs etc. Service staff is qualified and pleasant. Terrace where breakfasts are served (+ a bar service during the day) is really lovely and typically not very busy so you can catch some respite from the crowds of Venice in the summer. Rooftop bar is the highest in Venice and offers remarkable views (even if drinks come at a premium).

Some of its advantages - like heritage and history - are also drawbacks as the hotel looks a bit tired and outdated, and some furniture needs fixing (or rather a complete update). That said, it is already due for a refurb starting this November and will be closed for subsequent 3 years, so you can really ignore this comment (it's for the archives). Looking forward to seeing its new incarnation in 2025 :) Restaurant at the ground level is, unfortunately, not up to standards and prices. Steak I ordered was burnt (how can you burn a grilled steak? seriously?), other dishes a bit heavy and unbalanced - certainly not worth the premium price. New cooks/chef are needed.

An excellent breakfast was right by the lapping water and boats. The light on the historic skyline across the way was stunning. The San Marco vaporetto stop could be reached without stairs.

The crowds in August where too much but it was a central location to easily reach less crowded spots in all directions.

The hotel is beautiful and a great location on the grand canal close to San Marco where we spent most of our time, while still only a 15 minute walk to the Rialto bridge and the other districts of Venice. The concierge was great, booking us a water taxi right off the side of the hotel to take us to the train station when we left and recommending a gem of a little restaurant for lunch not too far away. The rooms were classic Venetian and the roof top terrace for Aperol Spritz was a beautiful end to the day!

A wonderful location right near San Marco Piazza but tucked around a corner out of the crowds. beautiful terrazza for meals, drinks, coffee overlooking the canal and lagoon. beautifully appointed, fabulous food, great staff. will definitely visit again.

The hotel doesn’t provide you a transportation from the parking area..

Staff were excellent. One night I was having pains and thought that the pharmacies were closed, the woman at reception called around and found an open one that I could go to to get painkillers. They just go above and beyond here. The bars are beautiful, the beds are so comfy we barely wanted to leave the room. Excellent location.

Our room didn't really have a view, and I felt the prices in the mini bar were extortionate even for a 5* hotel!

Fantastic location right next to San Marco Square with great views - especially the terrace overlooking the water where gondolas and boats would pass. Spacious room/suite (although it of course didn't come cheap), very clean and very good breakfast in lovely dining room / terrace next to the water with amazing views.

Some of the service was hit and miss in terms of the speed (we waited a very long time one day to be served coffee at the terrace bar) although the staff were always very polite and cheerful. Some of the areas in the hotel could do with updating a bit as they look very worn. Small point - it was a little strange that there was no coffee / tea making facilities in the room or an iron - although I understand that this may have been due to fire regulations in Venice (rather than them making you use their services!). Room was a little noisy in the mornings as hotel is right next to the gondola / water taxi station (which is of course convenient) and they were also doing some building works nearby.

The epitome of luxury! My husband and I travelled to Italy in August for my 40th birthday and I planned to have my actual day in Venice. In researching places to stay, the Bauer caught my eye, with its spectacular location and photos of the rooms showing the beautiful rich colors and fabrics which give that real romantic and luxurious appeal. I couldn’t resist and booked a suite for 3 days. As it was a milestone birthday, I wanted something special and boy, did I get it! On arrival to this beautiful hotel, we were met by the warm, friendly staff who checked us in and walked us to the elevator, where we were advised we had been upgraded and I was wished a very happy birthday. The suite was something else, with a small balcony overlooking the terrace and canal, separate living area, enormous bedroom and bathroom, and decorated in beautiful gold tone fabrics. I felt like I was in a movie scene when my husband popped the cork on the champagne, left as a welcome / birthday gift from the hotel, and opened the balcony doors to watch and hear the gondoliers singing in the canals. What an exceptional experience! From the moment we set foot in the Bauer, we were catered for hand and foot by the incredible staff, from reception, the concierge, breakfast staff and terrace staff, everyone was so attentive and more than happy to assist. Everything was perfect, such a beautiful experience and one I will never forget and treasure forever! Thank-you to all at the Bauer, you will always have my recommendation as the number 1 establishment to stay in beautiful Venice and I will definitely return.

Most staff were friendly and professional. Rooftop bar and restaurant spectacular and food there was excellent. Breakfast on canal-side terrace also a real Venetian experience. Rapid access to shops and museums.

Room’s faded luxury not ideal for older guests. Struggle to climb in and out of shower in the antique bath. Poor recharging facilities for phones etc..

Our rooms were all together as requested, so thank you for that. The rooms were ok, not amazing but satisfactory. The front desk staff were very pleasant and helpful. Service generally was very good. The location was very good, in the centre of the main tourist area, with a Gondola stop right outside the front doors.

The price of the drinks at the roof top bar and the cost of the breakfast. We had four standard bottles of Peroni, four cocktails and two bottles of water, this cost 242 Euros! At a cost of £300 per night, I would have thought a simple buffet style breakfast should be included. Your charge of 45 Euros per person is in my opinion excessive, especially as you do not offer a menu service.
