Ca’ Sagredo Hotel, Venice

Campo Santa Sofia, 4198/99, 30121 Venezia VE, Italy (show on map)

Ca’ Sagredo Hotel is a breathtaking 14th-century Byzantine-Gothic palace perched directly on the Grand Canal. Originally built by the influential Morosini family, it was later purchased by the prestigious Sagredo family, who were renowned patrons of the arts. The property is so historically significant that it has been declared a National Monument, offering guests the rare opportunity to stay within a preserved piece of Venetian history.

The hotel is essentially a private museum. Its interiors are adorned with authentic 17th and 18th-century masterpieces, including stunning ceiling frescoes by artists like Pietro Longhi and Giambattista Tiepolo. One of the property’s most iconic features is the magnificent grand staircase, designed by Andrea Tirali in 1732, which serves as a dramatic centerpiece of the palace’s aristocratic legacy.

Beyond its artistic grandeur, the hotel offers a refined, tranquil atmosphere. Guests can enjoy a meal at the L’Alcova restaurant, which features a terrace overlooking the water—perfect for watching gondolas drift by. It feels like stepping back five centuries into the life of a Venetian noble, yet it remains perfectly comfortable for the modern traveler.

Its location in the Cannaregio district is ideal for those who want to be close to the action without being in the thick of the tourist crush. You are only a short, scenic walk from the iconic Rialto Bridge, and the famous St. Mark’s Square is easily reached by a pleasant stroll or a quick vaporetto ride, making it a perfectly situated base for your Venetian adventure.

Expert reviews

Fodors review:

“A bastion of Old World elegance in the peaceful Cannaregio neighborhood, Ca’Sagredo is housed in a 15th-century palace. It showcases some of the best-preserved interiors in Venice.”

Featured as Fodor’s Choice in Venice.

CN Johansens review:

“The sheer beauty of Ca’ Sagredo Hotel is weep-with-joy wondrous. As you pull up alongside the Grand Canal, you’ll need to pinch yourself, and again when you step inside. This 15th-century palazzo has been declared a National Monument and it’s certainly a monument to decadence!”

Forbes review:

“Ca’ Sagredo Hotel is an Italian national monument, but the Venice boutique hotel stands out for two other reasons: first, the meticulous preservation of the palace’s original frescoes, stuccoes, paintings, and other works of art, and its dazzling location on the Grand Canal just across from the famous Rialto market.”

CNN review:

“One of the grandest dames of the Grand Canal, this salmon-pink 14th-century palazzo near the Ca’ d’Oro and Casino was built by the Sagredo family and only became a hotel in 2007 — and even then it was designated a national monument.”

Venice has many beautiful hotels so you are better not staying here!

The location of the Hotel is great and the historic aesthetics stunning. It’s a very old building with some beautiful antique furniture to match.

In many areas of our room it simply wasn’t clean. Appreciate the age of the building and the historic preservation can cause challenges on certain things. However mould is simply not acceptable in any hotel never mind a 5 star one charging these high room rates and the use of a hoover causes no damage to the room. However the most disappointing thing was the poor attitude of the staff. Really no customer focus, no engagement with guests and a let down to a 5 star hotel.

A good location, nice restaurant staff otherwise poor and overpriced

The location is great and the restaurant staff were very professional and helpful.

The hotel is extremely tired looking, furniture in hallways and the walls in need of painting. There is a vaporetto station outside the hotel which wakes you up at 6.30-7am and can keep you awake at night. Room cleaning was haphazard. For the cost you can find a better option.

Pleasant

Great location, room with a view on the Grand Canal. The building is really old and very interesting.

Hotel feels slightly outdated and running on fumes from ‘previous times’. The staff are not super helpful to the level you would expect from a 5* hotel. WiFi wasn’t working, some small details like breakfast menu in the room missing. Breakfast is not great, especially compared to other Venice hotels we stayed in (even 3 or 4 stars). For the price of the hotel I would say it’s not the best.

Disappointing

The breakfast and and the front terrace.

This is shouldn’t be rated a 5 star, the room was smelly, we had no water, no soaps and shower gel was refilled from previous guests,

The most beautiful stay in Venice!

Our stay at this super cute, historic hotel was absolutely wonderful, thanks to the exceptional customer service from the entire staff. We were visiting for our honeymoon and had simply requested a room with a window if one happened to be available — and to our surprise, they upgraded us to a spectacular room overlooking the Grand Canal at no extra cost. They also kindly allowed us to use the hotel for an indoor photo session, which made our trip even more special. The breakfast was excellent every morning, with truly superb service, and the best coffee I had in Venice was served there. On our last day, they even welcomed us in before official breakfast hours because we had an early flight to the airport. Thank you all for making our stay so memorable and special. We would gladly return!

High quality stay!

From interior design to overall service, everything was 10/10. The location of the hotel is great and walk distance to most important attractions. Plus, the bed and room are big that offer perfect space. The hotels terrace is impeccable. The member staffs are warm and welcoming and professional.

There isn’t anything I didn’t like. The only thing I would want it to have a gym, but this is more of a personal choice.

A fabulous 4 day break. 100% recommend. Will definitely return there!

The staff were all so professional, friendly and informative. Difficult to single anyone out as they were all excellent. The Presidential Suite we stayed in was absolutely amazing with stunning views of the Grand Canal. The terrace for drinks & dinner was a perfect spot. The Music Room/Ballroom off of the breakfast room with music playing each morning was a beautiful relaxing ambiance. Great position for water taxis to & from places, & also near to public transport. The gondola ‘ferry’ next to the hotel across to the Rialto Market for €2 was so useful!

There was nothing we didn’t like! Breakfast was great but potentially not as comprehensive choice as befitted the property, but no complaints. Staff were fantastic.

I feel hurt and overcharged

Location and general look of the hotel

We stayed in Ca’Sagredo hotel in room 405 from 19Jun2025 till 22Jun2025. Please consider this email message as a complaint about housekeeping service. We complained twice during our stay about black mold on the tiles around the bath tub and no action has been made. It’s not acceptable for the 5 star hotel to show inglorious attitude towards their guests.

Nice hotel in a great location but the staff really let the experience down

I liked how big the rooms were.

The staff gave no information about the hotel. They all come across like they aren’t interested in being there. They told me nothing about breakfast times, the WiFi, where things were in the hotel, what it had to offer

Disappointing

It really looks like a Venetian palace. The suite was beautiful and spacious.

I doesn't really feel like a palace. There is no way to make coffee in the room, and room service doesn't start until 8:00, so every morning at 7:00 I had to leave the hotel in search for coffee. And another important thing- if you charge €800 per night and you advertise that you have a fitness center, you should actually have one!

Pleasant

I like that its near to everything. Also, I like the interior.

I didn't like how housekeeping talked to me. Also, its weird that I put do not disturb and they access the room!! Three times they access while I'm in the room, and once I'm not in the room and they clean the garbage only, this all is while putting do not disturb sign!!! After that I talked to the reception and they inform them.

Magical winter break.

The Ca Sagredo is a beautiful old Venetian palace. We had one of their more modest rooms, but it was elegant, clean and well appointed, and the view over the Grand Canal was fabulous. The buffet breakfast was excellent and the meal we ate in the restaurant was pricey, but delicious. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is conveniently situated near the Ca D'Oro vaparetto stop.

We stayed at Ca' Sagredo Hotel as we wanted to take pictures in the hotel for our prewedding photoshoot, which was complimentary for hotel guests. The interior of the hotel was beautiful like a museum. Our room was on the 4th floor with our own terrace overlooking the river, which was absolutely amazing and beautiful! I would definitely stay here again next time I'm in Venice!

Nice hotel with friendly staff but not sure if the hotel deserved 5 stars.

Fabulous

Great place for attractive wedding photos - we chose Ca' Sagredo for our wedding in Venice because of its stunning spaces on the staircase to the Noble floor and beautifully decorated rooms, made for wedding photography. There are probably not many better hotels for these purposes in Venice, if any. As for accommodation, the hotel offers decent comfort with a pleasant view of the Grand Canal and a nice neighborhood with restaurants and bistros on Strada Nova. We must appreciate the kind and helpful staff who helped us even with our more complicated requirements regarding our wedding. After returning from the wedding ceremony and taking photos, a bottle of Prosecco and congratulations from the hotel staff on our wedding awaited us in our room. It was very nice of them, we thank all the hotel employees very much.

A slight disappointment for us was the breakfast offer, in other 5* hotels in Venice we experienced a richer breakfast offer. The breakfast here did not match its price. We were not comfortable that 15 minutes before the end of the breakfast time, the staff warned us that the breakfast would end soon, especially when the staff must have seen that we were almost done. We had a far better breakfast at Bar ai Cervi, a few steps from Ca`Sagredo on Strada Nova, they have fantastic espresso and croissants.

Beautiful palace stay on the Grand Canal

This is the 2nd time we stayed here and the place is Gold! Room, location, staff, food, excellent. Right next to vaporetto station. Private dock in front. Chose water taxi pick up from airport. Later took water taxi to end of island Santa Elana. On departure we took vaporetto to mainland to pick up our rental car, like 3 stops very easy. Cocktails, lunch and dinner outstanding. Breakfast is over the top in a palace library room with frescoes. Highly recommend.

I wish the rooftop bar was open. But they will bring drinks up from the bar to the rooftop sitting area. Wish there were more seats for dinner. If your making a last minute choice of the restaurant chances are you can't get in; every night sold out.

Perfectly located - wish I could have stayed longer!

The room was very comfortable (bed/pillows) and the bathroom was well appointed with the usual toiletries (shampoo, shower gel etc), plus some additional (razor, toothbrush, shoe sponge). Was nice to have slippers. Excellent air con.

I found it odd - especially on such a sweltering day - that there was no complimentary bottled water in the room. Certainly, cheaper hotels offer this so it was disappointing not to see this from Ca’ Sagredo. It was also odd to have breakfast service start so late - 8am. This is no good for those with early flights or for eager tourists who want to get a head start on the morning rush. Thankfully, I only discovered the late start after I had gone down at 7.30, to find the lovely staff happy to accommodate me early. Another couple came down not realising the late start and where also accommodated, but I would strongly recommend the hotel look at an earlier start to their breakfast service to avoid dissatisfaction of future guests.

Beautiful historical hotel in a nice area of Venice.

Big room, very clean, nice and friendly staff. Air conditioning was also a huge plus considering the heat in the periods we stayed there.

It was a bit pricy, but also understandable considering it’s in Venice.
