Hotel Ocho, Toronto

195 Spadina Ave, Toronto, ON M5T 2C3, Canada (show on map)

Hotel Ocho in Toronto is a fantastic example of adaptive reuse, housed in a century-old textile factory that dates back to 1902. In 2012, this industrial space on Spadina Avenue was meticulously transformed into a boutique hotel while keeping its original brick-and-beam charm intact. The design, helmed by the firm Dialogue 38, pairs that raw, historic structure with sleek, modern furnishings to create a unique aesthetic.

With only a small collection of rooms, the hotel offers an intimate and private feel that’s rare for such a central location. The interior design leans into the building’s heritage, featuring high ceilings and sun-drenched spaces that overlook the bustling streets of Chinatown. It’s also well-known locally for its onsite restaurant and event space, which frequently serves as an industrial-chic backdrop for weddings and curated gatherings.

Location-wise, you couldn’t ask for a more convenient spot. Situated in the heart of Downtown West, the hotel is just a short walk from the vibrant Kensington Market and the eclectic food stalls of Chinatown. You are also within easy reach of the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) and the city’s major entertainment venues.

Whether you’re in town for the arts scene or just looking to explore Toronto’s diverse neighborhoods, the hotel serves as a perfect home base. Its position along major streetcar lines makes navigating the city effortless, putting the iconic CN Tower and the waterfront area just a quick ride away.

Would stay here again.

Given how expensive Toronto can be, this hotel is a great find. It’s relatively affordable, clean, and in an excellent location. I have no complaints at all and would stay here again.

This place is a TOTAL GEM! I immediately messaged several friends to suggest staying here for a group family weekend. Th

The whole building was charming and full of warm character. The restaurant is reasonable in price and excellent in quality. The staff are very helpful.

The bathroom lighting was not great. All lighting throughout was a bit odd. No coffee machine.

A cozy retreat in the heart of Spadina!

Very friendly and accommodating staff! Small issue that was resolved quickly and they were gracious, leaving us a small token of apologies.

Lack of security on the premise for parking overnight, though, the parking area with security patrolling was not far from the building.

Good option for stay in Toronto

No complaints about my stay. The room was simple but clean and the bathroom was very spacious. The ladies in the reception were super nice and helpful. Plenty of restaurants around, and a streetcar stop nearby. They also stored my luggage after checkout for a couple of hours.

The lock in the door was a bit loose/worn out. It locked safely, but I had to double triple check if it's properly latched - needs a bit of maintenance.

Highly recommended. Nifty place.

I got an upgrade to the DeLuxe suite. What a nifty place! Loved the room layout with the unique bathroom and the wonderful soaker tub. Bed was very comfortable. Loved all the windows. The stuff was super nice. Great location. Unique boutique hotel. Fantastic value for money.

The heating was super loud. The stairs to the lobby were a bit of a bother. The lighting wasn't great.

Reasonably priced for a room in the city. Perfect for seeing the show at the Horseshoe just around the corner.

Location was great for the plans we had that evening. Staff were very welcoming. Price was very reasonable for staying downtown. Would stay again.

But of a different smell in the hallway and room. Not terrible but not great either. May have been cleaning products? Rooms were not super sound proof and could hear others through walls or vent.

Decent price, great service, great location. Room layout strange. More positive than negative though

I had a very positive experience at Hotel Ocho, largely thanks to their excellent customer service. I encountered a small issue with my room when I first checked in, and the staff addressed and resolved it promptly and professionally.

The location is also very good being very close to transit and within walking distance of many great amenities, which made exploring the city easy.

The bathroom was a comfortable size, and I really appreciated having a proper desk and chair to work at.

The layout of the room itself was a bit unusual. The room was a long, narrow rectangle with the bed placed in the very middle, which made it awkward to navigate and find a good spot for my luggage. I also noticed one of the towels had a faint stain on it. A minor but notable detail.

A couple of things to be aware of: the hotel doesn't offer breakfast, and there wasn't any information in the room on how to contact the front desk. I needed to call them at one point and had to go out of my way to ask for the number.

A very good experience!

The staff was exceptionally nice and helpful. We dined in at the restaurant two nights, and the food was very good (pizza was excellent). It was a nice, affordable boutique hotel in a fabulous location.

It would have been nice to have an in-room coffeemaker. Otherwise, no complaints about the facilities.

Nice but not again.

The location was great, pay parking, clean towel and bedsheet. Walking distance from major attractions. Restaurants are nearby. They provide luggage storage facilities which was great. Staff was ok.

This is not a family hotel, and not soundproof at all as it was very uncomfortable to hear a woman moaning for an hour next door. For the amount per night at least a breakfast would have good. No door in bathroom you pee and poop openly. Naked woman picture on wall. The room smell weird. Ventilation is lourd. Not enough lights.

Comfortable basic and friendly accomodation.

Receptionist was very helpful. The hotel has no parking but due to my wife's disability, she went out of her way to find a parking spot right next to the entrance.

The hotel is in a poorly lighted part of town and I had to track it down to find it. More prominent and lighted signage would help. Also the air conditioning in the room was rather noisy.

Great location and value - friendly staff. Hidden gem.

It’s easy, great location, friendly staff. Rooms are good - I would say it’s a 3 star. But the value is excellent - it’s definitely clean. A bit tired but you get what you pay for. And the staff and location cannot be beat.

There is a bit of a damp/musty smell to the rooms. Apart from that it’s a great hotel.

Lovely convenient spot in a nice area.

Location was good. Property and room very modern feel. Bathroom was stunning as long as you’re happy with an open plan arrangement. And no door for the toilet area. We had a maintenance issue with the shower which was resolved super quick . Staff were very friendly

Decor was a bit tired especially the carpets and furniture had seen better days.

Cool and comfortable. Happy for AC in a nice room for a decent price in summertime Toronto.

The older style hotel was cool. I felt like I was in a bespoke room (had received an upgrade). Location was decent but I was a 15 minute walk from work. It wasn't ideal but the walk was nice (along the school street especially). Bar has ample options. I only tried the hummous for food, which was ok.

The morning coffee was disgusting. I tried it 2 mornings just to be sure it wasn't me. It was undrinkable. I like strong coffee but this was like tar. I didn't say anything. A nice coffee shop was 1 minute walk away. I suspect a lot of coffee is tossed out every day.

Great location abr good value for money

It’s very central and easy to get around. Its got a cool artsy feel and honestly really good value for money

There was an annoying noise during the evening like the AC’s in other rooms, so think the wall might be a little thin

A pleasant experience

I enjoyed how modern the property was. The bathroom design and layout was exceptional. The room was pretty clean. We enjoyed the idea of the desk behind that the bed.

The only thing that I would change is to remove some of the markings from the baseboards and our bed did not have a top sheet

Adequate lodging in a great location

The staff at Hotel Ocho was, without exception, fantastic! I felt looked after and cared for the whole time. I give the staff top ratings! They even held my suitcase after I checked out.

This place is pretty good, and in a great location! Just know that, aside from the staff, the overall vibe is of a budget hotel (in spite of the price). As long as you have that expectation, you will (like me) have a fine time here. In terms of specific suggestions: (1) If the wifi is down, consider offering guests a drink, a meal, or something else acknowledge the inconvenience (which was significant for me, since this was a business trip). (2) Consider adding dresser, armoire, nightstands, and a kettle/coffeemaker to make the room more livable, especially for longer stays. (3) Consider adding overhead lighting (I know there was an offer to bring more lamps to the room, but overhead would be preferable). (4) In general, it feels like everything could use, metaphorically, a fresh coat of paint to make it feel a bit more modern and cozy. As it is, the property feels well-worn.
