The Arctic Club Hotel, Seattle

700 3rd Avenue, Seattle Central Business District, Seattle, WA 98104, United States of America (show on map)

Expert reviews

Fodors review:

“This meticulously kept hotel just steps from historic Pioneer Square exudes charm and character. The handsome nine-story Beaux-Arts building, famous for the terracotta walrus heads that line its third floor, was originally commissioned in 1916 as an HQ for The Arctic Club.”

Featured as Fodor’s Choice in Seattle.

Frommers review:

“Back in 1917 rooms were roomy and forthright, with beamed ceilings, wood baseboards and crown moldings, and beds were big and solid and covered with woolen blankets. That’s how it is today, too, only with updated amenities of all kinds and furniture that evokes the Art Deco era when the club was in its heyday.”

Featured as Frommer’s Exceptional Choice in Seattle.

Nice hotel, nice stay but not comfortable to walk around hotel area due to homeless addicted population right outside.

Nice hotel, good atmosphere, clean room, nice room, professional staff

Not the hotel’s fault but its located in area where there are many unhoused addicted people using in open air.

Nice building, avoid some of the environs, better suited to couples than familes

Building is quite historical, and rooms/bathrooms are reflective of that. Bar / lobby area look popular. Probably better for couples than families. Breakfast included as standard and was good quality.

The only "family" room option was a corner room with double bed and sofa bed. We were only there overnight so not a big deal, but not really suited for a family to be in one room, very cramped when sofa bed is out, and the double bed wasn't that comfortable. Location is OK to walk to harbour, 10 mins or so, but the next block along has a lot of rough sleepers.

Comfy bed and pillows. Close to Stadium for the event we went to. Train station just down the road.

Breakfast was basic. Comfy pillows. Train station and habour close by, an easy walk.

Needs a bit of a upgrade. All the druggie homeless people on the road near the hotel we had to walk past.

Comfortable room with helpful staff.

I liked the room which was big and quiet with a comfy bed and good coffee maker. The shared lounge areas etc also had old worldly charm. Helpful staff.

The bathroom lighting was unusual and controlled some of the bedroom lighting. I couldn't find a fridge which I needed for milk that I'd bought.

Hotel is beautiful and the room was so big and the bed was comfortable, bathroom was beautiful!

Happy hour was not good 2 beers cost $28.00 with a tip which we shouldn’t have paid as the bartender was very unfriendly. He definitely had his “Favorite” regulars!

This is lovely, comfortable hotel with friendly and accommodating staff.

Historic building with early 20thC explorer vibe. Beautiful lobby and bar with dark wood and fireplace makes you want to settle in and read the latest news about polar explorations and gold discoveries. Wonderful breakfasts.

Neighborhood is not exactly vibrant. There are a significant number of people living on the streets in downtown Seattle, including near the hotel. But this is all over downtown Seattle.

The breakfast was okay, and the old building was renovated to make it look nice, which was a nice experience.

While renovating an old building, the lamp switch next to the bed in the room broke, so one day I called a staff member for help, and the next day I had no choice but to sleep with all the light bulbs removed.

Our room was adequate, the food was good, getting in and out was not so good.

While thisis a historic property, with excellent preservation and care to the rooms, it disappointed in the lack of a bell hop to help with the luggage. it is also not a suitable hotel for disable travelers. The main entrance is not useable for handicapped people having narrow and multiple steps exceeding well over 50 of them. More importantly, the street that is accessible handicapped guest can not be used by tis or private vehicles because it is restricted to city buses.

better access for ingress and egress of handicap guests.

The staff were nice. The food and drinks selection at the Bar was good. Breakfast choice was good and food regularly restocked. Free coffee and tea refills too.

Rooms were dark need brighter lighting. The fridge was very noisy couldn't sleep. Maintenance guy unlocked the cabinet to turn off but it still came on. We had to unplug it as it was so loud. The net curtains looked dirty and the room had a musty smell. Had to carry suitcases up the steps at entrance to hotel luckily staff rushed down to help us. Furniture looked tired and dirty. Carpet in llifts is very tired worn and dirty looking

Loved the historical room and hotel restaurant.

The historic building is beautiful. Security in the hotel was great too. Had to use your room key to make the elevator work. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Bar staff were knowledgeable and gave wonderful service. Breakfast was delicious too!

It was loud from the street below. Fire truck and ambulance sirens being on a good bit of the night. Not hotels fault so I suggest bringing a noise maker.

The breakfast buffet is one of the best I have had. Very good quality fruit and the accommodations were great!

Beautiful Hotel with History.

The hotel is beautiful, with deep history, and has been restored with love and care to respect its history. We liked the hotel and staff very much, and will most likely return on our next visit to Seattle.

When booking, if you are a light sleeper, ask for a room that is more quiet than some of the rooms. It is in the middle of a very busy city, so noise is expected.

What an amazing place to stay (or even just visit for cocktails!) - it's like walking into a piece of living history but without losing any of the conveniences of modern life! The staff were superb from the security guard who helped us in with our bags to the staff on reception being topped only by the bar staff who were simply amazing!

Fun historic hotel, well priced, nice staff!

Very cool historic hotel with lots of fun details and friendly staff. Free breakfast was a nice bonus! Spacious, comfortable rooms.

It's not the hotel's fault, but there are lots of homeless people on the street, and lots of late night sirens from the police station a block away. Also kind of a bummer to view the trash filled vacant lot across the street.

Overall, minus breakfast, I loved my stay and would go back again.

Loved the feel of the hotel, it was so charming and the rooms were a lot bigger than I expected! Staff was friendly and kind. Loved the bar area with the pool table.

The only thing that was a real disappointment was the breakfast. Honestly... it was depressing. It didn't match the feel of the rest of the hotel at all. The food was average but the ambiance... was terrible. I wish it was located somewhere else. It needs a remodel for sure.

Historic hotel with friendly staff

It's a charming historic hotel. The beds are very comfortable and the breakfast is actually delicious, which is rare. The front desk also accommodated an especially late checkout for me, which was extremely helpful.

The location is convenient for the train station, but too far for the convention center. At night, the surrounding area also feels a bit dangerous and I was hesitant to walk alone. Also, the American practice of hiding all sorts of hidden fees and taxes is infuriating. Each night as this hotel will be at least 30% more expensive than advertised, which feels deceptive. Booking.com should include all the relevant costs upfront!

Very cool boutique hotel

The room was designed to period, reflecting it's original occupants...a bunch of wealthy gold rush barons. The breakfast we hot and quite good.

It is right across the street from a homeless shelter which does impact the feel of the surroundings when you walk out on the street.

The one issue I have was the room. It was really cold. It had no heating system. That would've come in handy given the fact that it was a cold weekend.

Beautifully restored hotel. Quiet and comfortable

Very good

Location. Nice gym. Good size rooms. Large bathroom.

Extra fees are ridiculous and add up some 30% to the cost. The fees are for amenitities that should normaly be included in the room rate e.g. gym, breakfast , as it was explained to me. Food selection for breakfast is basic - scrambled eggs, potatoes, sausages. Yogurts. Pastry was very good though. But plenty of space for breakfast and all clean.

Stay at your own risk.

The Staff was friendly. History of the property was interesting.

A lot of homeless panhandlers near the entrance. to the hotel. My wife needed to bang on the door to have a security person let her in to the hotel. Needed to use valet parking that was very expensive $63.00 per day. Street parking and no other parking available.
