Beautiful art deco style with great location. Pretty lounge area and styled bar and restaurant. Everything was very tasteful while interesting decor giving comfort while in between events.

Walls are thin between rooms, but hallways are quiet.

The hotel is beautiful, rooms were spacious and clean, the restaurant and bar is also really nice. It’s just outside of the tenderloin area so it felt safe. Good value for money. Would highly recommend, will definitely be staying here again!

What a beautiful old building, loads of character & charm, the lobby was stunning, rooms are cosy but to be expected in an old building, staff were great, in particular the tall porter wearing the top hat was lovely ( sorry didn’t catch his name ), beds were so comfortable, great location with tram stop right outside, wonderful stay!!

There was coffee facilities in the room but nothing to make a cup of tea, that was disappointing, parking price seemed excessive compared to what we saw around town at other hotels.

(guest services did bring one up-not oversized, but it worked as it gave us a place to set the second suitcase Luggage rack-one supplied was a little broken (mostly usable) Hooks for clothes-haven't found a hotel yet that supplies enough hooks for clothes/towels. Only 1 in bathroom and one in the giant closet

The property was clean & I loved the decor. The front desk staff were friendly & the bartenders at the restaurant were amazing. The hotel is in a great location & multiple restaurants, convenience & retail stores, & even my child’s college dorm, etc. are within walking distance. I also like that elevator access requires scanning your room key. An added layer of security is always a plus for me.

The rooms were a tad bit smaller than expected & upon check-in, I noticed a housekeeping issue in my room. The gentleman at front desk & the manager addressed the issue quickly & I was moved to a different room & provided free drink vouchers. The fridge in my new room was not plugged in & had an odor. I just refrained from using it. I also wasn’t emailed a receipt (as stated by a rep over the phone) after checking out. Not sure if that is because I booked through Booking.com.

• We were there for a birthday celebration and the hotel staff really made it special! • Staff all the way around were very friendly, professional and super helpful.

• Bed mattresses aren’t great. We’ve had worse but mushy pillow tops are not comfortable nor good for your spine. • Shower got the bathroom floor really wet — not a great design.

When I arrived there was trash in the trash bins and one day they didn't clean the room at all and on the remaining days they put the bed pillows on the floor.

There was nothing on the menu I could eat and they didn’t offer to make any alternatives. Disappoiting !

The design of the hotel is very elevated and elegant. In general the location is very convenient - easily walkable to many places, close to BART train to/from the airport. I als loved the placement of the toilet paper in the bathroom 😃 literally the only hotel I’ve ever been to that does not force me to make weird turns on the toilet to get the paper.

Not sure if we were just unlucky with the room we got, but it definitely needed a renovation. I would say that hotel did not provide the value for money… in the bathroom the electric plug was literally falling off, the shower has a design that all the water essentially goes out to the rest of the bathroom and you can’t even decrease the strength of water. In the room the walls were all crooked and looked like they should have been renovated a long time ago. Door were bad quality and you could literally see the 100 layers of paint just dripping off of it and they were not insulated in any way, so when anyone was talking on the corridor it felt like they are with us in a room. Also in many corners of the room and the bathroom I could see layers of dust that imo should not be there…

- Beautiful landmark historic hotel - Hotel staff excellent and helpful - Amazing central location with lots of amenities nearby. Felt totally safe to walk around (a worry of mine before arriving in SF). So easy / fast to get anywhere in SF by public transport or taxi - Starlite bar on the rooftop was a hotspot and had excellent cocktails and service - Very good value for what you get

- The Post Room (the downstairs bar and restaurant) was not a nice experience

The lobby is really amazing, and the new decor of the rooms is really nice. Location is really incredible. The food from the restaurant downstairs is also great (but not cheap). The staff was really wonderful

The bathroom has a sliding door, that when closed It was almost as if it was open. It wasn't comfortable. There was room for improvement in the cleanliness (most of the room was perfectly clean, but if you look beneath the sink, there was old dust).

We loved our stay here! Great central location hotel in union square, with most transport options very close including the cable car. Every member of staff we met was super helpful. Our room was very well set up & a great size for our stay - bed super comfy too!

I truly enjoyed my stay there. I was celebrating 25 years of marriage with my beautiful wife. As teenagers we would go there and say,(at the time it was the sir Francis drake)"one day we will stay here". And we fulfilled that this past weekend. We are both native to San Francisco. Our experience was great from the time we checked in to the time we checked out. We will definitely be doing this again. It was nice to tour the city we grew up in as tourists. The rooms were very comfortable, and clean. The staff was very friendly and pleasant. The location is in the heart of union square which makes everything so close to walk or Uber around. Thank you!

Hoterl has a great Vibe, The POST room resturant and access to the Starlite room make the hotel perfect for a stay in downtown SF. Staff at these venues were exceptional. The decoration of the rooms and common areas is exceptional - eclectic and welcoming with a touch of lux.

Had one interaction with reception staff member who was very unhelpful, almost obstructive. I would elevate to guest services next time, which is what I did by phone, and had my upcoming re-vist booking sorted. Bathrooms could do with a better clean/grout in shower a bit discolored, toilet ran a couple of times - easy fix if you know how. Hallway carpet on Level 5 leading to rooms had stains - seems like an easy solve, and hard to miss.

The location is perfect for a stay in the city. The rooms are spacious and clean. The staff is very welcoming.

We stay there every year because it’s a beautiful place in the location is absolutely ideal. Adorable, comfortable rooms & staff is always great!

The valet parking has gotten almost unaffordable, has went up nearly double in the last few years. Also got four hot teas and two very small desserts to go at the restaurant and it was the most overpriced place we have eaten in San Francisco. Especially for the quality. I was so disappointed in that. Being able to look right in the bathroom with the door closed is another downfall.

I appreciate the interior design of the hotel and it was a nicely decorated cozy little room that we stayed in. The window was wide to light a great amount of natural light coming through. TV works well and the desk inside the room is very functional.

Since it was an older building, you can expect to hear noises from your neighbor rooms and from the hall way. The standard room was on the smaller side, especially its tiny bathroom (can fit up to one person at a time and there is no room for your change of clothes or storage for your toiletries). It wasn’t the most comfortable bathroom to be in when the shower was only half enclosed and the bathroom sliding door doesn’t close properly. The lack of ventilation can make the entire hotel room feel humid after each shower. My least favorite part about this hotel is that no matter you are sitting in the lobby or standing in front of the hotel waiting for your ride, you can always expect to smell cigarettes. I think it has something to do with the fact that entrance doors stay open throughout the day and the hotel not having a rule set in place for designated smoking area to prevent the smell from traveling into the lobby.
