Hotel Z Staypineapple, San Diego

This hotel is in the perfect location for walking or riding a bike (free from the hotel). The staff was amazing! They gave helpful suggestions on places to visit and where to eat. The complementary beer/beverage and cookies were definitely a bonus.

Staff was excellent and location was perfect for exploring Gaslamp District. Hotel had unexpected extras which made it a joy to stay at.

Staff- smooth check-in process with Jan and check-out process with Alan. Staff in general were very accommodating and friendly. Loved the water and coffee bar.

The hotel had no parking place on its own- so we had to look for parking around the area everytime. It was lucky that we were able to park right across or very near the hotel a couple of times. The location of the hotel was great though, very convenient.

I love the complementary drink/beer the hotel includes in the stay! As well as the free bike rental

It looked less grand than the stay pineapple San Francisco so I was a bit disappointed when I entered the hotel

EVERYTHING was great, they really pamper their guests at this hotel. There are about five spaces in front that are free parking. Everything is walking distance from this location.

location was central in the gaslamp, the room and bed were great, and loved the amenities - especially the complimentary beverages (including beer!) and take home water bottle for our stay. staff was friendly and helpful.

didn't like that there wasn't specific mention of the location not having parking, so we had to search for parking in the surrounding area the night during our stay. also i called an hour before check-in to ask if early check-in was avail and they confirmed, only to find out they added a $46 charge for early check-in.

The staff is very friendly and helpful. Everyone who we interacted with ensured that we had our questions answered. The property is very clean.

Air quality in room not great. High humidity and smell a little like dog … and we are dog lovers and love that dogs are welcome!

The location was wonderful, the free drinks and sparkling water. The beds were comfortable as well.

I didn’t like that they did not have parking with the hotel and that wasn’t listed until after you booked the hotel. That should have been clear from the beginning.

Staff was amazing. Got early check. Room was soo cute and the drink vouchers were lovely! Clean! I love that it’s dog friendly and will def go back with our fur baby! Whatever those blankets were they were so cozy.

We didn’t have a fridge in room. Also, room was kinda small but overall this place is great!

theme was fun for the hotel. It was memorable compared to other chain hotels. I liked the bright yellow throughout the hotel and the pictures on the hotel room doors were fun.

No views from the windows, but I like that the room had windows with natural light even if there wasn't a nice view.

It was decorative. Bright colors and cute dog statues and pictures. Very clean and attractive. The comforters on the bed were the best!

Love the convenience to everything.

Coffee in lobby was never fresh in the mornings.

The hotel was wonderful and I enjoyed my stay. Very comfortable bed / bedding. Staff was excellent to deal with. Location to Petco Park and restaurants is great. Love that they have a water filling station in the lobby to refill reusable water bottles and even get hot water for coffee and tea.

I just wish they had a gym on site.

Boy, the Gaslamp has changed in the last 15-20 years. A lot of homelessness.

We stayed here for Comic-Con. Our room was great, and the staff was really helpful.

Unfortunately, when we tried to book the same hotel for next year, they had doubled the room rate. So not cool. Next year we will be staying somewhere else.

It is walking distance to Petco. Lots of restaurants and bars surrounding the hotel, expect some noise at night. The room we had, the noise was very minimal. And honestly, the bed is so magical- you’ll fall asleep with no problem. The look and feel of the hotel is warm and inviting. The rooms are a good size. The bathrooms are big. The streaming option was a very cool feature and the free items were nice.

The only thing I will say that really bothered me. The first time getting into the elevator to go up to our room- a labradoodle came out and tried to attack me. The lady holding the dog did not have control over the dog where a mad had to grab the dog from keeping him from biting me. Dogs should be vetted better at the hotel for guests safety. I was not traveling with a pet and was very uncomfortable after that situation but had already paid for our room so we stayed

The location was perfect since we were to Petco Park. The price was reasonable for its location. The staff was very helpful, especially Alan. The room was comfortable and we were provided with everything we needed.

We were lucky to find street parking because it's so expensive to park downtown.

They went above and beyond with their amenities. I feel like these days, hotels are offering less and less to get their room rates lower which I understand. For the rate I paid, I was pleasantly surprised by how accommodating they were.

It doesn’t have its own parking lot. Had to pay $20 for overnight parking the block over. I think that’s very common in downtown areas though.

The location was excellent, close to the San Diego Convention Center and restaurants.

The staff were very customer service driven. Everyone was nice. A special shout out to Adrianna!! She is wonderful.

It was more than I wanted to spend. Also, it would be helpful to have low profile dressers in the rooms. Two drawers is not enough for 2+ guests.

I loved everything about my stay and had no complaints

The location is a very short walk from the convention centre, which was very convenient for my work. In addition, being in the Gaslamp area meant that there were plenty of restaurants and cafés nearby as well, and a good atmosphere. The room was clean and comfortable, with tea/coffee making facilities, and I appreciated the water bar in the lobby, as well as the availability of drinks and snacks. The pineapple cookies were excellent!

My room faced an inner courtyard, so was somewhat dark, but as I was out most of the day, this was a relatively minor issue.

We booked the hotel mainly based on location and price and were presently surprised at how nice it is. The room was spacious with a very comfortable bed, and the price for the location and quality of hotel was great. The hotel "theme" is a little different, but we really grew to love it, will look for Staypineapples in other cities.

I liked (1) the decor; (2) cleanliness of the room; (3) beautiful setup of the room; (4) air conditioning; (5) the thermostat with the option for just air (not air conditioning) low or just high or automatic; (6) the body lotion in the bathroom; (7) the coffee setup; (8) being so close to everything in the GasLamp District! (9) only a 10 minute walk to the convention center.

In Room 106, the (1) TV worked well but probably needed to be replaced since it had big white dots that looked like the sun was on a person's face. It wasn't really bad, though, just slightly annoying; (2) there was no iron and ironing board since I was there for a conference but I asked for one and within a few minutes, they appeared! Very responsive. TYSM! (3) I was on the first floor and I could see there was somewhat of an alleyway outside of my room so I closed the double blind and was fine.

The staff were so friendly and helpful. The welcome drink, pineapple shaped cookies, painted doors, cycle loan, refillable water bottles, all added to the superb quirkiness of the excellent hotel. It was very clean. The bed was large and very comfortable with fabulous duvets. Good quality toiletries and towels. We would definitely stay again and most certainly recommend.

Nothing to dislike!

The location was perfect. Loved the bike option to roam around. Even thought we didn’t bring our pets, next time we will bring them. I love how they make pets feel welcomed.

Really enjoyed the stay – the room had a comfortable bed, good blackout blinds, and a stylish thematic decor. Appreciated the couple of complimentary drinks and the option to rent bikes on-site. Would recommend!

Note on parking: It would be a nice touch to offer guests a discount or validation for nearby parking structures. I understand it’s common in downtown areas to have separate parking fees, but a small perk here would go a long way.

Luckily I was allocated a room that did not face the street, so it was quite quiet. I travelled for a conference and stayed 5 nights in the hotel. The bed and pillows were comfortable, the room was a good size, the location near the Convention Center was very convenient.

Possibly the shower, it was very narrow and you had to be careful not to hit the door.

Fantastic location. Rooms are very clean and comfortable. Welcome drink and afternoon coffee and cookies are a nice touch. Bikes available to use, it’s a nice cycle ride via ferry crossing to Coronado beach.

No parking, but it’s not a problem as there are parking lots near by (you can reserve a space and book online in advance - some have a no returns policy so you need to leave car there for duration of the stay however that wasn’t a problem for us as city was easy to get around without needing to drive. You definitely need to book parking in advance if there is a home baseball game on, we ended up using 707 Broadway as the ones nearer hotel were fully booked but it was good value for money, secure, and only a short walk from hotel. There is a space to park outside hotel to drop off/collect luggage so you can do that first before going to parking lot).

Great location! Rooms are great - well proportioned, nice decor and extremely comfortable beds / bed linen. Staff really friendly and welcoming! Loved the free welcome drinks coupons too. Plus 12PM checkout is great
