The hotel is in a perfect location and I loved being so close to the water .I was pleasantly surprised at the modern bathroom as some of the reviews were disappointed by them .The room was lovely and the bed comfy .There was noise outside but the singers stopped early in the evening .The staff were lovely .I would say that the breakfast was the area that could have been improved .I know it was exceptionally busy but I have been to other hotels where it’s been slicker .The hot food was just warm and even the food ordered was tepid .There was no system to get a coffee or a specific person to request the breakfast from . All could be remedied so I would not fault the staff who all tried their best .A fabulous break away

A very welcoming staff at the front desk and in the breakfast room. The breakfast is amazing, catering to everybody’s tastes. You can be ‘healthy’ or indulge in decadent delicious sweets. So much to choose from.

The only slight criticism is that the restaurant (Rib) is quite pricey.

Highly recommend this hotel! Everything was great — from the charming location in the heart of Porto to the delicious breakfast. The staff were welcoming and helpful, especially during check-in and while assisting us with our luggage.

Unfortunately, we were there during a heavy storm, which wasn’t ideal — just bad timing. Also, since the hotel doesn’t have direct car access, it would be helpful if the staff pre-arranged access or support for drop-off and pick-up to make luggage handling smoother.

Location, staff, breakfast, bed were all great. When we arrived, were were offered an "upgrade" to a superior room which had an amazing view of the Luis I bridge (see photo). Francesca the guest manager was very helpful.

We booked a "superior" room. However, the upgraded room we were given had a substandard, dated shower (see photo). The tiny shower head didn't offer much more than a trickle which went hot and cold as it wasn't thermostatic. After the first morning we asked to be moved and all they showed us was another much smaller room with the same bathroom fitments - so we stayed where we were. We notice that pictures on the Pestana Vintage web site show that "superior" rooms have really good, smart, walk in showers (see the photo). We also met some other guests who said that their showers were really very good. We feel we were fobbed off when we asked to be moved. It seems that there was no real intention to offer us a room with a better shower. Maybe there's another explanation, but this is not the way I would expect a hotel of the caliber of the Pestana to treat its guests. To sum up we feel we were upgraded to an "inferior" room.

The location was excellent with a wonderful view from our bedroom. The staff were very helpful and welcoming on our arrival. We arrived early and were delighted that the hotel could accommodate this.

The steps down from the bedroom to the en-suite bathroom which we didn't know about before booking and so had to leave a light on in the bathroom to make sure we were safe during the night in case we needed to use the bathroom. The shower had no thermostatic control and at one point got excessively hot which was reported as we were concerned this was a health and safety risk. Although someone apparently looked at it, it happened again. The food at the restaurant on our first night was cold (steak and fries), it would help to serve on heated plates and to manage the service so it arrives to the table hot. Similarly, the breakfast hot buffet was not hot.

We loved that we were able to check in early and were also given an upgrade to a Riverview room. The checkin service was excellent. The buffet breakfast had so much variety and the dining room had a calm ambience. The experience of sitting on the terrace looking across the river was delightful. The location enabled us to easily reach many of the places we wanted to explore.

The staff is AMAZING. Friendly and very helpful. The location is amazing, right on the water near the tavernas, etc. The people made our stay, and for that reason I would recommend it to a friend.

The hotel rooms feel a little worn. They were gracious to change our room to a more updated one but for a 5 star, they need just a bit more updating.

The windows of my bedroom looked out onto a pedestrian walkway, and passers-by sometimes peered into the room.

Everyone at the hotel was really friendly and accommodating! I want to especially call out Hugo, who worked at the breakfast buffet the morning we left. We were in a rush to catch and train and Hugo was amazing - he quickly got us to-go containers and helped us put together an amazing meal for the train. His quick actions and helpful nature was a stand out of the hotel and the experience.

The Location was amazing, this could not have been beaten especially as we had a balcony room at the front of the hotel overlooking the famous view.. Breakfast was amazing all you could eat with a wide range of food choices.. Pestano 50 year book gave great explanation of the growth of this family run business and its growth intp Porto.. some staff were exemplary in there assistance. Plenty to do in the area ,need at least 4 days stay to see things. Uber taxis are great and overall wonderful break away

I felt the onsite Rib restaurant was over priced though high quality meats were served. Lightning was an issue and customers were using mobile phone torches to read the menu and view the food, ambience was good but some other lighting necessary. Two staff let the team down over the week , one particularly slow waitress who will not survive summer pace and another housekeeper who was shocked when we came back to the room and was charging their phone on our chargers !

The location is the best possible. The breakfast is of excellent quality and big variety. The personnel extremely helpful with everything. The last day our departure was very early in the morning and they gave us the breakfast in package for us to have something to eat with us.

We were met before our check-in time with a cup of espresso and a glass of Port. The staff kept our bags until the room was ready and then placed them in our room while we toured the city. The room was beautiful with a small balcony overlooking the river. The breakfast which was included was expansive and delicious. Highly recommend the Pestana for your stay in Porto.

The location was stunning, staff friendly and the breakfast amazing.

Location was great as it by the waterside and walkable to main attractions like the key churches, São Bento station and Livaria Lello. Breakfast had a wide spread, with hot food made to order and even wine and cheese! Most of all the staff were fantastic, most helpful and friendly. Made us feel like we are a part of the family. We ate dinner at Rib restaurant with great food and they even gave a discount and free cocktails!

The air-conditioning/heater was difficult to control. Perhaps it was winter and the cold came in. Wished we had a room facing the river though. Perhaps next time.

The room was not sound proof and had no real view. It look out over an alley way with cafes of which the sound echoed up to my room which made it rather noisy at night and resulted in an early wake up due to pick up of garbage I think

Room was low floor so a bit noisy late at night and early morning and AC was not great (but its an heritage hotel so to even get AC is probably a bonus!). One tip for people booking through booking.com is don't use booking.coms taxi service. It didn't show up and getting a reply out of Booking.com is disastrous. This has nothing to do with the hotel thought so book the hotel, just not through booking.com!

Unique location, well-appointed interiors while maintaining heritage exterior. But the real excellence is the staff, courtesy and efficiency with an eye on the details.

Staff couldn’t have been more helpful. Spotlessly clean. Breakfast buffet was good quality, well presented and a good selection available.

Location was VERY noisy. Right on the waterfront which was lovely but right in the middle of all the bars and street entertainers. Even with the windows shut at night still noisy from late night revellers, dust carts, delivery vans workmen etc etc.

I certainly recommend booking one of the river view rooms because that view from the balcony was rather special. You are literally just meters from the Duoro River flowering through Porto and luckily, there was minimal to no noise from the pedestrians below. You are also right next to shops (limited) and restaurants, but avoid the touristy restaurants which are open pretty much throughout the day. Get the hotel to book you a restaurant that opens after 6.30pm as that is where the locals go.

Breakfast, whilst having plenty of choices, was busy and tables are really squeezed into the rather limited space, so you are always bumping into fellow guests. Also, our room needed 2 separate lifts to get to, or you walk up one flight and then take the second lift. My key card didn't work with 1 day to go and took 3 visits up and down to reception to get the door battery replaced. But these were minor issues for the great view.

We loved the courteous staff and always enjoyed a well prepared breakfast.

Service for breakfast could have been better

The room was right on the water with such a beautiful view of the Luis Bridge! The breakfast blew us out of the water; there was a full buffet with all kinds of fruits, an assortment of baked goods as well as eggs, bacon, sausages, so many desserts, and a whole separate Portuguese spread with Pastel de natas and fresh honeycomb, then go into the wine room for champagne and sliced meats and cheeses plus you can order omelets, waffles, and pancakes, amazing! The staff always went above and beyond to answer questions; they were all accommodating! It is a very convenient central Porto location, easy to walk around, even across the bridge to Gaia. Perfect place to stay in Porto!

Location was right on the river

Taxi couldn’t take us to the front of the building. Had to walk down a hill with our luggage. Was hoping for a true Queen sized bed but had two twins linked together

Excellent location and the customer service was very very good!! Breakfast buffet was very nice, our room and the view was amazing, lovely turn down service!

Only complaint was that the bar at the front of the hotel with premium tables for viewing the square closed a bit early in our opinion. (9pm). We would have loved to enjoy drinks there for longer.

Fabulous location with good sound insulation from all the activity outside the window. Delightful staff who all seemed to enjoy making our stay as enjoyable as possible as possible. Excellent hotel restaurant, great breakfast selection.

Bathroom was rather dated. The shower was 1970s quality.
