Hotel Sentinel, Portland

The location, bed, but they gave us a room that wasn’t ready and cleaned.

The front desk person was very rude.

The area felt unsafe. There was an abandoned huge building next to it. There is also a nightclub inside the hotel right in adjacent to the lobby. Club music was playing loud while checking in. Seemed odd. We got in late from a long trip. Might not have been as bad if we arrived during the day. We would not stay there again.

Classic charm

Dinner and breakfast at Jake's Grill were fabulous.

I had a hard time finding the valet area but found it.

Would never say this is a 5 star hotel… room was very small and seemed very outdated.

Beautiful hotel! Our terrace room was lovely & quite comfortable. We ate dinner at the vegan restaurant here & it was outstanding! My meat eating husband even loved it. In the morning we got breakfast from Jake’s grill & that was delicious as well. We were happy with our experience here.

Valet parking was pricey.

The building is really pretty with a great location. The rooms are also spacious and clean

The fire alarm started blaring at 5 am, grabbed the kids and made our way down six floors of stairs only to be told to go back to sleep. Apparently one of the staff members triggered it by accident. As we were making our way back up the 6 flights of stairs (the elevators were still disabled due to the alarm), we were meeting the elderly that were still trying to descend to the ground floor. Nobody from the staff went up the stairs to inform them of the accidental alarm. Apparently this situation was not something they need to be sorry about as we got no apology or compensation even when pressed on the matter.

cozy room,

extremally noisy, not possible to sleep, fireplace had a noise and air-condition, but no way to turn off cause no options to open window. in a evening time was hard smell of gas (receptionist confirmed that this is fine). but smell was very strong, and feeling was not safe.

Central location in downtown Portland. Close to good dining and Powell’s Books. Staff went above and beyond. The parking valet, Wyatt, was friendly and provided us with great recommendations for eateries in the area. Front desk staff was professional and always willing to answer questions.

Beautiful old classic hotel in the heart of downtown Portland. Love this place. Jake's restaurant is top drawer with great fare and excellent service.

Location was good, the restaurant on site had very good food and a solid happy hour

Rooms were not cleaned daily. Stayed 4 nights. I had to request the front desk to please clean the room for the third night. The front desk said that they would but never happened. I again requested the room to be cleaned on the 4th day and they finally showed. Just weird and not what I would expect for the price.

The WiFi was terrible and the air conditioning was exceptionally loud.

I didn't like running into the luggage seats, whatever they're called that sit at the foot of the bed- got bruised hard. I also was disappointed to see no microwave in the room. Wasn't planning to eat out, brought food with me but couldn't warm it up. Had to order from restaurant downtown.

Everything went smoothly. The building is vintage and quite charming. The location was convenient to shopping and mass transit.

The view was not that great, but not much could be done about that; there are several taller buildings in the vicinity which block it.

The rooms could definitely use a good dusting! Lots dusty cobwebs hanging off curtains and the walls had lots of dust needs a good wiping down. Bottled water in the room would be great.

Room was comfortable and had a terrace with fire pit and view of Portland skyline. Appreciated End of Hall amenities. Bed and linens were very nice.

Shower/bathtub needs a grab bar. Liquid soap for washing hands would be preferable to small bar of soap. Bathroom very small. Furniture on terrace very very uncomfortable - would have spent more time on terrace if seating was better.

The parking was too expensive. On the other side of the street you’ve got a secured parking that costs you 30$ per night. Also the tarrace on the 6th floor should be cleaner and maintained better. However, still it is a lovely hotel worth visiting

the lock had to be changed and I charged for 50 dollors for checking in early. My room didn't get cleaned one day also.

I love the bed and had a good night's sleep which was just what I needed after several days of travelling. The pillows were so fluffy and the mattress felt so comfortable. I love the toiletries as well especially the bath gel. The decor of the room is very tasteful. The old school radio is a nice touch. The location of the hotel is very ideal as it is close to restaurants and shops.

I was expecting complimentary bottled water, as well as a dental kit and bedroom slippers, which are regular amenities in a hotel like this.

The room was very clean and elegant, but everything that was there was artificial. like books, and the "library" that they show in one of the pictures is just a small space that is only for pictures, you can't go there.

The hotel was located at the heart of portland, which was a struggle because the streets was one direction, so when I saw the hotel, was too late, so we need to make a long U turn, to get it back and park the car.

Walls are thing, noisy

Sentinel was a great boutique style hotel. It was decorated with such a nice theme, our room was cozy and had lovely skylights. The bathroom is huge with both a bathtub and a separate shower. It was a great central location to walk to most things and right on transit for anything we couldn't walk to.

Our only issue was on our last day we called down to order breakfast for room service, we were told it would take 45 minutes. After an hour of waiting we called back and were told the employee who took our order had left for an emergency and didn't put in our order. If we still wanted to order it would be another 45 minutes and we needed to check out in an hour. I know it might not have been possible but if they could have called us an informed us before we called them back, or put a rush on the delivery knowing we just waited an hour for nothing to be delivered.

Nice hotel in good location.

The hotel was exceptional. Our neighbors, however, were terribly loud until 3am or so. There is only so much 80s rap and drunken screaming a person can stand.

Comfy and spacious room in a characterful, stylish building, in a very good downtown location - lots of good places in walking distance and transport a stone's throw away.

I made a request for hypoallergenic pillows when booking, but had to request this again after arriving. I was also erroneously charged for valet parking after checking out and had to contact the hotel to rectify this. Both issues were quickly resolved by the hotel.

Stayed in the King suite. Decor, beautiful room, very comfortable. Friendly staff. Wish we could have stayed longer.

As I filled the tub to use the jets, the water had a yellow tint. Didn’t feel comfortable sitting it so I skipped the bath. Idk if that’s the hotel’s fault or city of pdx.

Nothing worth mentioning

This was our second stay at Sentinel - the first time, we had a bigger room, which was a fantastic oasis during a massive rainstorm. The only major difference in our smaller room was only one lovely chair around the nice table. On our first visit, during Covid, there were many deficiencies, due to staffing levels no doubt, but we liked it so much, we came back - it is just so pretty.

The major appeal of this hotel is visual (vintage, but welcoming), in my opinion - I’d like to see that energy reflected in the front desk service.

Staff was great. Very cool, funky hotel with trendy restaurant and wine lounge on site. Comfortable beds and and sitting area as well.

$55 valet parking and $29 amenity fee is a bit much. $29 for amenities did not match the value.

location and history,

we had booked the executive room with outdoor patio as a treat. sadly the corner room 613 had a patio which was not useable. the noise from a generater we were told was so loud and constant ( even heard inside the room). we asked to be shifted - we were allocated a smaller room on fifth floor on opposite side of building for same price. it was a little disappointing and impacted our experience. the patio rooms were not as described

The hotel is beautiful, the Fortune bar made great drinks and Jake's grill was delicious. The staff were extremely nice and helpful; not a sour face anywhere. The virtual cocierge made communicating our questions and needs much simpler. Really top notch for customer service. The "Room at the end of the hall" was a nice addition.

There were quite a few broken items in our room. In the Bridgetown Parlor Suite, some items that did not work: Jetted tub (dissapointment for me) Electric skylight blinds Nesspresso machine (only coffee machine in the room) Electric Safe Couple cleaning items missed, fake fingernail on the ground, pill in the closet, nothing major but still a little gross (fingernail anyway).

Didn’t really feel like a 5-star hotel. A bit rough around edges. Decent if you value “old school charm” or if you get a good deal via Genius discounts, etc.

The staff was wonderful and the vibe of the hotel was exceptional.

The cleanliness of the room; I advised the front desk that the dark green wall behind our beds was layered with an inch of dust. A visible handprint was left when it was touched, quite dirty and has to be cleaned before re-rented. Was surprised we were not offered some form of compensation for future travel; next time I'll ask to be moved upon check in as opposed to tolerating it, that's my mistake.
