Resort The Phoenician, Scottsdale
Expert reviews
“In a town where luxurious, expensive resorts are the rule, the Phoenician still stands apart, primarily in the realm of service. The gilded, marbled lobby with towering fountains is the backdrop for a $25 million fine-art collection.”
Featured as Fodor’s Choice in Phoenix.
“Situated on 250 acres nestled right up against Camelback Mountain, this palatial getaway—recently given a spectacular complete makeover—is the model of a world-class resort. The expansive grounds are dotted with magnificent Native American sculptures; two giant works by Allan Houser frame the main lobby entrance.”
Featured as Frommer’s Exceptional Choice in Phoenix.
“Located at the base of Camelback Mountain, The Phoenician, A Luxury Collection Resort is a cactus-dappled, sepia-toned retreat with sprawling green lawns, spouting statue fountains and a community of curvy pools cuddled together amid a collage of cabanas.”

lovely hotel with fantastic restaurant and gym facilities
absolutely beautiful
Need to reconsider pool policies during peak periods. Many guests frustrated with inability to get seating near pools.

Great stay in a fabulous property!
The hotel is on a stunning property and in a beautiful part of Scottsdale. The staff was friendly and very helpful. Although, breakfast was limited, the quality made up for it.
The hotel building is getting a bit dated (having been there the first time in the mid 90's).

Great location and beautiful grounds, although not a value for the lodging.
I loved the grounds and beautiful pool area. Breakfast was good but busy. The work out facility was wonderful. We really enjoyed the daily yoga on the lawn. We had fun with the pickle ball courts and they were very accessible. The room had new furnishings, even though stark.
The room was disappointing because the balcony overlooked the road and golf club house. The bathroom was badly designed with a 30" x 30" shower, and a very small vanity with no space for toiletries. The tub was nice to have but took up most of the bathroom. The suite door didn't work properly and slammed constantly on the bolt. This entry area did look beat compared to the rest of the room.

Nice but pricey
Great location amenities fantastic golf was really wonderful
Great amenities just be prepared to pay top dollar. Not a huge variety of restaurants on site but what we experienced the food was great. We had poor service one day in the breakfast restaurant and they compd us the meal so that was helpful.

Fabulous
.The staff we interacted with was very good on the whole; a few problems. The food in the lower restaurant (Mowbry etc) was always delicious, especially the egg white frittata at breakfast and the hanger steak at dinner. The grounds and general areas are always immaculate; we particularly enjoy the cactus garden! We appreciated the housekeeping staff and the bell staff.
The young man who checked us in didn't explain our room choice and we luckily changed that the next day. The technician in the spa had no formal training in facials - for the price, I expected more. This in contrast to my technician last year who was excellent and well worth it. If you cut corners, cut the price!

it does look luxurious for the most part, but it doesn't feel luxurious
We stayed at a Casita and we understand that it's in the dead of summer. here are the pros: Air conditioning is great kids play area is fun for kids 24-Hour pools beautiful grounds great Internet (kids didn't complain) have cute things for couples or families to do multiple times everyday Abel, a front desk bad ass, gave us the perfect welcome and was a very great dude overall
our room has cockroaches, spiders and crickets. I'm not mad at this. it's really hot outside and it's a very wet place. bugs are going to want to go inside. but the thing that grinds my gears here is that there was a big gap under the front door. they make it a big deal to remind you to keep the patio door closed because of pests but the real vulnerability is the front door. We did our best to fill in the Gap but the damage was already done. when we first arrived there was a big cockroach crawling on our pillows. when we called the front desk we didn't want to go through the trouble with switching rooms and just asked for some blood bug spray and sticky traps. The woman on the phone was very nice and wasn't annoyed that I called another time to ask for new pillowcases because I forgot on the first call. The pillowcases arrived pretty fast and the guy informed me that engineering would be coming over to help with some bug spray. they never came. we went and bought some ourselves and got traps. pool amenities: it's really really hot outside during the day. we swam at sunset to avoid 111° death rays. The bummer part about this is that the kids water slide is closed before sunset. and you're no longer able to order anything and have it delivered to the pool. there are currently only eight people swimming. it's not like there's a rush of business. it would have been nice to get a couple smoothies at 8pm. I don't understand how you can order room service 24 hours but you can't get it delivered to the pool (which is closer to the kitchen). I would understand if it's a cleanliness thing, but there are wet towels, beer cans and empty plastic cups swimming across the entire upper floor pool. nobody really apologized for the bugs or followed up with the request for spray or traps.

Dress nice if you want fast, friendly service and prepare to boil in the hot tub.
Food was good as always and location is top notch for accessing Old Town Scottsdale. J & G Steakhouse is one of the best Jean Georges locations we have experienced.
The staff in the lobby bar were very snooty; observation suggest they very much rate guests based on their appearance. Also, the hot tubs shut off at 6pm! Considering we were there in the summer months, one would only likely use the hot tub at night.

Beautiful location. Great food and drinks. Excellent service.
They make you close the umbrellas by the pool when it gets too windy. This is unacceptable in the hot AZ sun, at a high end resort during the Summer season…. get more substantial umbrellas or figure out how to manage the issue so guests can be comfortable. Most are there to relax by the pool, and not having access to the umbrellas is sort of ludicrous.

Very poor
There was NO ADVANCE notice that there was an emergency drill. I was told that the common areas had a pre announcement that it was JUST A DRILL. I did not hear any pre announcement IN MY ROOM. I honestly thought there was an active shooter on property. Management was dismissive when I explained this. Then, the next morning at 530am, a leaf blowing grounds keeper woke me up. I was only there for.a week to just get some much needed rest. At 545am I walked to the front desk and checked out and immediately went to the Scottsdale Fairmont Princes. After telling my story at my next business meeting with my staff, we have collectively made the decision to remove the Phoenician hotel from our out of town hotel list for our clients, business associates, family and friends. The assistant manager, Deven, sent me an offensive plancating email which I distributed and discussed during our staff meeting. Not one person in attendance could understand his purpose except for irritating an already unhappy guest. The Scottsdale Fairmont Princes actually gave us 2 free spa services to make sure we were able to relax after the Phoenician experience. The Scottsdale Fairmont Princes wants our business. The Phoenician could car less.
Everything Except the Spa.

Nice stay but would rather choose another facility due to excessive price of rather plain room
The outside grounds were wonderful. Loved the gym.
The king room was sort of plain and dated. Good attention given to the outside area but the room itself was disappointing. I have stayed at much better decorated rooms for far less money. Over priced.

the location to Scottsdale is very good. the room size was good. the pools were very nice. the staff were very courteous. the bed was very comfortable and the room was very clean. the mini bar fridge was stocked with a nice variety of drinks. my daughter left her IPad at the pool. one would’ve thought the staff were FBI agents as they attempted and succeeded to track it down in a matter of minutes♥️. the guacamole was excellent. the shower was excellent. the bathroom was a very nice size.
there was no decent bath soap. the soap provided was very small maybe a little larger than a quarter. the bathroom amenities were not very impressive. I felt the drinks were very over priced. $10 for a bottle of Mexican coke. (much tastier than American coke btw)

we stayed (unfortunately) over the Labour day holiday so the hotel was uncomfortably packed.
large room and bathroom.
outside of the steakhouse the food at the tavern on the golf course and the lunch menu at the hotel was pretty grim.

expensive, zero value, very disappointing
we (Platinum Members) used to spend time at this resort (Starwood) back before Marriott acquired the property and it was "exceptional", great food, service, all in all a great time, even the Chef at that time came out to greet us, now, this time around, extremely "BLAH"
the ugly......breakfast simply uneatable, (not mentioning that the restaurant was 30-40% occupied and they made us wait 30 mins...for what..?...no idea) when asked for a manager, the young that came to our table tries to spin the issues, damage control, small talk...?!...however, very poor attitude and vocabulary as a host, (folks and guys, and people...?...really...?)...how about Ma'am, Sir..?...maybe Doctor...? the thing they call espresso, is some brown tasteless liquid, awful...all kinds of rude, zero manners people at the bar (guests), extrememly unpleasand time, had to call security to have them removed, yet they were guests in the hotel, I am sure they will remember, $85 for a 5oz. piece of farmed salmon...ridiculous, the rooms are the same as 6-8 years ago, nothing updated, crazy stinky smell in the elevators, parking garage, garage entry/exit controls never work, asked for a quiet room, got the noisiest one, had to change the next day, we can never ever, ever get an upgrade...somehow there isn't one available, ever, then they give you a $10 voucher for a drink, when a drink is $15...laughable...extremely poor service, untrained staff, patronizing attitude, I believe it is time for us to move on from Marriott...very disappointing

Pleasant
Getting our room proved to be more trouble than it should have been. We booked a room but It would be nice to be able to specifically pick on a site map. We waited by the pool for a room to met our expectations but no one ever called so we had to keep calling back. In the end the hotel was very empty and we were never told the reason for the difficulty in getting a room with a valley view. For a resort of this caliber, assigning rooms needs to be a cost of entry for this price. Hope this helps.
