Lord Elgin Hotel, Ottawa

The room was very beautiful, clean, spacious. Good wardrobe with special place for shoes (very handy in the winter). Bed was huge and very comfortable. There was a coffee maker, TV and safe in the room. Bathroom was good and had a great amount of amenities. Breakfast is not included, but you can buy a buffet or a la carte and get a discount if you skip house keeping. I tried buffet breakfast and it was great with lots of choices and the staff were very nice. There is also swimming pool in the hotel, which I did not use. Location is perfect, right in the city centre, you can walk anywhere. There are lots of shops and restaurants nearby, O-train station is about 5-10 minutes walk away.

Bathroom was very cold in the winter. I could hear noises from other rooms and the hallway.

Great location and a historic building.

Needs a refresher. Feels dated. The entry needs a double door to keep the concierge warm during the winter. The vending machines take away from the premium feeling one should get.

Both mornings there was loud noise in the alley below the room. Truck back ups beeping, bottles and other sounds crashing.

The extremely, welcoming front desk clerk (her name was something like Esmeralda!) I'd stay again just to chat with her again! Wonderful amenities too! Pillows were so comfortable as was the bed. Food in the restaurant was expensive however it was delicious and plentiful. My side salad was large and the dressing was tasty. I has the Haloumi sandwich- flavourful and filling. The churros were delicious.

The floors by the elevator were shiny marble and very slippery. There was a warning posted but I think the hotel should invest in mats for the winter. A paper menu would be great for the room.

Great location in a traditional building. Good food (expensive though) in the adjacent restaurant.

"Park view" room booked, but from the 2nd floor (which is actually the first one over ground, as it's counted here) it was very very limited, rather a street view. You can opt out the room service for a 5$ voucher, but it has been given only once after the first night - but cleaning has been skipped, of course.

The location is great. You can easily walk to the downtown area.

I stayed there only two nights and was very busy. I can’t say there is something I didn’t like.

Lord Elgin is a classic, gracious hotel superbly located in downtown Ottawa. Our room was very comfortable for two, with large desk, inviting chaise lounger, and of course large tv, mini-fridge. Roomy walk-in shower. It was easy to control the room temperature, which was particularly important as outdoor temperatures were minus 14. Worth mentioning also the tasteful decor - nothing wild or jarring, just muted carpet and serene pictures of tulips. We had dinner in the Forty One, as well as breakfast, and enjoyed both meals due to uncrowded room, attentive service, and menu with selections we liked at prices that weren't ridiculous.

Upon arrival we were taken care of by the wonderful Immaculata . She helped us change rooms to ensure a park view and was so kind and accommodating throughout the stay .

Renovations were ongoing but did not interfere with our experience

Quaint, historic and comfortable. Great access to all things downtown. Staff was fantastic. They accommodated my early check-in request which was very much appreciated given we had come from out of town and I had to make a job interview. Thanks folks.

A Booking.com screwup left me without a room for two nights and Lord Elgin had one available - at much greater cost. But it was nice, staff were friendly and I was on business. Sure wish Booking.com system had worked though - the mistake cost me a lot of money for the late registration at Lord Elgin (entirely NOT their fault - they saved me.)

The beds are soft and comfortable. The rooms are extremely clean and well maintained. The onsite restaurant, Forty One was great. Staff was very friendly. Location was amazing. Valet parking was definately worth the extra cost. Very convenient. Would definately stay here again.

Had an end room on 4th floor. Was woken up at 3:00am by what I assume was music and loud yelling/talking from a local bar. This would have been on a Sunday morning and the noise continued well past 4 am. Seems a little late into the night for so much noise.
