Grand Hotel, Oslo

Very nice hotel, in a great location, room lovely shower great and breakfast is fantastic.

Nothing however there is no free bottled water in the room which is unusual.

I was offered a room with a front view but while it was very comfy and high quality when I noticed it was the smallest room in the hotel on the fire plan, I felt a bit sad as had another day and night to go without my friends and so intended spending more time in my room rather than be out and about by myself! When I raised this with staff within a few hours they moved me next door to a beautiful big room with a window to the front. It made me very happy and I was grateful the staff took my feelings seriously and acted to ensure the rest of my staff was topp quality and I ended my first experience in Norway on a real high! Very memorable.

Very comfortable bed with spacious bathroom and shower. There were plug sockets by the bed which was very convenient, as well as coffee machine and good minibar. The staff were all friendly and the breakfast buffet is extensive! Very good value for money, and great location too.

No kettle in the room

It is one of the nicer hotels we’ve ever been to, reason why we came back to it again. Beautiful building, great location, very kind and efficient staff and a spectacular breakfast

Great location and breakfast.

Having to pay a fee as a resident to use the spa is rare and we think cheeky when you pay for 5* hotel but we planned our day around a visit early evening as we were told by reception that the spa closed at 8pm. On arrival at 5.15, the spa attendant said it closed at 6pm. She wouldn't let me swim for the final half hour unless I paid the full fee (k250). Rules is rules, she was not having it. I complained to reception who gave us drinks tokens. We went to the bar at 9.45pm to use them to be told nothing except beer and wine could be served as the bar closes at 10pm and no G&T's could be served after 9.30pm. It's a Norwegian law apparently. Complained again to be met by fixed faces at reception. Disappointing. Won't stay again.

Lovely old historic hotel in centre of Oslo. We had a large room with a very comfortable bed and lounge area. Breakfast was excellent.

Our room seemed to be out the back a bit, it was downa narrow corridor on floor 4/5. The floor layouts are a bit strange.

Location

Rooms are tired and need renovation. The staff at the reception were kind but clueless. One of the rooms still smelt of paint or bleach. The hotel looks a bit dilapidated.

Gorgeous hotel in a Fantastic location. Breakfast was lovely and we enjoyed the spa which was small but very relaxing.

The rooms we had on the 6th floor were comfortable but not particularly luxurious for the price

A fabulous hotel - beautiful and elegant, warm and inviting - we loved it. Aits location was perfect, placed nively in oslo's main street- accessible to everything - minsutes walk to watetfront, main transport, sughtseeing but well placed for a 15 min walk to the more busier shopping location. The highlight is the food, the grand cafe provided a dazzling assortment of catering for a variety of taste for breakfast, and the local restaurants are close by if you want to eat out. Highly recommended- a comfortable and inviting g place. Thank you grand hotel oslo....we salute you, and we will stay again. Craig

Bit pricey

This beautiful property was an excellent location, staff very friendly, bar area was beautiful as were the drinks. The spa was also nice.

The bed was too soft for my preference however I know everbodies preferences cannot be accomodated.

The hotel is in a very convenient location and is attractive and historic .the breakfast buffet was good.

There was a convention while we were there and the restaurant was closed to all but convention goers for 2 days. There was no place to sit in the lobby because there were people everywhere. Housekeeping was very slow or didn’t show up at all.

Beautiful hotel, stunning! The bedroom was large with an excellent bed, mattress and comfy pillows. So important but often forgotten by even 5-star hotels. Breakfast was incredible - so much choice to healthy yoghurt and flak seeds, to eggs/bacon, pancakes etc

The restaurant dinner was expensive and not that great. Tried to be fine dining, but didn’t land.

The historical feeling of a luxury hotel is now gone from Grand Hotel - it’s almost like an average Scandic hotel

The hotel itself is lovely and grand and lush, however the rooms, or the room we stayed in was abit dated and needed a renovation, just signs of age and needing a refurbish. The staff were so lovely and accommodating, definitely the service of a 5 star hotel. However I would say that the room itself was lacking

The women in the front desk was so rude. And the room they gave us smells like dust.

The fantastic staff upgraded us to a much more modern and larger room. The bathroom was well designed, and elegant. The bed, the main reason for being in a hotel, was dreadful, the mattress was way too soft offering no support. The duvet didn’t fit the bed.

Initially the room we were offered was tied, dirty and cramped. The hotels lobby, lift and corridors were all tied and dirty, carpets dirty and worn out, decor falling apart. All the seats in the lobby are stained, basically there isn’t much grandness in the Grand Oslo. The fantastic staff upgraded us to a much more modern and larger room but the bed, the main reason for being in a hotel, was dreadful, the mattress was way too soft offering no support.

Staff were incredibly attentive, knowledgeable and accommodating whilst helping us find a bar and food on NYE in a city that doesn't stay open! Rubina the Concierge, the bar manager (whose name we didn't get) and the FOH team were all amazing

Perfectly located in the heart of buzzing shopping district. Most of the attractions are walking distance away. The decor of the hotel is tastefully done. Room size are large. Certainly gives a grand welcome.

The location was awesome as too the nostalgia and history of the hotel. We arrived early from 24 hours of travel and were checked in without additional cost.

Getting suitcases into and out of the hotel was hard. A ramp is needed from outside.

Very busy in the lead up to Christmas, could not relax due to number of people constantly in the lobby and bar. Room was very small. Room service menu was very difficult to find, took over an hour to arrive, was cold on arrival and then hotel tried to charge twice (once on the app and once on departure). While it ticked the 5 star boxes, it was missing the special touches, for example, no doorman (my husband had to hold the door open for an older woman who was struggling to get into the hotel), had to carry own bags up stairs to lifts, room service done via an app (might as well order ubereats) and no bookings available in the restaurant and limited food/ space in the bar/ lounge.

The location of the hotel is fantastic - right in the heart of everything! It was extremely festive (End Nov) and the rooms were very comfortable and the breakfast was very good without being exceptional. There was a rather strange smell in some of the corridors at times but other than that, we have a super stay.

The hotel overall is very good and clean, but there was no doorman, and I felt there was limited assistance provided to guests. For a five-star hotel, there should be someone at the door to open it and assist. Additionally, in the hallways, there were small metal strips that made it difficult to pass through with luggage. In the gym, some equipment was missing, and there were no cups available for drinking water.

Location was great, gym facilities excellent, room big and beutiful classical interior.

Breakfast was ok, but would have wished for more vegetables , berries and vegetarian options.

Didn’t get to try spa etc as didn’t have time but do plan to return when we will. Room was on warm side for us (we later found most of our hotel rooms to be similar so maybe it’s we have been accustomed to living at a lower temperature in UK!) and turning down thermostat didn’t seem to make any difference , room overlooked street so was a bit noisy with window opening but nothing to prevent a wish to return

Cons: • Poor air quality in the room; thermostat was non-functional. • Front desk staff lacked warmth and at times even professionalism. • Booking.com listing omitted key details about the stay i.e the information I required on the receipt. • Obtaining a proper receipt required multiple requests. • Noise levels were high due to thin walls; no complimentary earplugs provided. • Low-quality bathrobe and slippers. • Minibar only stocked with drinks, no snacks. • Insufficient lighting in the room. • Ironing board provided but no iron. • No blow dryer already available in the room. • Towels were rough and felt overused.

Staff not at all helpful. We were two couples we checked in on 29th October and my friend had her anniversary on 30th October I requested the front desk staff to help to arrange a cake at the breakfast table to give my friend surprise but they refused it is short notice so they cannot arrange. There were so many bakeries nearby my husband went and brought a cake. I was so disappointed by the attitude of the staff at front desk.

Price was premium, if just visiting for a weekend it is ok, would not stay for longer based upon the premium price.

As always, breakfast was excellent. - Most rooms are very good but it is always a bit of lotto what room you get, they are of different qualities & sizes. I am a fan of classic hotels which the Grand of course is. Small brush up would not hurt though.

The view I requested is not fulfilled. My room view is blocked by roof top of the building. But it is still ok, as I always get around and back to the hotel at night.

Fantastic historic hotel in fantastic location. Love the ice machines on each floor. Staff was great. Palm restaurant was great.

A beautiful hotel right in the very centre of Oslo. Rooms are spacious and the bed is one of the most comfortable ever. Our room was ready early which was so lovely. The room also had opening windows which is so important to us as we struggle to sleep without fresh air.

Our room looked out into a light well, so felt dark at all times. As we were only staying two nights it wasn’t really an issue but I wouldn’t want to stay much longer.
