The Sonder Wellborn Hotel, Orlando

It was clean.

There is no door to the bathroom which leaves little room for privacy when going potty. The noise level even super late at night was just too much even with the sound machine they provide. It felt very cold and uninviting.

The goods: Location is great - very close to Orlando Downtown. The bed was huge / very comfortable. Shower was good. Plenty of soft towels. All amenities there, tea, coffee provided. Didn't have any issues with check in but must do all verification in advance online to save time and problems. The bads: The noise levels are astonishing. The wedding took place nearby and we literally felt tremors and vibration in the room. Impossible to sleep without earplugs (which are thankfully provided). Walls are very thin, single glazing windows can't be opened. The room interior was nowhere near to what was on the pictures. We got a very basic, plain and simple room and paid much more for what it's worth. The floor was not wiped and felt unclean. We spotted a massive cockroach crawling on the floor. I feel that I've been booking one thing and got something entirely different in the end. It's advertised as somethig much better than it actually is.

Great location, good happy hour, decent room

Check in/out was awful. Automated system didn't work for check in, them texted me a day late to notify me about an event that very much impacted our ability to sleep, and the bed was a board.

Everything was very clean and well stocked. The beds and pillows were comfortable. The small kitchen perfectly useful. The staff was super responsive when we had questions. No complaints. We went in aware the neighboring venues would be festive on the weekend, and we would need earbuds/plugs. We slept wonderfully.

Excellent location, spacious room and beautiful building.

Hard to find the good entrance to the room (realized later that the panel indicating the room numbers had been moved the other way around) but staff on the phone very helpful. The restaurant in the courtyard is very noisy with loud music and voices until midnight both evenings…

there were no doors between the bedroom and bathroom and there were also ants in both the bathroom and bedroom. The night we arrived a drunk man was sleeping outside our door and there were no staff onsite that could help us. The blinds couldn’t be closed properly either so we didn’t feel safe when the bedroom was facing the bar and it was possible to look in. Does not look like the photos on the site whatsoever.

Location was perfect and the setting was beautiful.

Unable to enter the hotel, the entrance was locked with a combination padlock. Knocked repeatedly at the door, no one came at the door. Had to stay at a different hotel.

Lovely historical place.

I like the setup and the way we check in

It was too cold and the water didn't get hot enough. I got sick. No local tv station. Had to Chromecast phone but couldn't get Netflix to show.

Great location in the middle of Orlando especially if you have plans around downtown. It’s quaint and tucked away in a quiet corner absolutely loved it especially having a brunch spot/cocktail bar attached to it.

I honestly loved everything about it, maybe an option for some drinking water would be a nice touch

The location was amazing, the lights around the outside were beautiful and the bed was wonderfully comfortable. The information for check in was clear and detailed, I love that you could use your phone as a key. I have absolutely no complaints and would love to stay here again.

There was no cream for coffee.

The courtyard out the back of the property has a lot of ncie foliage and the sound of frogs and other animals at night was pleasing and different for such a city centre property.

There are no staff, this is not a hotel - it's a collection of rooms with everything run remotely via technology. The tech and human interface unfortunately doesn't work very well. Encountering some difficulty trying to enter the apartment late at night we rang the 'help' line - which should have been quick to sort out by simply telling me that everyone in our party needed to do the tedious face recognition verifaction video as well as just the person that made the booking (i.e. me) - but we were repeatedly told instead that we had only made a booking for one room not two and therefore he couldn't help us. We just had to work out what the problem was ourselves. Later, when in the room, I couldn't find the thermostat for the A/C, so I had to download the Sonder app to ask the question. The first answer was 'it's in the room by the door' - guess what, I had checked the obvious places! - I was then told, 'oh yes, sorry, it's outside in the hallway and covers all the rooms on the floor so don't change it much / at all'(!). Added to this, the room decor was a bit disappointing compared to the pics on the site (and the cost), including there being no towel rail in the bathroom. There was also no bar open in the courtyard in the evening as advertised and I saw barely a soul for my entire stay, except for my colleague. As its location is somewhat isolated just off the freeway, coupled with there being no staff onsite, I would definitely not recommend this place for solo travellers. All in all, a disappointing stay for a place that we had high hopes for, the lack of human warmth and presence is really telling - it's a heritage property, which they make a lot of on the website, but there is no one to bring it alive; they really need to lean into that otherwise there's no point.

Ac was set way too high (it said 75???) and we couldn’t control it. I think they may have turned it off at night. Windows were single pain so it got hot easy.

It was clean and modern and the location is good !

all respect to the team I’ve only dealt with amazing people /amazing customer service but unfortunately after staying for almost 2 months in this place and the other sonder in downtown the management decided to cancel my last reservation without any reason which is completely shocking and unacceptable. I confess to have broken maybe one of their rules by smoking once and got an email / first warning and acted accordingly . Idk maybe to fine me as per their policy or whatever should have been the action…. BUT to cancel a reservation AND REFUSE TO GIVE A ROOM to a customer that has been staying for two months in the last 3 months just too extreme, crazy and unheard off . Good job to whoever took this stupid decision you definitely lost a customer with a very high LTV that is always traveling around the world.

the space, architecture , garden , facilities etc

The accommodation was close to Downtown, in a nice neighborhood. The place was spacious. The kitchen appliances were convenient. The bed was comfortable.

Among many things: 1. No daily cleaning for the entire 5 nights. 2. Ants constantly in the kitchen. 3. On rainy days giant cockroaches would appear in the kitchen and enter through the back door. 4. It's a noise place due to music and events around the building. That's why the people who run the hotel leave earplugs in the room. 5. The entrance door to the apartment was very stiff. The door frame was not wide enough for the door to slide naturally to open or close. It was very difficult to get in every day and at that point we understood why the door was dirty near the floor: it was probably because past guests were kicking the door to open it. I stayed with a woman and it was impossible for her alone to open the door. We were in room 305, on the first/ground floor. 6. The bathroom door was also very hard to close and open, but not as hard as the main entrance door. It is an old building with renovations that were not done appropriately. 7. The mattress on the sofa bed was terrible. You could not sleep on it. 8. The sheets were of terrible quality. They were stiff and when you moved them they made noise as if they were cardboard. They need to be replaced with something of a higher quality. 9. No cable. They offer a Chromecast service but the internet connection is not good enough. Because of this, it was almost impossible to watch TV. Interruptions due to poor internet connection were constant (an average of 10 disconnections per hour). 10. The building is very old and therefore not completely renovated. The floors in the upstairs apartment must have been old because you could hear the floor creaking with every step of the guests in that apartment. 11. As there are no property employees, if you have a query, the options are calling or sending an email. If you need a solution to a problem urgently, sending an email is not an option. And for those of us visiting Orlando from other countries, calling a U.S.

loud - wedding and courtside bands playing at same time (ear plugs were available on bedside table!) room not updated (old non matching furniture) no check in desk or persons to give help if needed.. check in, supplies and tv all accomplished by cell phone.. so not good for older non Techs!!

The house was nice I like the grounds

We where not able to watch Tv the facility does not have cable Tv. We are very disappointed. Not able to have breakfast or lunch!!I

Central downtown location.

Poor water pressure, and takes a long time for hot water to come through shower. The apartment is furnished with basic necessities but otherwise sparse. Neighboring restaurant/Bar property is loud into the night. Sonder customer service was very poor and unable to accommodate requests.

Loved this property and plan to stay again when I return to DTO It featured a great courtyard with dining & cocktails. Beautifully designed!

The one-bedroom apartment is large.

So many things: 1. There's no staff for check in. It's apparently "mobile forward", but that means you have to take a mug shot to get the code for your room, and God help you if your phone doesn't have power or data--you will be left standing on a porch in the rain. 2. Noisy location. This property is a party/wedding venue. They helpfully provide ear plugs on be bedside table, but unless that's your idea of a comfortable night's sleep, avoid this place. 3. Dirty. You can see that they tried, but the furniture is dingy (including stains on the bed frame fabric) and carpet that should have been replaced at least a year ago.

Bit cool at night but Florida was very cold for a change

On a whole, it's a really fun place to stay. I loved the renovated old buildings and the whole Wellborn property in general. The design concept is great and the room was completely ready and everything we needed was in the room ready to go. The entry code was easy to use. There was a hand written note welcoming us and parking pass to put on our car(s) for the parking spaces in front of Parry Inn.

I didn't like that there was no staff to talk to. That all communications were done through an app. That's a big minus for me. Also, I rented a room with extra space so my colleague and I could have privacy. However, there were no walls separating the living room area and the bedroom area. And the bathroom was in the middle of the space with glass walls (privacy glass, making it shaded but still see shadows) that does not give any space for 100% privacy and causes the light to flood in to the whole space in the morning when someone uses it. Also there was no fan so after a shower and you open the door, the alarm detector goes off. Modern design flaw not really thought through for privacy?

Great building with character. Lovely hotel bar. Easy to check in and out. Great not needing a key.

The room was VERY cold!!! Air conditioning was set outside of the room and was blowing cold air constantly. Couldn’t control in the room. There was a thermostat outside the room that was padlocked. Hotel could do with a little love. Provided ear plugs and white noise machine which makes me think it gets noisy at the weekend due to the bar. It was open during our stay but midweek and noise didn’t bother us at all.

Nice location, plenty of parking (we stayed during the week) the onsite food and drinks were great too

Only issue was the hot water did not work in the showers honestly besides that everything else was amazing

The wellborn bar behind the hotel was very nice and the bar staffs were very friendly.

Loud music from the bar until 1 am. The hotel provides earplugs. I wasn't bothered at all but my friend had a hard time sleeping.

Interesting old fashioned house converted into stylish accommodation.

No means of getting breakfast without walking 7-10 through confusing traffic areas. FAR to many unnecessary automated emails and texts from Sonder!! It felt like harassment!

People pretty much kept to themselves. Very private experience and it was a nice clean room. Fast instructions as well considering there's no front desk to check in at.

No smoking facility. No smoking on the property but yet its connected to a bar/restaurant here you're aloud to smoke? It made no sense. Also this bar/restaurant had about 4 cocktails and 4 "finger food" choices when I thought I could catch a nice dinner and a full liquor bar.

The Wellborn was the coolest. The neighborhood was lovely. The garden was so charming. The property has a nostalgia about it that is refreshing. The rooms were clean and comfortable.

We had two rooms. The balcony in one room was not swept or dusted and there was not a light or fan on it. Also, the balcony room had limited amenities (no fridge or microwave). Despite the overwhelming loveliness of the area, it is near some traffic and parking is rough when the bar is open.

Carrying my bag up stairs, the room wasn’t clean enough -windows inside and out, exposed pipe under sink, unsecured mirror on the bathroom door, not enough accessible power points. The stairs needed to be vacuumed and so did the welcome mat. When we arrived a woman was there and could have helped with door -I knowitis hands off but it is just polite - or sit somewhere else.

No art on walls. Needed towel hooks in bath. Water pressure was terrible. Beds were too hot. The foam type retains all the heat

The location was convenient to downtown.

I really loved the open air bar next door - tremendous. I thought the apartment overall was really distinctive and an interest art deco historical place to stay. But I do think the suite could have done with some basic maintenance to bring it up to 21st century standards.

I think this hotel really suffers from a lack of easy access to staff. I found the remote issues I faced, especially with the app, a real problem. If you don't get your tech sorted, then you can't expect to do away with staff without consequences for a guest's overall experience.

Loved the decor/style of the apartment it has a very retro-feel! Room was cozy and fully stocked with amenities.

Wish they had regular cable tv, it was complicated to figure out that I needed Chromecast in order to see anything.
