Freehand Hotel, New York

The room was small but it had everything we needed. Staff was friendly and they were able to keep our bags all day after we checked out until we caught our plane in the evening. The hotel looks good, it's not modern but quite charming.

There's a constant noise from air conditioning machines or vents of some kind if you have a room not facing the street. I assume that you'd be affected by traffic noise if the room faced the street anyway, so not sure there's a good option here. In any case, bring ear plugs and that should solve it if you're just looking for a place to rest at night but you actually spend most of the day out. If you want a place to stay, relax in your room and so on, maybe not the best choice. Aside from that, considering that I found a really good offer through Booking, not much to complain about. It's a simple small room but the decor is nice, and it was quite clean, with daily housekeeping and change of towels.

The private room size was nice and the bed was comfortable. The hotel itself is chic and I think the rooftop bar would be a vibe if the weather was better. Amazing bagel shop around the corner.

Our room was freezing cold for our entire stay - they provided extra blankets and attempted to fix the heat and by the day we left it was finally warm. There was an event going on at the hotel and the bouncer was extremely rude to us as we tried to simply enter the hotel to go to our rooms. It felt very hostile.

We opted to not have daily cleaning but there weren’t extras toiletries that were needed such as a roll of toilet paper.

The room was very simple, had the basic things needed. Instead of an iron, there was a steamer for my clothes which I LOVED (it's the little things). There were plenty of hooks to hang clothes, bathroom had a stand-up shower with great water pressure. Plenty of seating for a single room. I would recommend this to solo travelers since it's also near a subway station.

Having to climb over the bed to close the blinds since there was no space to walk around. Elevators were small, so be mindful if you are looking for accessibility or don't like cramped spaces.

Twice during my stay I was awoken by the plumbing when the room next door took a shower. No coffee making facilities or even water in the room. Elevator was out of service. 3 bars nearly always closed or unavailable

The hotel is designed very tastefully. The rooms are simple but cozy, and have everything you could need or want in a hotel room. The bars are great places to hang out (and very convenient). Reception staff was very helpful at all times (water bottles, recommendations, luggage storage).

Cleaning staff could have been more thorough. My "Do Not Disturb" sign was on my door until late morning and my room was not cleaned even though cleaning staff was still working on my floor. Other hotels I've stayed at have done a final check to see if any "Do Not Disturb" signs have been removed since they first passed. Not a big deal, I would say it's the only negative aspect about my entire stay.

Location, cleanliness, facilities, room size, moneys worth. Everything was great.

The only thing that bummed us a but was that the person at the counter while checking in didn't say anything. All they did was charge my card the refundable 200$ (without telling us what they were doing) and tell us the room number. No welcome, no info, nothing. When we checked out the person at the counter was way friendlier and more active. We saw them handing our water bottles to everyone checking in, nothing we got when we arrived.

The quad room is a good deal but it is tiny. No room to sit at all and can’t sit up on beds as you bang your head on ceiling or other bunk. Just an fyi. It is fine if you only plan to sleep in the room.

I like the informal and friendly vibe here. Staff were all very nice, breakfast was good. Location is also great for exploring Manhattan.

We got a very small room which was close to the air ventilation system, so the noise was terrible, we couldn't sleep. Fortunately the staff changed our room the next day (apparently they were already aware that they gave us the worst room in the building). Too bad there isn't a breakfast option

Its a vary cute place and the rooms are comfortable. Also the breakfast is amazing.

It could be a little bit cleaner - the coverlet on the bet had some dirt on it.

Style of the lobby and restaurant. Roof top bar. Gym. Bell room / suitcase storage post check out was a nice service.

The room was tiny. No view. The bathroom was tiny and really hard to use. The light was dimmable but the bulbs not dimmable, so they flickered no end.

Cute cozy rooms, temperature was good, quiet, no disturbances. We were able to check in a little early which was convenient and they even held on to our bags while we wondered the city before our flight.

We didn’t need our room cleaned the first day, but we spoke to the housekeeper as we left the 2nd day and said we would be out all day, so no rush on getting it done. But when we got back around 8/8:30pm it never got done. Little disappointing but maybe they got busy.

The bed could have been a bit more comfortable. Very small rooms, but quaint. Common in NYC boutique hotels. Love the attached restaurant, though I didn’t use it, I will next time! Smelled great, and solid menu.

the whole experience

Was close to my daughters school where we were moving her.

Was cramped sleeping. Thought I was getting a room for three with a queen bed and bunk but got two bunk beds to sleep four. Also, called the hotel to get a room for another night by leaving a message. No return call which was disappointing since my back window in parking garage was smashed out and had to stay somewhere else while getting fixed.

The staff are friendly and helpful and the location is great for first time visiting NYC. Well located.

I am still waiting on my deposit to be paid back and our air conditioning unit did was a bit faulty so we were freezing.

Location was fantastic, and in a very walkable part of the city. Great view of the city from the rooftop bar.

The room carpets/ rags were not the cleanest, specially the side of the bed by the window.

The location is great close to subways and restaurants. The area feels safe and within walking distance to places we wanted to visit. We heard a noise coming from one of the heating vents during our second night. When we called the main desk after midnight to report the issue, they answered the phone and reassured me that they will send a person to check the system. I assume this is an ongoing situation because they offer ear plugs. We were exhausted and went to bed.

The noise coming out of the heating vent was bothersome.
