Hotel Royal Sonesta, New Orleans

Location is amazing! Room was good and comfortable and quiet until the college kids from Georgia arrived and then everything changed!! It was OK though and a long time ago I was young and did the same so no worries!

I think a better breakfast venue is required in a hotel such as yours.

The heated pool was great.

Not attentive on 3 different occasions. I asked for an extra pillow which they said they would bring up but they never did. I asked for the lock on the door to the outside pool/courtyard area to be fixed because the room key to outside only worked for one day of the 3 we were there. The room key worked on the main door but not the outside door and they said Maintenance would come to fix it but they never did. When I checked out the receptionist said they would email me the final billing info and she never did so I am assuming the total charges were within a few hundred dollars of what I spent but frankly I am still not sure.

We had a double bed room. Beds were comfortable. Facilities were clean. Staff was excellent and very friendly. The location was great. We were able to park for the weekend and walk everywhere we wanted to go.

the noise was awful. The overnight parking was too pricey in comparison. The Desire breakfast staff took an extremely LOOOOOOONNNNNGGGGGGG time with service, greeting, and the food was usually wrong. Overpriced food.

The property is located in the heart of the French Quarter between Royal and Bourbon St with beautiful balcony views. Our room was lovely! The balcony overlooked the Music Legends Park on Bourbon, so we could hear the live jazz at night, which was perfect. The staff from the valet to the front desk to the cleaning team was excellent. You’re within walking distance of basically everything you need with easy access to streetcar stops. We will definitely be booking here again! Be sure to check out Desire Oyster Bar! The food was delicious. I had never had oysters before & our server was kind enough to let me try a sample!

It was a little hard to book tickets for the Jazz Playhouse. I think that process could be improved with being able to reserve seats at the front desk rather than through Eventbrite. Also, there was pretty loud construction happening outside our room starting around 7-8 AM. I understand this isn’t something the hotel can do anything about, but just a warning that your balcony view could be overlooking construction (as of Dec. 2024).

The room needed a little upgrade (water fixtures). A welcome bottle of water in the room would have been nice.

Beautifully decorated for Christmas in the lobby.

Mini fridge in room had no complementary bottles of water. It was totally empty. Called front desk to find out where a vending machine was located. They only have ONE vending machine for the entire hotel down in the lower level by fitness center!! ONE! So my husband goes to find it and returns saying that the vending machine was empty! Sold out of every drink! I called back to the front desk and told them the situation and asked if they had any complementary bottles of water and she said they had a large bottle of Evian that was $15. We got it but then the next thing that happened was that the alarm system went off at midnight while we were all in bed trying to sleep! While we were trying to quickly dress another message came across the intercom that is in each room telling us to stay put until they investigate if there really is an emergency. What?? Then 20 minutes later it was announced that there was no emergency after all. Just crazy! Another issue was that the mini fridge had a glass door and fluorescent lights in it making the room very bright when all the lights are off. So we had to cover it with a decorative blanket off the bed. Beds were doubles. Hard for 2 grown ups to get comfortable in such a small bed. Most nice hotels have queens. Bathrooms small. Noise from hall was very easy to hear and made sleeping difficult. Finally, I let the hotel know that I was coming in town to celebrate my 60th birthday and could they do something special for me. Well I had celebrated my 40th here and was treated like a queen by the staff so it was disappointing to find nothing waiting in the room for me. No note, chocolates, flowers, champagne, coupon to restaurants, etc. The hotel sent me a text asking if there was anything they could do for me to just let them know. Well 3 days before I arrived I called to confirm the reservation and I told the lady that I talked to that I was coming to celebrate my 60th and could they do something special for me.

Perfect location on Bourbon, walking distance to tons of restaurants. Great staff! After upgrading to an interior balcony room, we loved the space and view.

Our initial room was very cramped and the window was sealed shut, so we upgraded (pricey!) to get a patio with a door to the balcony to get some fresh air. Would have liked a robe in the room for the price of the room.

It’s expensive housing keeping is very slow to clean rooms on extended stays and there is no bidet.

The bed was the worst I have ever been in. It had a huge slope to the middle. Made sleeping terrible. The water pressure in the hotel was awful. Water barely came out of the tap.

Right in the heart of downtown hotel at good restaurants and entertainment. Was very clean and felt safe with the style of security you had.

The pool water was cold and couldn't use it. And wanted to. Ask for a room with a balcony and two queen beds and they could not provide that for us.

If you are in New Orleans for just a few days and want to be in the thick of the action this is definitely the place. Even though we had a room overlooking the corner of bourbon street ( and let me tell you how busy and noisy bourbon street is) we weren’t actually disturbed massively by the noise. Super comfy bed, not the strongest of showers but nice bathroom and lovely traditional balcony overlooking the street.

Better directions from the concierge’s, they told us to go in completely the wrong direction for our restaurant, but on the plus side we found things we wouldn’t have seen.

The staff was very nice, suggestions for activities in and out of the hotel was very helpful. The hotel is beautiful inside. Check in and out was a breeze. Love the Front desk staff. Whenever I needed assistance or had questions they were very prompt and courteous with solving problems. Not that I had major problems. They were always polite.

The room is kind of small for the price. My closet door was off track. The room should have had no issues when the price is so high. After 5pm it was a bit much trying to get transportation out of the area. I will choose Sonesta again but not that particular location due to the congestion around it.

Most of the staff were really good. CALEB, he was the best 👌 The man at the concierge was also great. Overall facilities were also good. Desire and The jazz club and shows were great.

1-2 staff at reception should smile while talking to customers. Hard to find water at midnight.

The location was on Bourbon St. This is where I wanted to stay. It was very nice right in the center of the action. There was noise but my room was on the opposite side of the building so it was quiet. It was very clean

They could have put a bar of hand soap in the hotel bathroom. Otherwise it was nice.

Location is fantastic. Staff was very nice and it was Taylor swift weekend so I’m sure they were super busy.

Shower sucks—pressure was super low and had to put a wet washcloth to hold the drain down so it would drain but that should be an easy fix and probably not every room. And I rated the value of what I paid a bit low because of the inflated price for Taylor swift weekend. Most places were doing that so there wasn’t really a way to avoid that. Their normal pricing fits with what you get and think that would be worth it. And the location is really good if you want the French quarter and not far from the superdome.

The location on Bourbon street was amazing. Once in your room the noise from outside could not be heard.

It would have been nice to have complimentary water in the room. There was no soap in the bathroom.

Convenient location, moving about Bourbon Street, Royal Street, close to everything, walking distance to everything of interest. French Market, St Louis Cathedral, EVERYTHING! Staff of the Royal Sonesta are exceptional!

A little disappointed not having room service available

The location cannot be beat! it's right in the middle of the bustle of Bourbon Street within easy walking distance to everything French Quarter or Canal for transit. The front door staff was amazing and helpful and friendly. There are also several restaurants and bars attached to the hotel that make it easy to grab something on your way out.

The pool was unheated and we frequently found empty glasses/cans/towels in seats when we tried to visit the pool. In the room, the bathroom did not have an exhaust fan or a place to hang bath towels which just made the space feel damp and humid. there was a tub stain and some damage to the back of the bathroom door in our room as well. The one day that housekeeping did arrive they replaced our bath towels but not our bath mat and we didn't find follow through on the message or requests for housekeeping support to be reliable. There was no communication that we recieved the late checkout we requested, but I believe we were charged for that even though we checked out before noon. I cannot confirm because I requested an emailed bill that I have still not recieved.

Everything! We will come back again. It's on Bourbon Street, which is entirely safe for us ladies. Everything was clean and beautiful. I strongly recommend it for a girlfriend retreat or any group trip to that hotel. The pool was also excellent, with the bar on the dock. However, they need to work on their billing part- when I reserved the room, I included breakfast and 15 dollars for a daily snack meal. But they ended up charging me on my bill. I tried to resolve this issue, but they weren't available. I need to address this because I don't want another customer to go through this. Am I being scammed?

The front desk and staff in the lobby were excellent and very, very helpful. The Desire bar/restaurant is a great place to eat and have a drink. The beds are very comfortable, and I had no problem with sleeping.

The room was definitely not very clean when we checked in. It needed to be vacuumed, and the baseboards are filthy. Later on it was vacuumed and the floor was better. There was only one facecloth in the bathroom the first day so we asked for more. We got some until the last two days and then there were none again. There was only on bar of soap. Is there some kind of rationing going on with facecloths and soap??? I have not had a chance to peruse my bill in detail, but it looks like I was charged different prices for the room on different days. I was not aware of this please explain.

My room was quiet and very comfortable. The view out the window wasn't great, but I also didn't spend much time in my room. The staff we so friendly and helpful!

The rooms are in disrepair. A lot of updating and work needs to be done. The amenities are lean given the cost. No microwaves in rooms.

The rooms are not cleaned sufficiently. There was someone’s shirt left in the room from whomever stayed before us. The rooms are carpeted. Gross! The room smelled very musty! I mean beyond normal NOLA must.

Ok... our room was right behind the DJ booth on the pool level. Not gonna lie- that sucked. after being out drinking til dawn it was not cool being awakened from the Bass droppin. but I got over it and went to the pool. A warning and offer to move after being told about the pool DJ would be a suggestion for future guests in those rooms

The bed frame was kind of busted and old it could use replacing but bed was decently comfortable although kind of hard.

Property was good located right where everything is can literally walk outside and join the party will be staying again. The staff was nice and the hotel itself is so pretty! INSIDE AND OUT!

We did have a cup left behind our curtains in the room! So wasn’t cleaned to well but managed and it was confusing a the parking because we didn’t get incidental back the whole money management was confusing
