Expert reviews

New York Times review:

“Newly renovated, the 950-room Fairmont the Queen Elizabeth now has a trendy lobby bar, Nacarat, and a gourmet food court, Artisans. Guests can splurge on room 1742, the room where John Lennon and Yoko Ono staged their 1969 “bed-in” protest of the Vietnam War, newly decorated in period style.”

Featured in New York Times’ 36 Hours in Montreal.

Forbes review:

“It is no longer the same Montreal hotel that Queen Elizabeth first visited in 1959, nor the property that John Lennon and Yoko Ono chose for their “bed-in for peace” in 1969. Instead, it has undergone a $140 million transformation to be at the cutting edge of hospitality and the face of the city’s dynamic character.”

Telegraph review:

“The first hotel in North America to boast escalators, air-conditioning and direct dial telephones when it opened in 1958, things have come full circle for Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth, thanks to a multi-million dollar refurbishment that once again puts the hotel back at the top of its game.”

Excellent amenity classic 5 star

Very much a superior location, connected to Montreal underground: It is possible to travel almost anywhere downtown without a jacket during the winter. The hotel also has superior sports facilities: an excellent well stocked gym, great swimming pool / hot tub with reserved time for adults (after 8p). Staff had plenty of Christmas perks for kids. Our go-to hotel for Christmas time in Montreal. A+

Nitpick: There are only two car charging stations for the hotel garage, and they are thus always booked. Would be nice if there were more to increase the chance one can charge one's car during their stay.

Still a great hotel just had a horrible on this trip.

Hotel location is awesome!

Room 1246 was horrible, it may as well had been in an elevator shaft for all of the noise.

Fabulous

The hotel was beautiful and felt luxurious. If you are too early for the check-in, you can leave your bags for free.

During the check-in there was a huge line and only 2 desks were open. It took a long time before we were checked in.

Good location and comfortable bed

The bed was very comfortable and the housekeeping did a great job cleaning each day. The hotel was beautifully decorated for the holidays and had a nice pool and hot tub area. While a bit small, the room had a good layout and the bathroom and shower were very nice.

There was a whooshing noise from the elevators that was pretty loud in the bathroom and could be heard from the bed. The escalators from the main floor, subway and train concourse were also not working, so it was difficult to bring our bags up and down to the hotel lobby. We did not open the cupboard with the mini fridge because we weren’t sure what we would be charged for.

Good location. Expensive for room quality.

The pool was lovely and clean. Reception area/lobby nice but few seats and very dark.

Rooms quite small. Cleaning was not great. Dust in our room.

I was expecting more.

We expected more from a Fairmont, even more when compared wiyh other Fairmont hotels.

The beds, the size of the room and bathroom, very little time slots for spa.

Some adjustments are necessary to stay at the peak.

I like to style and how it is kept

I cannot understand why a four-star hotel cannot offer WiFi at the room where you get it at each coffee shop and pizza place. This outdated policy is a no-go. This is the first time I had to pay for leaving my luggage at the bell captain for two hours. Again this is a no-go.

Happy guests looking into minor details...

Hotel is in excellent location. Beds are very comfortable. Macaroons as welcome token were a trully nice touch.

Hotel is very big and there was always a queue at concierge. However employees working there were very professional and capable. There were some scarry and big spiders outside of our room window (16th floor!). We could not open the window for some fresh air because of spiders. We survived, but that was what we did not like. We did not have any drinking glasses or coffee cups in the room and had to ask for some. We got them upon request. One day cleaning lady took away shower gel (to replace/refill the bottle) and forgot to finish the step... so we had to ask for it. There are full size shampoo + conditioner + shower gel in the bathroom.

Very good

The location was amazing - right next door to the train station and central downtown. The beds were extremely comfortable. The view from our room was lovely overlooking Mount Royal. The lobby Cafe and marche were convenient and tasty.

This Fairmont does not compare to others I've stayed at. The luxury wasn't there The only real complaint however is value for money.

Fabulous

Great room great view-particularly appreciated the fact that the window opens just a little, so you can have fresh air and city noise if so desired.

Bathroom was lethally small.

Not enough parking here. Self park at unprotected sites made me uneasy as car theft is on the rise.

Rooms are small for the money yet compact and efficient.

The internet should be included in the price of the room. The small fridge should allow us the capability to keep water or medication that requires to be cold without being charged.
