Expert reviews

Fodors review:

“Even if you’re not staying here, it’s worth a stop to see this 12-story downtown landmark, built in 1925. The lobby has the original stained-glass skylights and the travertine-marble fountain that is home to the hotel’s resident ducks.”

Featured as Fodor’s Choice in Memphis.

Frommers review:

“The Peabody Hotel has long been a Memphis icon: it’s the most elegant hotel in town and it’s just up the way from Beale Street. After a major renovation that ended in late 2013, the rooms gained contemporary touches that include boldly patterned rugs, geometric mirrors, sculptural-looking headboards, keyless card systems, and soundproof, energy-efficient windows.”

Featured as Frommer’s Exceptional Choice in Memphis.

Forbes review:

“The Peabody is a Memphis landmark. Perhaps best known for its signature ducks that march twice daily to splash in the hotel’s fountain, this grand hotel is also a shopping destination (it’s the home of Lansky’s, Elvis’ favorite clothing store).”

strengths and weaknesses

I love the history and the rooftop party. Thursday night was awesome. Most of the staff was good..

The concierge was not helpful at all. He made me feel stupid for not knowing a phone number of a tour company. After driving for hours, we sat in the bar and had some food from the peabody deli. And we're told after we paid our bar bill, that we can't have food in the bar area that we bought from the Peabody Cafe, because they need to sell more booze. That was very off putting on first night. We saw other people eating in there. It's really not that big of a deal...I didn't think. By the way, we were drinking their expensive wine with our croissants. That we bought. The housekeepers were great. The staff were friendly, some of the security were very friendly. The parking manager Hunter was great to talk to and ran off a loiter and talked to us about the area In a friendly manner. We loved the family fun time of the Duck March. And all the excitement. I also talked to your HR director, Karen. She was very friendly, nice and informative.

Walking in Memphis

Great Location with walking access to area restaurants and bars.Grand Lobby was outstanding. Music history, Graceland, and Museums were great attractions.

Half of a mile from the hotel is sadly depressed with vacant lots and empty buildings. Some sidewalks littered with broken glass and broken concrete. City leaders should take a better role in getting the area cleaned up.

Short visit to Memphis, would definately recommend The Peabody Hotel

The lobby is amazing. Very regal and old world. The duck parade is a must! Our room was lovely but it’s getting a bit old. Needs a little update. Other than that we enjoyed our stay at the Peabody Hotel.

We loved the hotel but our room was in need of a slight upgrade

Quality hotel in centre of Memphis

Loved ambience of the hotel. We were allocated a newly refurbished room on the 5th floor in a Queen room.

Although room was adequate for our 3 night stay, the bath room is quite small. However, the hotel provides quality toiletries and the soap duck was a nice touch.

Great location and the ducks. Close to Beale St and great restaurants and the ducks are amazing. Great shops and snack shop. Parking was very convenient and made you feel safe. The ducks in the fountain all day and there entrance and exit is a must see.

Bed was a little soft for our liking but others may love it. The toliet and sink are way too close together.

A wonderful, historic hotel with old southern charm

Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. It’s been on my bucket list for years and we were lucky enough to get a Sunday night deal. The duck march so lovely - we saw it twice! The duck master took the time to pose for pics and was a real showman. Staff were all attentive and couldn’t do enough for us. We loved the free morning hot chocolate and the little touches in the room like the duck soap! We are recommending to all our friends!

Nothing.

Great stay and would recommend The Peabody. My son and I were impressed with the old charm.

Atmosphere was great, enjoyed the Marching of the ducks. We were able to relax in the lobby and enjoy people watching. The floor was quiet and people respectful of others on the floor. Like the fact that room keys worked on just your location and the roof. The breakfast was delicious and a good start for our busy day.

Did not like the fact there was no refrigerator in room for my insulin since I am a diabetic. The staff tried to upgrade my son and I to a larger room which was not necessary since we spent limited time in our room.

Very good

Great hotel, great location! 99% of the staff was great.

There were blood or make-up stains on our shower curtain and a few of the towels. Whoever checked us in wasn't very nice. Just mechanical, not personable at all. We didn't even know our room came with a turn down service and I was so embarrassed when we came back after going to a baseball game and to dinner. I left clothes out and some personal belongings I would have much rather had hidden (put up and away) if I knew housekeeping came into the room. Whoever was working along side of her was extremely pleasant! The rest of the staff was very friendly, respectful, and just nice to be around.

Sumptuous luxurious stay in this southern jewel .

Fabulous hotel . I just loved the decor in the lobby and the bedrooms . So comfortable and tasteful . I slept like a log every night . Chambermaids were first class as were the staff and valeting and everything else in general . It was a little bit expensive but then as it’s the US Southern equivalent of the Dorchester Hotel in London ( where I live ) then I guess it won’t be cheap .

Only the costs of some things but that’s all . I’d come again .

We recommend the Peabody Memphis for safety and cleanliness.

In the heart of downtown Memphis with access to restaurants, the Orpheum Theatre, the FedEx Forum, and Beale Street, the location is perfect. The staff, facilities, and Duck Master are top tier! Breakfast was great. Breakfast is not included with the room; however, there is room service for an extra fee. There's a lobby bar where my husband and I enjoyed a night cap. We always enjoy staying at the Peabody Memphis.

The taxes added to our stay were less than stellar. Expect to pay $80.00 in taxes in addition to your room fee. We were quoted $265 for 1 night and paid $345 total. Unfortunately, we heard there was a shooting a couple streets over when Sayso P was murdered in broad daylight the day of our arrival. It's still Memphis, so just make sure to keep yourself aware of your surroundings.

Exceptional

The Peabody has a wonderful "Old World" feel. It's all about being taken care of with the service being exceptional and the staff members friendly and willing to help when ever asked. The hotel lobby is charming and welcoming. The Duck March was, of course, a fun experience. The cocktails are absolutely delicious! The breakfast was wonderful. Free coffee in the deli was always hot and ready. We had Dinner for our anniversary in the Capriccio Grill. ( The bread board is worth a try)Tempatures on the steaks were dead on. The only negative was we were seated at a very small table in the middle of the restraunt being too busy to have a quite corner to enjoy conversation with our meal. Staff buzzing around both sides of us. Otherwise we had a lovely time and will be back.

A lovely experience and memory in every way.

The hotel is beautiful and elegant and the staff is very friendly and helpful. We were so glad that we took advantage of the offered upgrade at check-in. We were given a lovely, spacious room on an upper floor which we enjoyed very much. The lobby bar is a wonderful place from which to enjoy the famous and fun Duck Walk experience.
