Hostel The Hat, Madrid

The Hat hostel has great location. You can also get a map from the reception. The staff is very warm and helpful. My bed was very comfortable with enough shelf space for the personal stuff. The luggage locker was also big enough even for my large suitcase. The breakfast is very tasty and in addition to the standard selection, there was also something different every day. The hostel has also nice rooftop terrace.

The dormitory with private bathroom/toilet had metal doors on metal rails. Those were quite noisy (some cushions for the rails would be nice). Also the light above the sink was shining straight to my eyes even when my bed curtain was closed (maybe it could be just recommended to use only the bed lights in the middle of the night, for late commers). I understand that some noise is expected in the dormitory, however getting woke up because of those at 4/5 AM was not pleasant.

The location was perfect. The staff was very helpful. I thought it was very clean. I only stayed one night, so I can't comment on the overall cleanliness. The bed was very comfortable. I recommend it.

The stay was great! The room was spacious, and had plenty of storage for your luggage and personal belongings. There were lockers and hooks in the room and a shelf, a couple of hooks, and a plug with some usb plug-ins as well. The bathroom was nice, with a good shower, and stocked well with toilet paper and soap for washing hands. The location was great, close to Plaza Mayor and within walking distance to the metro.

It was close to the train system and the historical district. The staff made us feel welcome immediately. The common area was very accessible and well kept. They had a restaurant upstairs on the rooftop that was very convenient and reasonable with good food. They offered a workshop in making Sangria, which I thought was a great community building offer, even though I was too tired to take part. There were locks offered for the personal storage areas. It was friendly, safe and comfortable stay that I would highly recommend.

Friendly and helpful staff. Its location is perfect for simply strolling, finding things to do and enjoying without haste. If you don’t like walking too much or need to go further there are many bus stops nearby and train stations. The social spaces are spacious. There are even more bathrooms that can be used if the room’s bathroom is occupied. They also have activities to meet other guests.

Very stylish hostel. Staff was very friendly and helpful. We were glad for their secure luggage storage before and after check-out. It's in a locked room with a baggage tag like you would expect at a hotel. Beds were comfortable.

We booked into the 8 bed dorm thinking it had large windows based the photos, but I guess they just have had different rooms with 8 beds because ours didn't have the window.

OMG the location - right in the heart of old Madrid - just gorgeous. Check in was super-easy. The beds are really comfortable, with individual lights and curtains for privacy, and the private bathrooms very well set up. Bonus points for the excellent Spanish breakfast spread for only 7 Euros, served by a super-competent local lady. Do the walking tour if you can, it's great.

I would like it if the rooftop bar were a little more friendly - with more opportunity to mix with other guests. Many people sitting alone on their phones was a bit sad to see. Also the snacks were overpriced for the low (supermarket) quality.

The location was very central and close to everything. The breakfast was varied and there was something you were sure to like. The staff was very friendly and helpful. There was a market right in front. Thank you so much for everything.

The hostel was very nice and comfortable with friendly stuff and excellent location.

The only thing I didn't like was that I was not able to buy a coffee in the roof cafe in the morning. My friend was having breakfast there and I wanted to keep her company. As I was not hungry I wanted to have a coffee. However, the stuff told me to go downstairs to drink coffee, as they served it only to people who buy breakfast in the mornings. It was a bit disappointing.

The location is perfect, the hostel is in the middle of the downtown. The staff team is very kind, and keep the rooms clean all the time. I really recommend!

I‘ve been several times in Madrid and this one is my favorite hostel so far! :-) It has been exceptionally clean, the shared bedrooms offer a good privacy in each bunk bed, the roof top (bar/restaurant) is amazing, but either way you don’t have to consume there (might say, you can aswell just use it for hanging out). The stuff was super cool. So all in all, it’s a total recommendation!!

Very small shared room, practicly no place for 2 people to stand. Very hard to climb up the ladder, nothing there to hold on. Loud cause there is a bar at the rooftop. They wanted to charge me for bag storage the last day until 3pm, not telling that it is free until 2pm. It's nice and fair to remind guest about that.

Bed is too high

The room was clean and spacious. The bunk had shelving and an easy place to store one's belongings. The location of the hostel was very central. The downstairs cellar was an open place to hang out or eat and the hostel hosted events that helped you meet other travelers. Bathroom were clean and functional.

The linen cover provided with the bunk was quite thin and I felt a little cold during the night, could have used one more layer. The kitchen was good for storing food, but a little limited with kitchen supplies (larger knives and a stove).

Great Staff. Perfect location in Madrid's city center. Recommended for solo travellers who look for value for money accommodation.

The bed was extremely comfortable, and the prooerty overall was super clean. The breakfast was great, and the rooftop restaurant had a very comfortable and relaxed space to hang out. Staff were super helpful, and I'd highly recommended for solo travellers.

The only issue i had was that the ensuite bathroom in the room I stayed in an 8-bed female dorm was not pleasant. A very bad odour was seeping into the bedroom from the bathroom, and no ventilation despite us opening the window to remove smell - very unpleasant.

I really liked the location and design of the hostel. The staff was very friendly as well and always ready to help. Rooms were clean, nice and private; I loved he curtians all the beds are provided with.

The showers are very narrow and there's only an overhead shower in each one which makes it a little uncomfortable. I also think that the bathrooms should be provided with more shelves and places to put/hang your stuff.

The property was very clean and close to the plaza mayor in the heart of the city

The only complaint I have is that the restrooms for men were somewhat far from my room on the 1st floor.

The location is fantastic right in the middle of everything! The staff were phenomenal. They have daily free walking tours and a sangria work shop. People are really friendly, helpful and respectful.

It could get a little loud which is to be expected (with hostel accommodations), next time if I stay at the the Hat I would book a private room. It was hard to find quiet spaces.

Fabulous,funky hostel with clean sheets/pillows/duvet & sturdy cabin bunks complete with curtain,shelves,hooks,light, phone holder and plus socket each. Huge drawer under bunk fit a weekend case , all hand luggage bags ,water bottle plus shopping from the markets! We were in a 6 bed dorm with a shower & toilet.You swipe into your floor and then into your room so feel v safe plus always a member of the super friendly,fun staff in lobby( which has a bar,sofas and even a DJ on Saturday night!). The Cellar communal area for fridge, eating etc & Hat organises nightly sangria making or late visits to local bars to help you meet new friends. Amazing roof top bar/cafe with views ,feels like it belongs in a hotel not a hostel .It's part covered with a little fire for chillier morning breakfasts, then has sofas or seating for cheese and wine in the sunshine. Very friendly, attentive, responsive staff - a credit to the Hat💖. Incredible location we walked everywhere except took the metro to Retino park( but walked back). Thankyou for such a special stay.

I love it.. even sharing in 10 bed dormitory but its very spacious.The toilets and the bathroom are very clean.Good value for money with good location and great staff.For sure will stay there in future and recommend to others.

Our bedroom was right above the entrance window and between the 4am street cleaning, trash pickup, and people partying, it was super loud.

Excellent location and very friendly staff! The 6-bed female dorm was clean and comfortable, with its own bathroom and hot water. I am overall happy with my decision to book a bed here.

I wish there were towels provided or maybe tissues in the bathroom; it was a bit unpleasant to dry hands and face with a toilet paper. As a solo traveler, I was expecting to socialise a little at the rooftop bar, but I found out it was almost entirely reserved for a private birthday celebration

the STAFF. Friendly, warm, upbeat, kind, and a sense of humor. A special shout out to Gorka for his attitude and kindness (and humor). the common areas. comfortable, inviting. the bed. comfortable, clean linens, layout gives privacy in a fairly tight space. Would have liked a blanket, though.

The room (a six-person dorm) was a little small. It is hard for more than one person to do anything in the room but lie on the beds. Mornings were a bit crammed, but roommates were all muy genial and we worked out dressing and packing together.

Un pocito caluroso y ruidoso, pero en general un gran lugar!

Staff were lovely, the terrace had a nice atmosphere, and the hostel was clean, modern, and well equipped. The location is excellent, with everything within easy walking distance.

While the terrace has a good vibe, it wasn’t the easiest place to meet people as most guests tended to sit at separate tables.

The staff is amazing, very friendly, and ready to help. The location is good, and the premises are always clean. They also promote events in the hostel to do the travellers to know each other. The room has a good AC.

There is nothing to complain about.

Great location just around the corner from Plaza Mayor. Nice rooftop bar. Decent breakfast. En-suite bathrooms were great.

It was a little warm when I arrived but the AC kicked in around 10 pm. My bed was right below the AC, so I got very cold with just a sheet.

Very central and close to everything. Common spaces were great. Loved the rooftop! I also liked that my room had a little balcony.
