Hotel Lisboa, Macau

2-4 Avenida de Lisboa, Macau. (show on map)

Hotel Lisboa, established in 1970 by Dr. Stanley Ho, is a true legend in Macau’s history. As the original flagship property, it served as the face of the city’s gaming industry for decades, long before the massive modern resorts of today. Its architecture is a fascinating, eclectic blend of Portuguese and Chinese aesthetics, characterized by its distinctive rounded design and ornate, glittering interiors.

Stepping inside, you’ll find that the hotel doubles as a private gallery. It houses an extensive collection of art and antiques curated by Dr. Ho, featuring everything from intricate jade carvings to priceless porcelain. The lobby is a sight to behold, dripping in chandeliers and rich, traditional patterns that offer a sharp contrast to the ultra-modern skyscrapers that have risen around it.

For those who enjoy a side of history with their stay, the hotel is perfectly positioned. It is within easy walking distance of the UNESCO-listed historic center, including the bustling Senado Square and the iconic ruins of St. Paul’s. Whether you are exploring the narrow, colonial-style streets nearby or sampling world-famous Portuguese egg tarts from local bakeries, you are in the heart of Macau’s cultural heritage.

Beyond the classics, the hotel’s reputation for dining is legendary. It was the first establishment in China to earn the “Grand Award” from Wine Spectator, and its restaurants remain highly regarded. It provides a unique, nostalgic gateway into Macau’s past while keeping you connected to the vibrant energy of the modern city.

Expert reviews

Frommers review:

“Hotel Lisboa is a retro icon, a Chinese interpretation of ’60s Las Vegas—you’ll know it by the odd peacock-like decoration on its roof. You just can’t beat the Lisboa for atmosphere.”

Fodors review:

“In Macau’s infamous landmark, redolent with history and intrigue, labyrinthine hallways and salons display jade and artworks, and an ostentatiously gilded staircase leads to luxurious guest rooms with handcrafted furniture, lush drapes, gold-and-red accents, and whirlpool baths.”

Great location. Good Breakfast. Amazing Room Service. Value of Money.

The location is excellent. Many shops and restaurants on walking distance.
Plenty of breakfast options available.
Room service was good. Provided complimentary water and tea/coffee and never let the stock finished.

It was under renovation, so was a bit noisy.

If you like modern 5 star hotel, avoid it.

Good location, close to a few landmarks. Free shuttle bus. I liked historical artifacts, made me feel it is like a museum.

Too many exist and entrance, easy to get lost. The hotel needs be modernized whilst maintain some features that reflect its history. Breakfast is below expectations as 5 start hotel.

Move into the luxury of the past

Old fashion but with charm hotel. I feel like going back 50 years. It was interesting to see how people lived in hotels in 60'.

Huge family room, living like a king!

the family room is HUGE! there are 2 toilets and 2 rooms with a spacious sitting area. The toiltries are from Hermes and everything in the bar area is complimentary. Extra mineral water bottles and iron are provided upon requested. Excellent service. There is a connecting bridge to the new hotel Lisboa which is very convenient. walk to ruins st paul is about 15 mins. not too far as there are many shops to walk around. Hotel provides a free shuttle service to macau hong kong ferry terminal for our ferry out to hong kong.

nothing about the property but the bus driver that we took on 20 dec at around 1pm was terrible. when we board the bus, he shouted at us “hurry up! hurry up!” which is very rude. we have luggages and we loading up the bus but was shocked to get such treatment. he seems very angry throughout the journey and was driving fast and honking.

Vintage luxury built for yacht rock and walking around old Macau.

This is vintage (aged) luxury. Another review said everyone should stay here once, and I agree. Turn on some Fleetwood Mac, Steve Miller Band, or Steely Dan and enjoy it for what it is. Imagine what it felt like to be a baller in 1971. It’s not the Ritz but it’s got charm that the Ritz doesn’t have. Blackout curtains work well. Contrary to other reviews, the shower is really not that hard to figure out, especially if you’ve ever played a video game. Very walkable – great location just a few blocks from all the historic buildings. Nice, helpful staff. One night is enough.

Gym is the size of a HK hotel. Pool is the size of a HK noodle shop. The casino area is not so nice and kinda smells like instant noodles. Room could be a little less dusty.

Convenient location but unhelpful staff at the taxi stand

Would like to commend on one of the porter for making special arrangement for us via the hotel shuttle cos we missed the casino shuttle bus and thus wld miss the ferry at the terminal. Very pro-active.. tks lots

A lot of pro-active n helpful staff near the reception desk

Cos we had a wheelchair requirement for 1 of the occupant, upon arrival on the 13th dec, at the west entrance (taxi stand), there were few flight of steps which my cousin couldnt enter. When we asked the staff if theres another entrance without steps, none of the chinese staff at the door were helpful enough to show us. Instead juz told us dun hv, until a non-chinese staff took over and he was very nice to walk with us using another path. I rem b4 booking, i checked with the hotel if theres any flat entrance, he said there was. Seems only the non-chinese staff were sympathetic enough to help.

Check in waited for almost an hr

A clean, well maintained hotel with exceptional service staff ever present to assist.

Excellent location within walking distances to good food and attractions.
Hotel was well maintained, clean and everything worked.
Service staff were extremely helpful , with a shout out to Alex from Concierge and Beverly from customer service who arranged and provided everything we needed for a less abled elderly visitor. Thank you

Checking in system was extremely slow and a system upgrade is much needed.

Very comfortable stay. No complaints.

We were in the family suite which was a great size for a family of four.

It's a very minor issue, but the TVs were a bit dated and didn't have HDMI connection.

We will come back. We always have.

The breakfast buffet is very delicious and has a varied offer of both Asian and western dishes.
The Hotel building is like a maze and you have a good time trying to find your way around ll the corridors and stairways.

Can't think of anything.

I recommend this hotel for visitors due to its convenient location and staff kindness.

My family recently stayed at the hotel and the experience felt exclusive. The hotel is located directly in the heart of Macau being near many famous Macanese landmarks like the Senado Square and the Ruins of Saint Paul. There are also tons of great restaurants nearby. Also, we would like to thank receptionist Mr. Sam Leong for giving us an amazing room with a breath taking view.
The room was surprisingly clean and housekeeping was very helpful. Overall one of my best experiences.
