HI Hostel Santa Monica, Los Angeles

Very clean place and very friendly staff. This place is run very long time here and very good standard hostel method. No smoking, no alcohol, no drugs. There are 24/7 free coffee and hot water to have own drinks. Huge professional kitchen like real restaurant size. 10 huge refrigerator, stones, ovens etc… Located central Santa Monica, easy to walk to beach day and night. Nice to walk around residential area as well. Also they let me stay lobby area after check out to do some work with wifi and have drinks. Very friendly place to stay. No crazy drunken hostel peoples here. Safe to stay here with kids as well.

Nothing to say bad about this place.

The space was very comfortable, it's ideal if you travel alone and you don't mind sharing!

The rooms are very small for 4 people but if you have a lot of activities to do you won't be in the room other than to sleep

Noisy the first night we were there.

Breakfast is good and the place has an industrial kitchen and good common spaces, where people can hang out and talk.

I had problems with my flights and didn't arrive for the 1st night. The person on the front desk first said my reservation was cancelled, but he was going to see if could get me a bed to this other night. But then came a supervisor and the reservation was magically on and had to be paid full. It sounded dishonest. I didn't have a prpblem with paying, but the way they told me sounded like they were taking advantage.

Location, everything was very clean, good breakfast, helpful staff.

Close to the beach, bedside charging and lamp, organized activities at some days of the week, great location close to the beach.

The room had a bit of a slightly unpleasant, non-neutral smell. No privacy curtains on the bed

The dedication. Accessible. Help from the stuff. The warmth of the fireplace as well as this was the place to meet and talk to the people.

One can not not like when the lift is out of order. There must be something done about it. And it was.

Friendly, helpful staff and great atmosphere. Happily surprised that breakfast was included. Met lots of interesting people and enjoyed the public spaces. First time in a hostel and would definitely consider again. Location has super-close access to beach, restaurants, stores and the Santa Monica Pier.

Originally booked 4 nights but needed to cancel two of the them. It was within the stated guidelines, but the per-night rate on my remaining nights increased. Only other dislike was my bed...very loud every time I moved. Made me self-conscious so didn't sleep well.

It was quite simple with nice dining facilities and is modern. Plentiful social spaces. Shared bathrooms, but there was also a private bathroom with a shower in our room, which was nice Free breakfast was great with bagels, fruits, cereals, and free bottles of juice. Great location next to the pier and within walking distance of many nice places to eat and convenience stores. Clean bathrooms

Everything was great, place is well run, people are great, rooms are clean and good, bathing area is well maintained too, everyone has key access for security.

Just the beds could have had a curtain for privacy.

It’s kind of a facility problem which consecutively 2 days of no hot water to bath. Cold bath was quite suffering during the winter days in LA

Amazing location just down from the pier and beach with lots of shopping and restaurants nearby. Free breakfast was also good with a variety including cereal, bagels, fruit, coffee. The kitchen facilities were also very large with good quality modern appliances.

Did not read the no alcohol policy prior to arrival for new years stay, but that is entirely my own fault. Staff very kindly told me places I could go instead.

Probably the best hostel of hi hostel ive tried! Amazing location - for me the santa monica is the best place to stay in LA, also the staff, people were so nice. Everything was so clean and the best thing is a breakfest where you have many of options to eat. I very recommend !!

Well priced compared to alternatives. Excellent breakfast. Good options for rooms to relax / chat in. Fantastic central Santa Monica location. Clean bathrooms. Lockers in the rooms.

Beds were noisy. Ideally invest in non-sprung beds to keep the noise down.

Location was amazing, right in the heart of Santa Monica in a walking distance. Check-in was easy and breakfast was okay.

Bathrooms could be more clean and there was soap missing for taking a shower. As I expected there was soap I didn’t bring my own and once you are wet in the shower is difficult to get out to take it. They need to pay more attention to this. Also, I paid a fee for letting my luggages downstairs but it was between the check-out time, I got back to take them at 10:30am (check out is at 11am) I just didn’t want to let it all in the room, go back upstairs and disturb my roommates. Well, they will ask you to pay a fee anyways, no consideration at all.

Value for money, super clean and great staff. Breakfast was exceptional!

Crowd control can be improved. There were few loud and unpleasant travellers who didn't respect others. Also, the bedding was a tad bit uncomfortable

The hostel has awesome common areas, activities (although I was only there for one night so I couldn't attend), easy access to public transport via bus, and the location in Santa Monica is great.

They are now requiring people to show their state ID/driver's license, passports are not enough. I wasn't aware of this policy change and would have appreciated a heads up. This policy may only apply to Americans but I am unsure.
