Stayed at the hostel -- these rooms are lovely. Best part is, you get access to all of the hotel amenities.

The area with a fridge, water dispenser and microwave is in the basement, very cold, and only accessible by keycad. If you checkout and need to access food, you'll need the help of an employee.

Clean (but the bin wasn’t emptied every day). Professional (?) staff kinda distant (I guess they’re just doing business). Nice lobby (if you can tolerate the strong weed smell)

I’ve been staying at many shared rooms with bunker beds across different countries. First time happened to me that I booked a 4-female room (ofc intentionally) yet they put a male in…Well it wasn’t terrifying (the dude was friendly), but it was certainly not the kind of surprise any female was looking for (plus: they charge more for a bed in female quad)

Unfortunately I needed to be downtown for an appt. and although downtown LA is absolutely disgusting, smelling of urine and with feces smeared absolutely everywhere you look, and you must look down or you will step in it, the hotel was a decent price compared to other hotels downtown. It felt nice and safe with a hip vibe. I'm not a very hip person but it was kind of charming with a vintage feel. Staff was friendly, check-in was easy. The room is hip and artsy, comfortable bed, vintage but clean except for carpet.

Did I mention downtown LA is absolutely disgusting? It's I've never seen so much sh** in all my life. and I raised two babies. I walked ten minutes to my appt. and the entire walk wreaked of urine. There are working people and students walking around so it felt sort of safe during the day, but there are also a lot of homeless people, people high on drugs, and people screaming and arguing. While I was at my apartment there was screaming out outside in the streets and constant sirens. I could not wait to get out of there. Once you leave downtown LA is nice, beautiful rocky beaches, clean crisp water, mountains. The best thing about LA is driving away from it. The room was fine, but as usual hotel had carpet. For the love of God I will never understand carpet in the US. This is doesn't really exist in other country for obvious reasons. Carpet is a sponge for bacteria that you can never really clean. So naturally the carpet had stains and always carpet has an odor. I only hope, like smoking, it's a disgusting trend that will go away one day because ew. Imagine walking the streets of LA covered in feces and urine and then walking on that carpet. But most hotels will (mindblowing) also have carpet. I didn't even want to walk on it with socks. Still a better price and otherwise clean compared to the expensive hotels that will also have disgusting sponge floors. That's my honest opinion. I'm not holding back because somebody has to say it. Carpet makes zero sense and yes, I'm bitter about it.

Super nice staff, especially German speaking bro at reception gave a lot of good info. They have two Great bars, at the roof top and in the lobby.

Everything seemed almost too professional, receptionists sitting behind a glass wall, and there could have been some small events to connect travelers (like a cocktail class or something)

I enjoyed how each room had its own bathroom. The hostel experience is a pleasant one, meeting other solo travelers.

At night I'd grab a quick bite at a taco truck nearby and was unable to sit somewhere in the hostel. The best place I found was the stairs near the elevators, so maybe keeping the lobby open.

The room was great! It was well kept, great housekeeping staff I love the roof top bar, I was there all day everyday. The vibe, view and menu all are amazing. Great bartenders and waiting staff. The reception area is also beautiful and peaceful. Love the location as well, close to great eateries, cafes and bar. Very easy to commute using public transport. The bar across is amazing as well.

The lobby right outside the elevator and stairway smelled like cannabis all the time. The lobby on the floors smelled funky too, wasn't such an issue because one just has to pass by but I feel it is something that can be worked on

Amazing location, very close to metro, very close to whole foods and walking distance from Target.

Snoring was a bit bothering at night, and other people nightlight can light up the rest of the room.

Loved the vibes of the hotel as a whole. Location was great. We were able to walk everywhere we needed to go. The staff was also very friendly. The sunset from the rooftop bar was top tier.

Parking was expensive. That must have been in the very fine print. The bed was not comfortable for me, but my husband didn't have any complaints.

I like that staff always ready to help any issue, that I had.

I loved my room, it was so cozy and beautifully decorated. Can't wait to return to this hotel in the future. Also, the cafe area was very warm and felt homey.

The WiFi wasn't working for most of the time I was staying there - shouldn't be a problem generally but made my stay a little difficult as I had to work remotely.

Room on lower floor is subject to a lot of noise. Since the windows don't fully close a lot of air comes in as well. Lots of weed smokers in the street so you smell this in the room as well. I can imagine higher floors don't have this issue. If you come for the rooftop, it is open from 12PM to 10.30PM, and closes during the rain.

We had some issues with the invoice, but in the end they managed to provide it. I appreciated that they actually tried to solve the problem instead of simply saying it wasn’t possible. The property is nice overall. The bar often had issues, so we couldn’t always use it, but the location is fairly good.

The staff was very nice.

No parking so you either have to valet for $61/night or park in the nearby parking garage for $35/night. The property does have security because it is surrounded by a lot of homelessness. The main marketing point of this hotel is the rooftop bar and pool but it was closed the entire time I stayed. (The bar is the only reason I stayed at this hotel)

Cool vibe and large rooms. We were able to get into our room at 2pm which was great as we were very jet lagged. Great location if you are going to an event at crypto.com arena.

We were on the 2nd floor (1st floor outside of the US) and there was a fair bit of road noise. The blinds also didn’t block light that well so on the whole it was not a great sleep.

Location while convenient is pretty sketchy, I wouldn't walk those streets at night for sure. No drinking water in the room. Pool hours pretty limited. Advertised free coffee isn't available.

Freehand Los Angeles is a beautiful hotel in an old historical building in downtown Los Angeles. My partner and I had a marvellous one-night stay. Everything about it was worth raving about: the location, the room, the bed, the bathroom, the shower, the furniture, the decoration, the rooftop pool, the gym, the canteen, and the staff. Our room was on the fifth floor, and it was not noisy at night, and we had a good night's sleep. The rooftop pool was so nice to chill at during the day and definitely worth to have a drink by during the night. There is a Shake Shack and a Whole Foods downstairs, and there are also quite a few street vendors to get food from. There were homeless people in the neighbourhood, but we didn't feel unsafe because they all kept a respectful distance. The nearest tube station was 10 minutes away by foot, and had interesting Hollywood style super villian art that my partner and I both enjoyed.

The taco truck light was shining through the window at night, and the blinds were not sufficient enough to block all of it, as light was still seeping through around the parameters of the blinds. The window side couch area was big and comfortable, but it would have been more convenient to have a table on the couch to dine at, as we had to be careful to not stain the cushions while we ate by the window. There was a hairdryer in the room but it was broken. Since I brought my own hairdryer, I didn't bother to call reception at night, but I did let them know at checkout and they were thankful and said they would fix it.

The rooftop was constantly booked for meetings or birthdays by external guests making it impossible to hotel guest to have access to it, which is a bit of a shame unfortunately.

The rooms most always are messy due to the luggage spread throughout the area. I know it can't be helped BUT?

Clearly the price is fine. Hotel is fine and so is the service

I liked that we each had our own space with a plug and light per each space. I liked that a key card was necessary for the elevators. It gave me a better sense of security.

There were no drinking cups. We had to buy a bottle of water. There were many spaces between the curtains making it hard to sleep with all the light flooding in all night long.

The double room was really spacious and comfortable, the staff was very kind and helpful, and the hotel vibe is really nice too ;)

You have to expect it, being Downtown, but it's always pretty noisy. I slept with earplugs and it was actually ok !

The room was comfortable and clean. The amenities are nice and the shower products smell good. The bed and sheets are comfy. The appearance of the hotel is stylish and the restaurants, bar, and store downstairs are unique. The staff is friendly and super helpful.

The drinks on the rooftop bars are too expensive but the service is good and the view is amazing.
