The Ivens Hotel, Lisbon

It is a beautifully decorated & well functioning hotel. The Staff was extraordinarily friendly, helpful & efficient. The restaurants Rocco, Crudo Bar & Gastro Bar, all in connection with each other, were absolutely nice, again beautifully designed, efficiently staffed, & with exciting & even delicious menues & very skilled sommeliers. If you want to go for the Italian part of the menu then be aware that it would more precise to name it the American-Italian menu.

We occupied a very smart very comfortable big bedroom, where everything functioned as intended. The smart design with a huge king size bed in the middle of the room only had the disadvantage that the breakfast trolley couldn’t pass it, & had to remain in the entrance of the room.

It never ceases to amaze me to arrive and stay at the Ivens hotel. The experience, the surroundings, the rooms, the staff... Nothing fails! Thanks Ivens Hotel :)

My husband and I stayed at the Ivens Autograph in Lisbon for four days and while we very much enjoyed it, we had mixed feelings.  We've stayed at many hotels and resorts all around the world and I usually don't review them but there were several aspects of our hotel that we wished we had known beforehand so I will share here with others.  I was a bit shocked at all of the 5 star reviews but maybe they did not stay in our room (404) because the other rooms in the photos look better.  Let me start with the positives! Hotel lobby and staff: Amazing decor!  Wonderful concierge and door staff - so kind and helpful!!  We sat in the lobby numerous times testing out all the different nooks and chairs - very well done!  And the smell, wow, takes you to a botanical garden! Rocco restaurant: The restaurant attached to the lobby of the hotel was also amazing.  Unique decor, trendy, delicious food, great service - and we are from Manhattan with many great restaurants and we were still very impressed.  Loved the dj too, pretty cool to have such "action" on a Monday night.  Fun weekend feeling every night!  .Location: Central, good.  But be prepared to walk up and down hills on (sometimes slippery) cobblestone - so ladies wear flat shoes with traction!  The street itself is nothing special.  Check out the ceramics store across the street, gorgeous pieces. We had a nice time but for this level and price there were more disappointments than expected.  I know you cannot change the room size in this old historic building.  My advice: dig into those pockets and decorate the bedroom walls in the same theme as the rest of the hotel, add some shelves and hooks to the bathrooms, and consider changing room 404 to a queen bed (if you offer that).  5 stars for the positives,  3 stars for the negatives, so giving it a 4 star review. :)  Next stop: Algarve!

Room:Size: T I N Y.  Did I say TINY?  Yesss.  And like I said, we are from NYC so we are used to small spaces.  There was room for one suitcase but the other - good luck.  Time to battle it out with your spouse for prime floor real estate!  My suitcase was one that opens into two halves (ok, large I know but I just had the one) and this took up the entire floor space on the side of my bed.  Can't count how many times my foot ended up in my suitcase when trying to get out of bed.  And there were small chairs and tables at the foot of the bed which we never used, because, you guessed it - they were covered in our other bags/carry ons etc.  So cramped.  Closet didn't have much space either.  Maybe if you are a solo traveler it would be fine but for a couple with a decent amount of luggage on a European vacation for over one week it was not comfortable.  And this was not a low tier room.  This was a room we paid extra to have a balcony.  On that note, this balcony door was the only window in our room and since it was past the foot of the bed you could basically not see anything out of the room unless you stepped into the balcony alcove.  Otherwise you would just look at the walls.  Which brings me to my next point...Decor: Did a small earthquake shake the Ivens hotel so that all of the decor and artwork slid down the walls to land in the lobby and restaurant?  Why is the main level so beautifully decorated with paintings, colors, lights, etc and the interior of the bedroom had barely anything?  Behind the bed was a lovely large tapestry but since the only place to sit in the room (remember: chairs covered with stuff!) was on the bed with your back facing the headboard you basically looked at 3 white walls, a white ceiling, and no outdoor view.. but at least there was a quirky yellow bug sculpture on the wall.  I expected more from such a fancy hotel at the price we paid.  But again, maybe this was just our room, lucky 404!

Great location, close to fantastic Michelin star restaurants and Bib Gourmand restaurants. I loved the daily times the turn down service would provide along with excellent snacks.

Somehow I couldn’t use my master card to secure the booking and even to pay, was very strange and inconvenient since everywhere else in the city I could have used it. But the reception handled the issue gently but still it was inconvenient…

Very friendly and professional. We enjoyed 4 nights without any discomforts. Nice restaurant and breakfast included option was worth enough. Thank you Ivens (;D

Probably the Best 5 stars Hotel in Lisbon. Location, Service, Glamour and a Great Experience in an amazing Hotel Atmosphere. we a couple of great cocktails in Rocco, the Restaurant. We´ll be back as soon as possible.

Great place! Everyone was super helpful and actually nice, what is hard to find. Room was amazing with a view to the bridge and tejo.

This was hands down a 5 star elegant experience in the heart of Lisbon, from check in to check out everything was beautiful. our favorite stay on our trip to Portugal!

Our only negative was a bit of weirdness at the restaurant with sitting at the bar when it was completely empty with 25 chairs open asking us for reservations. We felt the staff in the bar restaurant was a little rude at times considering we were staying at the hotel. But the place itself was otherwise magnificent.

Very comfortable and well appointed room. Breakfast was over the top. Most competent and nice staff I´ve seen.

Location is perfect. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Everything you’d expect from a 5 star hotel.

The street noise was noticeable and eventually had to sleep with ear plugs.

This was a SUPERB stay. The location is super central to all the main shops, the hotel is very well decorated, and the rooms are very cozy. The rooms are silent and the blinds completely black out. The bed and sheets are very comfortable and we slept very well. The breakfast is VERY high quality. It's all made in an open kitchen and you can see the chefs cooking your meal. They had an amazing bread and seasonal pressed juices, the toasts and omelettes are "a must". The staff was super kind. PS: They have the BEST toilet in Lisbon. Ask where is the toilet either in the lobby or the restaurant, you won't be disappointed.

Amazing decoration, service and overall atmosphere. Perfect match with Rocco. After a fabulous dinner we spent nearly the whole morning enjoying a delicious breakfast.

Exception breakfast buffet and menu items. Beautiful decor, attentive staff. Great location, close to what you’ll want to see, but on a quiet corner. Adventurer theme is a welcome touch and fits with Portugal history.

No negatives. Included breakfast was top notch and exceeded our expectations.

Beautiful design & decor. One of the best bars architecturally speaking. Rocco, a 5 star restaurant on the premises & wonderful full breakfast in the morning. Valet parking was a plus. Centrally located to good restaurants, shopping & sights within walking distance. This hotel is stunning in an elegant, whimsical 'British Khaki' sort of way.

The Ivens is simply amazing! what a discovery in Lisbon right at center of everything. incredible staff, amazing decor and rooms and the F&B scene is really something you shouldn’t exclude from your stay there. great vibe!

Room Service came at 7.15 to do the turn down and we asked her to come back at 7.45 as she said she would but did not. We had a meal in the Rocco but it was not that good. The room was too small.

The hotel has an excellent staff with very new, well-maintained rooms. The restaurant and bar facilities are top-notch. The location is perfect for seeing Lisbon.

First of all the service of the receptionists was beyond expected, they were very welcoming. In terms of design and decoration the hotel is on another league, the attention to detail and the good taste really stand out. The room itself had a good space and the beds super comfortable. To sum up I would recommend anybody to stay at this hotel, for sure they will have a lovely stay.

we loved the uniqueness of the hotel, especially the cocktail bar.

Loved the African themed decor and the interiors throughout was amazing. The bar had great vibes and full of character. The food was also excellent with a great choice. Good location in the Chiado area.

Very disappointed with the service. Especially the Restaurant staff. Had to wait nearly one hour to get breakfast one day and the staff was quite rude when I complained. Although the bar is a great place, which we visited every day of our stay in the evenings, it was very difficult to get seating since it is well patronised by outsiders. They do not have any special consideration for the in-house guests. Once again, the service was very poor. For instance, when we asked for some olives, we were told that they couldn't supply it as they didn't have enough containers to serve it!

Top location; great feel & touch; very tasty breakfast; friendly and helpful team. Surely visionary management! We will surely come back very soon.

Exceptional (and I mean truly exceptional) customer service. Beautifully designed giving you all the feel of a top class 5* hotel, but with a sense of fun and intrigue. Location is fantastic - middle of BA but just off main road so quieter. Rooms are enormously well equipped. Provide daily treats (eg chocolate truffles) and tips/recommendations for things to do and explore. Managed to get us a reservation at an exclusive and fully booked restaurant. Simply cannot fault it. One of - possible the - best hotels I have stayed in

The staff are wonderful - they are professional, make everything smooth and are extremely welcoming. The decor of the hotel is beautiful, there’s such attention to detail in all the finishes, the books, the artwork in the rooms and along the halls. The restaurant (Rocco) had great service, food and the Negroni was the best I’ve had!

Our room was quite small, and unfortunately we couldn’t quite get the air conditioning working so it was a little stuffy and warm. This wasn’t something we had time to raise with the hotel team as I’m sure if we did - it would have been addressed and solved.
