The location was perfect and the room was gorgeous and clean.

The lost and found isn't accessible 24/7. I left my coat and couldn't get it before my flight because the cleaning staff has the key instead of the property.

Really cute! Doors lock with cards. Staff was very helpfull.

Bathrooms could have been more clean. Our room was right over the restaurant, and our towels on our bed smelled like BBQ at the end of the day. The restaurant was very loud.

Everything. The location, the bed, the breakfast. It just perfect! It does feels like home away.

The elevator could be upgraded and the kitchen could be frequently clean.

The bathroom really needs an overall, very poor lighting and the shower flooded. I complained after the first night, but there was no difference the next day. Also there were cockroaches that came out of the drain whilst showering and others in the room

We did make a reservation for two beds in a 6 shared room and were given the beds in a 9 shared room. We did request for a change but it never happened, did request for a reimbursement that we will receive later, thanks for that! Room was very noisy, hard to have a full quiet night! Bathroom not very clean, water accumulating in the shower floor.

Lovely spot! Neat old facility. Beds were great, staff was wonderful and great roof top bar. It is located in a vibrant neighborhood but nothing that kept us from getting a good nights rest.

Location is incredible! The hostel has some great communal spaces. Plenty of showers available, so never a queue.

Area was fantastic, near lots of pubs and restaurants as well as shops. Staff were welcoming and helpful, the room was beautiful and the ceilings were huge! really recommend. The rooms are in a separate building to the hostels so it’s quieter than you’d expect

Air con was broken so it was cold, noisy at night on the weekends since it’s near the bars but no issues in the week

The hotel has a great location, nice decor and friendly staff, especially Lourdes, the breakfast-lady.

Price of a suite is very high in relation to quality. Lots of noise at Night, poor lighting in the room, breakfastbuffet too simple for the price we paid.

They should have more regulation regarding age of people staying at the hostel like other hostels do. They allow people +45 to stay which was weird to me considering girls on they’re 18-19 normally stay.

The hostel had a charming vintage style, which I really liked. The location was great, and the breakfast was excellent. The woman working in the kitchen was especially kind and funny — I liked her a lot. The room was nice, and the bed was very comfy. Overall, it was a very good experience.

WIFI - sometimes it worked, sometimes not... and I didn’t know I needed to bring my own lock for the locker — I expected one to be provided at the hostel, so that was a bit disappointing...

The showers/bathroom has a sewage smell. They do clean them regularly but the smell comes back quickly

The location is good in the center. The breakfast is really good, especially for a hostel. I found the hostel a bit expensive for the quality of the room and bathroom. 3 bunk beds on each other are not ideal, since they were also squeaky. The showers were in seperate room with only curtains. The toilets seemed to be a bit broken and small. It's not well isolated so you easily hear quite easily the noise from the surrounding bars.

The beds didn’t have individual curtains so no intimacy which was a bit weird, especially in mixed dormitories… Bathrooms are a bit small but it’s fine it wasn’t too crowded at the hours I needed to use them

Location, breakfast and staff were very good.

The beds were wooden and made a lot of noise because they were 3 floors. There was no chair or armchair to sit in the room. Toilets and showers were small. after the toilets were cleaned, someone locked the doors and everyone had to use one toilet. :)

Very interesting interior style - quirky. Lovely rooftop dining for breakfast. Cosy bar area for evenings downstairs and excellent location on the bustling Mirador. Staff are friendly and helpful.

I like the location although a little bit noisy despite closing the windows (no wonder they provided ear plugs). Breakfast is served in the adjoining building, decent though the same choices for the 4 days we stayed.

The outdated luggage elevator wasn’t working so we have to carry our luggages upon checking out. This hotel isn’t for those who have mobility issues because the elevator is only supposed to be for luggages.

My third stay and I like this place very much. First it is very well located right in the center of Lisbon and second the house is very nice, kind of old mansion with very high ceilings and big staircases. It's clean, there is a pleasant atmosphere and staff is super friendly. What else?

Only point: they should mention that you need a locker to secure your goods when you stay in the "Youth Hostel" rooms. Once you know, you just bring one along, nothing bulky.

The location is very good, it is walking distance to many nice places including Principe Real, Botanical Garden, Chiado,Bairro alto, also just in front Time Out market, many nice restaurants and bars etc. Also just in front of the hotel there is a bus stop and also trams stop by. The room was cleaned daily, had high ceilings and felt spacy. The bed was comfortable. the breakfast was nice. The lady working during breakfast was very friendly and had a nice energy.

I had a private room in the next building. Internet in the room was not very reliable. The room needed renovation, had kind of old, dirty rugs and old furniture. And also when you entered the room, there was a diffenrence in the level of the floor which i found dangerous( Especially at night, you could easily fall down, you can find the photo of this) The AC( heater) in the toom was very old, did not work well in the first days due to central heating. The room i booked had 2 windows in the photo amd looked bigger, the room i got had 1 window.

The fact that staff is extremely loud! They are used to having the guests be loud in the restaurant till late every night people drink a lot here at night. And the staff screams and yells even louder then the guests

The location is perfect-no doubt!but when you get a bed in one of the rooms next to the street its nearly impossible to sleep…

I was staying in this hostel for years now but everytime i come back it feels like its getting more and more run down(and the prices of course are getting higher and higher in exchange)-sad but true fact

No kettle in en suite room for hot drinks, street facing room was a bit noisy until midnight from nearby buskers etc, although earbuds were provided.

Nicely located, beautiful building, good breakfast. The reception personnel was friendly and helpful. There is luggage storage available.

Th elevator was broken, the WIFI didn't work in the upper floors where the rooms were located. The cleanliness of the bathroom/showers could be optimised. Because of the location it will be noisy at night, so oropax are recommended.

My fifth stay at Independente, so I know what to expect and keep coming back! It's gotten so popular, but the staff are as warm as always. They were also so quick to help out and even make up the sofabed that I hadn't warned them I needed.

Was a bit saddened to hear the rooftop was shut for the season. Made the mistake of going to breakfast right at 8 am and honestly, it's such a popular hotel now that breakfast is heaving then (and some of the other guests were a touch inconsiderate, blocking pathways and such). Walked by breakfast at 9 am and it was as peaceful as could be!

Location is incredible, close to one of the nicest lookouts in Lisbon and a short walk to most things you would need, and plenty of the popular sites. Rooms are clean. Breakfast is really nice, and the restaurant area downstairs is good.

The stairs going up to the three storey bunks feel a little awkward. The shared showers and toilet cubicles are a little small as well. Whilst there is a small bar downstairs and common room upstairs, the hostel doesn't necessarily facilitate social activities, or have an overly social vibe at all times.

Lovely and helpful staff members, always ready to help. The breakfast was lovely and a great added bonus. The rooms were spacious and well equipped and the communal kitchen area and living area was clean and light. I would definetly stay again.

The kitchen area was not open until 9 which was a shame if you wanted to have an early breakfast but otherwise no complaints.

The location was super, lots around for restaurants etc. Easy to get everywhere. The character of the building was absolutely charming and the reason we picked it. We did not want something we can get everywhere. Great staff and breakfast too.

The room on the top floor was large but much of it was under a slanted roof so if you are very tall, that makes it a bit unusable. But we were barely there so did not mind.

Staff were welcoming and helpful, always. The woman that greets you at breakfast is irreplaceable. I love her! The building interiors are quite lovely.

Street noise. The musician in the mirador across the street playing the same things over and over and over. Stop amplification of these street musicians everywhere. Let them play un-amplified.
