Pestana Palace Hotel, Lisbon

We really liked the decor and the service was incredible in the hotel. Especially at breakfast. The only thing we would have liked is if it was verbally acknowledged we were on our honeymoon. We had natas in our room and I had said it would be our honeymoon but there was no by staff said congratulations. I understand that it may not have been known by many but I had mentioned in the booking. We had a brilliant time and was great to stay in luxury ☺️

Wonderful Great staff Clean and good value for money

I booked Pestana Palace Lisboa for my birthday stay, which is always a special trip for me. I take one every year and usually have an amazing experience. However, this year was quite disappointing due to the service. The hotel itself is undeniably beautiful—it feels like stepping into a fairytale. However, the staff was not particularly helpful, nor did they acknowledge my birthday without being reminded, despite my informing them about the occasion before my arrival. Although I understand that the hotel was near full capacity due to a half marathon and could not offer a complimentary room upgrade (which is usually standard), I was promised a cake and sparkling wine in my room—yet neither was there upon arrival. When I inquired about it the next morning, I was told they simply didn’t have it. Eventually, a cake was presented after dinner at their restaurant, but the surprise was spoiled as the cutlery was brought out beforehand, after we had already asked for the bill and the table had been cleared. Additionally, there was no complimentary welcome drink upon arrival at the restaurant, and what disappointed me the most was that there was no acknowledgment of my birthday in the room—no cake, no sparkling wine, no flowers, not even a simple birthday card. This lack of attention to detail made it the most underwhelming hotel experience I’ve had in a long time. In fact, I’ve received better treatment in four-star hotels. Looking back, I still feel disappointed.

On top of this, the hotel was not as quiet as I expected from a five-star establishment. As a light sleeper, I was surprised that they did not have earplugs available upon request—a basic amenity in many luxury hotels. The first night was quite uncomfortable due to the noise, and I had to go out and buy my own earplugs for the rest of my stay. At this level of hospitality, I would have expected some noise cancellation options to be readily available. To add to the frustration, the staff was neither cheerful nor congratulatory on my special day, making the experience feel plain and impersonal. Before I left, a highly apologetic manager approached me, offering a drink at the bar or "the best they could do for me" on my next visit to one of their hotels. Unfortunately, vague promises like that don’t hold much value—vouchers or tangible compensation would have been more meaningful. To top it all off, a significant sum of money was frozen in my account for almost two weeks, even though we had covered all charges with another card. I had to go back and forth with emails to resolve the issue, which is not the kind of hassle I expect from a five-star hotel. Overall, while the hotel’s aesthetics are stunning, I would not recommend it for special occasions due to the lack of attention to detail, poor service, and insufficient amenities for a truly comfortable stay.

- No value for money (overall) - Limited menu for room service - Even water bottle is charged (despite nearly €200 per night tariff) - One odd staff (male) in the restaurant during breakfast service who wasn’t too service oriented

This was an outstanding stay in a beautiful hotel that was formerly a stately home belonging to one of Portugal's richest families - and it's been lovingly converted into a wonderful place to stay. The two of us stayed for two nights (three days) and among the things that we loved were: * We checked in very early (before midday) but the staff found us a room - nothing was too much trouble for them! They were so friendly and helpful! * The spa and swimming pool was lovely to use (the weather was a bit rainy) * The reception rooms are amazing and we loved eating our meals including breakfast there * The breakfast was fabulous - I counted 122 different items to eat!! And I've never had a latte before where the coffee, milk and foam come layered (see photo) * The bedroom was very comfortable indeed * We had a Nespresso machine in our room - including decaff capsules * I actually found the whole history of the Pestana Palace absorbing and there's a book in the room which tells the story of the Pestana hotel group including how the founder bought and did up the Pestana Palace - I read most of it! * The views over the tropical garden were lovely * Although it is kind of between areas (Belem is to the west and the centre is to the east) there are lots of buses right on the doorstep so travelling around was no problem whatsover - we got a Lisbon Card and were very happy with our choice * The staff were so friendly and nothing was too much problem Overall, even though it was such an upmarket place, it didn't feel stuffy or starchy. It was relaxed and friendly and we were super comfortable. Highly recommended. We'll be back!

The only thing was that the sauna and steam room could have been hotter. A very minor thing indeed in the wider scheme of things!

Great stay at Pestana Palace. The room was clean and comfortable and the staff was very friendly. Breakfast was delicious with a good variety. Overall, it was a great experience and would definitely stay again.

A hotel to relax and enjoy the facilities before head off home . Set on the hills of Alcantara with brilliant views of Rio Tejo . Breakfast fantastic , great selection . Ricardo makes good omelettes well cooked. Just be patient with him but worth the wait . Staff amazing .Pestana brand is best hotel for hospitality in Europe and internationally on pa with Taj hotel group . Amazing staff that helped us feel welcome : David Barbosa , Rita , Santos , Luke Cain. . I used the swimming pool , good gym facilities and Sauna . Valet car service good little pricey. I would come back and stay again

Although the hotel has historic setting the bedrooms too . It feels nice but the carpets needs a good wash and if you sensitive to dust would will feel it . My advice is to replace carpet in room with wooden flooring . Easier to clean the dust . You will feel this after a few days and cough a lot .

My favourite hotel in lisbon , it’s a stunning palace, the staff are so accommodating. I have been 3 times with my daughters.

Exceptional property. Top of the hill location. Far away enough from the city for quietness. Beautiful breakfast area. Proper palace feeling. The swimming pool is warm. Staff are kind and considerate. When booking, do take garden rooms. I had no noise. Some colleagues did have some noise and had streetfacing rooms.

Exceptional property. Feels like staying in a proper fairytale palace. Mind you, the renovation dates back from the ‘90s so some of the paint is chipped, some stuff looks a bit dated. Hardly a negative.

Lay out location and facilities were excellent.

Rooms were noisy, very little insulation.

Historical buildings, many big and little things to admire like furniture or pictures, glorious bathroom, nice park and birds singing even in January.

People after knocking used the key to enter while I was in a bath, that was a bit vexing, although complementary pastels were appreciated

Room was too cold when we called room service some one came and checked AC but it was not helpful we were freezing all 5 night of our stay until morning i was using hair dryer to make my kids warm in the room!! it is very disappointing when you pay around 2500 dhs per night and you can't sleep because hotel doesn't have heaters . And also there is not enough light in the room

I loved that the hotel is a palace—it has a unique and luxurious feel. The location is excellent, making it easy to get around and explore the area. The cleanliness of the property was impressive, and the staff were very friendly and professional. The rooms are spacious, which made the stay even more comfortable.

The lighting in the room was a bit dim, which made it slightly inconvenient at times. The walls between the rooms were quite thin, The walls between the rooms are very thin, which caused some issues with the guests in the neighboring room who were light sleepers. Even normal conversations could be heard easily without playing music or anything loud. This meant you had to whisper to avoid disturbing them, which was quite inconvenient for me and became an issue during my stay. Additionally, there was one staff member whose attitude was not very pleasant. However, the management handled the situation professionally and sent me an apology email, which I truly appreciated.

The palatial well preserved rooms, the superb breakfast, the friendly staff, the gardens, private New Year’s Eve fireworks in the gardens, the location in a less touristy and more authentic Lisbon area with a view of the iconic mini Golden Gate bridge

Freezing cold in hallways, passageways between different parts of the hotel, New Year’s Eve event food with fine dining ingredients but not fine dining quality, no kettle in the rooms to make tea (but a Nespresso machine), poor sauna area (tiny for number of rooms in hotel)

Beautiful main building from entrance to every room. Clean room with the best of towels in Portugal. Beautiful garden with alot of interesting plants.

So many options of breakfast but not warm enough for cooking and too weak and too cold of coffee. But staff very nice and kind to make me a better coffee later. Dinner is beautiful and testy but too cold when arrive at the table.

The breakfast was exceptional, the crew was too. The room was dark.

Unbelievable experience ! We felt very spoilt. Waking up in the morning, watching the sunrise overlooking the beautiful manicured gardens was my highlight. Having breakfast in the most beautiful setting was amazing. All the facilities in the hotel are fantastic. Highly recommend this place. I will be back !

Nothing to complain about

Quite probably the fanciest place we have ever stayed. Though all but the suites are outside the palace itself, the breakfast/dining room is inside as well as bar and many rooms to relax and enjoy the grandeur. Staff phenomenally attentive and kind. Bed was superb. Handy for congress centre and can walk to Belem but a wee way out from centre of city for most tourist activities.

Hotel had great character. great service . Lovely breakfast and ambience.

Beautiful building and excellent location. The gardens are splendid. I particularly liked the sustained glass in the hallways. Excellent breakfast with very good fruit.

The lighting in the room was very dim and I had to ask for more lamps. Also the switches and sockets were not in the right places so it was difficult to charge everything.

It was a lovely palace with all the splendour you would expect. The very helpful bellman walked us to the room and gave a little tour of the hotel and showed us the original impressive features. The rooms were nice, I would say there are a couple of areas in which the rooms are now staring to show their age. The cakes and bottle of port were a nice touch. The room had a lovely balcony.

The bar food menu was too short at night, and the bar staff top long to attend to us. The tv was a little hard to understand which channels were jn English. The room service could not be ordered via the smart tv, which was a bit odd. In the end I phoned up to do it.

The Palace part of the facility was superb. The rooms were very nice, but not overwhelming. The terraces off some of the rooms needed gardening & the close proximity to other terraces offered no privacy.

Absolutely loved our stay, we felt like royalty, enjoying all the beautifully restored palace rooms, history and luxury. The staff were exceptional, so proud of the hotel. A lovely staff member, Rui, was setting up for dinner but stopped and took the time to show us the hotel with such pride & made us feel so important. The bed was very comfy & room was spacious. I would not be able to stay anywhere else in Lisbon when I return.

The lighting in the room wasn’t acceptable especially when you need to apply make up!! The coffee, milk and bottled water wasn’t replaced daily so we had to make a call each day asking for replacements.

Incredible venue and exceptional staff made our stay an absolute delight! The wonderful beds and top breakfast on the terrace were the highlights along with the super swimming pool. Nothing was too much trouble for every single one of the staff. There is nothing to fault here in fact so much to love!
