Expert reviews

Frommers review:

“This 12-story hotel in the heart of the leafy Museum District offers some of the splashiest digs in town, suitable for rock stars, escapist vacationers, and business travelers with time to play. The Magnificent Seven are ultra-swanky themed suites.”

Featured as Frommer’s Choice in Houston.

Fodors review:

“Think taxidermy, chandeliers, prints on prints on prints, video walls, a pool area that rivals Vegas casinos, and lots of lacquer. It can come across as trying too hard, but there’s nothing else like it in the city.”

Featured as Fodor’s Choice in Houston.

Incredible bathroom, spa, and others

It’s said that the standard of a hotel is judged through its bathroom. On this matter, Hotel ZaZa is simply amazing, being enriched with nice colorful marbles. The standard of food served here is of an excellent standard. There is a high-end spa with all advanced features, called ZaSpa. The service team here is thoroughly dedicated. They are available to address the queries of visitors very well. The morning tea and coffee offered to visitors is very good, while breakfast is also superb.

Swimming pool, sports facilities, etc.

Talking about the other aspects, there is a swimming pool, track to walk, yoga junction, gym, etc. However, the best part about the hotel is indeed its service. Great hotel, nice staff, amazing spa

I loved the facilities, cleanliness and location of the hotel, as well as the kindness of the people that works there. They are professional and attentive to the needs of their guests.

The car that they offer to move around is not always available. They ask to be 30 min before waiting to ensure the ride, but since it only covers places nearby, maybe they could have more than 2 of them to ensure comfort of their guests. Each time, even 30 min before I had to take an uber because it was super complicated to ensure a ride. Also, there's no available staff in the pool since very early in the day. By 17:00 hrs the bar was closed and there was no one available to ask for anything. I noticed three couples concerned about the same thing. However, the bar is serving cocktails since 10am when only few people was asking for them. They need 2 different teams (morning and afternoon) to attend.

Badly in Need of a Makeover

The only good thing about this hotel is the location.

The whole place has a dank, dark feel. The lighting is so dim that it feels like the twighlight zone. My room had such minimal light that it was uncomfortable. In addition the room felt like a trysting ground for gay men. There was a nude male torso on display and the brown walls and carpet were unwelcoming. I reserved a balcony room, looking forward to fresh air, light and relaxing views. Instead I was located on the side that faces a parking garage with a power generator that roars both day and night. If you do book here ask for the side facing the park. The only virtue of this hotel is its proximity to the Houston Museum of Fine Arts and the rest of the Museum District.

Fun location and vibe

Great location, comfortable beds, enjoyed pool

Some staff was not very pleasant. Valet parking was very expensive - $45 / night - with no other options.

Nice hotel - but nothing like the pictures on the website so we were a little dissappointed.

Toiletries were nice. Having balcony was nice. Pool was nice. Location for museums and park is great.

The 2 beds were small doubles... very small for a family so we had to sleep 1 adult 1 child per bed. Overpriced bar and snack items in room. Breakfast NOT included was a disappointment. Small pool behind bridge - unsure what it served as...it was really dirty and shallow. Either make it appealing to children as a small and safe splashpool or turn it into a pond - currently it does nothing and is an eyesore. Some of the hotel was blocked off for functions which was shame as my daughters wanted to play the piano in the sitting area behind elevators. Overnight parking at 45$ seemed a little steep.

Good stay—wish restaurant and bar had more affordable options.

Turn down service, afternoon snacks pretty lobby and room

cocktails in the restaurant were for some $22. That is too much even for a good restaurant in Houston.

Great hotel near museum and safe - zaza is bit zany but fun.

Delicious breakfast— huge portions and lovely restaurant with pretty lights at night.

Initially put in room over air conditioning and no view so they kindly moved us— 7th floor much better. Pool had no water till last day and unheated. Very dark hallways. Excellent coffee on each floor in morning. Very nice maids.valet cost 90.00 for two days. Safe though expensive. Close to natural history museum.

Good

I love the location right by the park and museums. The restaurant is good and it’s a very pleasant to sit at, especially when its warm and they open the windows. They design of the hotel is fun. They had coffee at every floor in the mornings beverages and snacks at the lobby in the afternoon which was very pleasant.

The design is nice but they haven’t renovated the building. Things are a bit old. The carpet looks too old. The staff was a little intrusive. They were knocking at our door on check out day while we were dressing up just to ask at what time we were checking out.

Fabulous

A good traditional hotel in the museum district. A nice place to stay near the Universitiy and the cultural life.

It's a little bit old but still working properly and the staff is very helpful.

It was a comfortable place stay when main focus was the museum district.

The transportation service within 3 mile radius was very good. Food at Monarch good. Complimentary coffee and tea every morning was a treat. Service people very friendly and helpful.

Odd that their amenities were limited, designed for one person, instead of two, even when the guests were a couple. One bottle of water, or no water. One sweet left at eveningb turndown. Shower space was tight. Only one chair to use.

It was good overall except for a few setbacks like water and shower.

I liked that I was able to check in early.

I didn’t like that the spa/sauna was not available on the days I stayed. I also felt that the shower was great in the morning and not as warm in the evening. the drawer space was a little awkward and I would have like complimentary water in the room.
