Moana Surfrider Westin Resort Honolulu, Hawaii

The communal balcony, comfortable lobby, manageable size, room service staff was very helpful and caring.

I didn’t like the pool, it is too small and the water is too warm and not refreshing. The pool area is also very small and doesn’t have enough chairs & umbrellas for the number of the guests and the beach chairs and umbrellas are very expensive.

It’s centralized and gorgeous hotel!

We found tons of dust behind the toilet and by the back of the light fixtures. It looks like the area have not been clean and dusted for a very long time.

It was right on the beach which was our biggest request, there was a veranda restaurant and bar right next to the beach. we did have a room with a balcony that was not offered in booking. the staff was very pleasant and generous with their services. they did offer towels for laying on the beach. weight room did have several aerobic machines, treadmills, elliptical and bikes.

there were several other hotels with balcony's on the beach for lesser price. the rooms were small and the shower stall was very small. we were allowed to extend the checkout time a few hours at a cost.

The beach and the pool are awesome at the “First Lady of Waikiki”. The staff are incredibly friendly and the free breakfast buffet every day is very convenient and has plenty of selections.

The balcony access at the Tower Wing is restricted due to structural inspections which was a bummer due to the room having an awesome view but us not being able to enjoy it. There are also not enough beach chairs near the pool area.

Great location in Waikiki, couldn’t be any closer to the beach if you wanted and so central to everything

The prices for food and drinks was quite expensive

Beautiful historical building that feels like the very heart of Waikiki - we heard several people in the breezy open foyer say “we should have stayed here” and having visited a couple of other big beach hotels we understood why. We were upgraded to an oceanfront room and we’ll never forget that view. Waikiki is a commercial beach but still stunning. We slept with the balcony door open and sound of the waves crashing on the beach sent us off to sleep wonderfully each night.

The bedrooms are slightly dated and the bed a bit soft for our liking, but don’t let that put you off - this is a stunning hotel.

Location and property itself were amazing

3 of our 4 days there were during the hotel workers strike and many of the hotel amenities were unavailable. Namely restaurants, bars, pool, cleaning service, etc. I understand the need for the strike but it was very unfortunate for hotel guests. Had hoped the hotel would have compensated us for the lack of services

Expected to have use of balcony to enjoy sunrise and sun set but hold on arrival that structural issues meant they were locked off - not impressed!

The beach is always the best and outside eateries were delicious.

The location of the hotel is prime right at the heart of Wikiki and the hotel as such is nicely touched

The hotel has indeed own beach spot but it was so small (just 5 umbrellas on the beach itself) circled by people from both the hotel (as its a big one and not enough space on the "private 5 umprellas spot beach) and non-guests that you could hardly call it "private"! In addition, as standard, the guests should not be asked to pay for staying at the private beach but instead we were unpleasantly surprised to know we need to pay 100 USD for the beach umbrella and 2 chairs and thus with advance notice (given the total of 5 umbrellas). In addition the so called.private beach was closing at 17:30h - too early! All in all not nice!

Having to rent sun chairs and umbrella from the hotel. This should be free to guests. The hotel restaurant was ridiculously expensive.

Excellent location. The grand old lady is positioned beachfront on a wonderful stretch of Waikiki. We actually got to see turtles swimming around us. Loved sipping cocktails under the banyan tree watching sunset & enjoying the live music. There is also a pianist playing in the lobby which was lovely to listen to in the evenings. The beds & pillows are amazing. We had the best sleeps. We would definitely stay again.

We didn’t have a room with oceanview and still paid a small fortune given resort taxes & the Aussie dollar conversion. Having said that… we should have paid extra for oceanview. The colour of waikiki is magical so it would have been worth it. Unfortunately because hotel was full we couldn’t upgrade later.

The location was exceptional and the rooms are well appointed. The view of the ocean is a perfect way to start any day. My wife and I could always find a little nook or cranny to just sit and relax away from the majority of guests.

The system of reserving chairs arounf the pool requires review. I rise early and noticed that the chairs were all taken by 6am. there seems to be no follow up on the 1 hour policy. My other dissapointment was that there is no where to store large surfboards at this hotel. It is called the surfrider but nowhere to store boards. I therefore assume the hotel focuses on non surfing guests.

More policing of unoccupied chairs around the pool. Should be made available to others if unoccupied for 20 minutes. If longer required, special permit with expiry time should be obtained from pool desk.

Location is absolutely unbeatable! We stayed in the room with ocean view and it was worth it every dollar. It's very close to everything that you need along Waikiki beach: restaurants, shops, markets, movies etc

The part of hotel that we stayed kind of need renovation. building is worn out.

The Moana Surfrider is a superb and historical place to stay, not to mention its perfect location to beachfront and everything else. The rooms are very large, clean and comfortable. I would stay there again in a heartbeat.

ALL balcony doors at the Moana Surfrider were locked internally, so no one could enjoy the advantages of having a balcony overlooking the pristine beach. Apparently the hotel is having some structural issues to the building. Also, to eat there was very expensive. For example, breakfast costed US47.

Location and restaurants are excellent. Staff friendly.

The room was called a “Tower City Larger Guest Room 1 king City View” but there was no view at all except across to the balconies of the next hotel. We were on 14th floor & were compensated with resort credit for not being able to use the balcony. However, if we’d known there was no view at all we wouldn’t have stayed there. There was a smell of smoking in the hotel & we stuffed a towel under the door to stop the smell coming into the room. We did tell the hotel about this but it didn’t get better. It’s a lovely hotel & very grand to look at outside and in the lobby. However the room was dark and nothing special so that was a little disappointing.

Location is perfect. Lovely history and classic design. Staff excellent and accommodating.

On the expensive side and I was unsure about the lack of security. Anyone off the street can walk in and wander around the accomodation floors. Small rooms but very nicely done.

The historic property was beautiful, iconic, frontage gorgeous, beautiful outdoor tables and bar/restaurant at the back on the beach and a huge lit banyan tree in the middle amazing. Nice pool, Large lobby for relaxing. Some staff were excellent. Location.

Historic rooms are quite small. High Price. The rooms were mis allocated to our big family with the same surname. We looked out into the tower (which reception said was city view ?). With all that I still did not regret staying there.

Due to our exchange rate it was a very expensive place to stay

We booked this hotel for 1 night as emergency accommodation due to a flight cancellation. The booking and check in process was very seamless, the staff were extremely accommodating and we were able to get into our room before the advertised 3pm check in time. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable.

The chairs in the beer garden were uncomfortable and very noisy when moved. Not enough places to dine near the beach and th beach bar itself feels tired and in need of an update

Nice location, very friendly staff. The hotel courtyard is very pretty. We ate at the bar and the food was great. The property is historic, so the floor is a bit lumpy but this was charming. Loved learning about the hotel’s history. Overall, we had a great time!

A small dislike was that the bathroom lights were not very bright. Hard to put on makeup or see how clean things are when the lights are dim…

Beautiful hotel, clean and comfortable rooms.

Rooms overlooking the street side were extremely noisy late into the night, from music being played on the main road, every night of our stay, making it difficult to sleep.

The location is excellent as it is right on the beach. I love the courtyard/restaurant and pool area. The hotel has all the amenities of a resort with classic charm and character. The pool is not huge but a decent size and you can get pool side service.

Given how expensive it is to stay beachside, it would be great if there were more "free-bies" like free rentals of boogie boards, beach umbrellas or chairs.

Getting a chair by the pool is just shambolic. Having to get up at 6:30am to get a chair is ridiculous and people taking chairs and not using them needs to be monitored. So many people wanting to sit by the pool and couldn’t yet so many unused chairs that people put their stuff on and then left ~ sometimes for hours. Really disappointing when you are paying good money to stay at a beautiful resort but can’t relax by the pool.

The room was small, but the ocean view was really incredible. We were very close to the water. Breakfast was delicious, albeit expensive. $40 for eggs benedict.

We were disappointed that it was difficult to relax at the resort because it was always so packed with people. Every time we did finally score a rocker to sit and talk with the people next to us, none of them were actually staying at the hotel. It was disappointing, given the price point, that we could not enjoy the facilities because people staying across the street or elsewhere, in a less expensive hotel, were taking advantage of the seating on the hotel grounds. There was hardly ever a place to sit, and people would hover if it appeared you were leaving. It's a great historical building, and I understand the draw, but there should be areas reserved exclusively for guests. Most of the time, we could not find a place to sit on the front porch (which was incredibly loud), the second floor porch, or in the back beachfront common areas, and our room did not offer seating. For this reason alone, I would not stay there again. The shower also leaked all over the floor every time we showered.The service was great, though.

The Banyan Tree patio is incredibly charming. Daily relaxing live music can be listened to either form the beach bar, the pool, or the beach itself. Unique laid-back atmosphere!

Gorgeous property and conveniently located.

Air conditioner was loud and smelled musty. We both came home sick with sinus issues. Could not open the sliding door for fresh air.

It’s gorgeous, right on the beach. Has a pool but the seating is limited, I was not able to use it.

The amenity fee is extremely high, doesn’t even provide a beach chair. Unfortunately the grounds are not monitor so the seating is taken up by passersby.

Beautiful original (1901) building and banyan tree terrace restaurant and bar right next to the sand. Nice feel of old Hawaii.

Not their fault , but we couldn’t use our balcony. They gave us a nice credit back tho.
