Proximity to beach. Competent friendly staff. Very helpful. Security staff was reassuring. Close to downtown activities. Food was good but very expensive.

Knowing the extent of construction prior to booking. Beach access from our specific tower was restricted. Mattress wasn’t as good as other Westin properties we have stayed at. Concierge service was could have been more helpful in identifying quality local restaurants.

Location is great

The pool area is sub optimal. Not enough deck chairs for the number of people. The roll away bed at $120 per night is too expensive. The King rooms should have sofa beds.

Great location, historical building with a colonial feel. In the heart of all the buzz. You can go around, come back to rest and change, and go out again. Very convenient. We stayed in a room with city view. Not bad at all. Some reviews mention construction noise. We stayed in the Diamond wing and had no issues. Kettle and coffee maker with pods in the room, regularly refreshed with complimentary bottled water. Right on the beach. Had a four-course tasting menu dinner at the Beachhouse. It was simply superb. I highly recommend it. Free activities like yoga, lei making, ukulele lessons, historical tour of the hotel etc with sister hotels. Just check the schedules and register.

Check-in and out was poor. The check-in lady forgot to give our complimentary tote (which is so under par by the way, looks like a market bag). Checking out, I had to ask another lady three times to add the name of my company on the invoice. She simply refused to listen and chose to ignore so she wouldn't have to do the work. Our flight was later in the day and they didn't offer us a place to change, we had to use the bathrooms. A lot of hotels would have suggested the changing rooms of the spa or gym. Simply couldn't get that tailored service feeling at the front desk. Miserable pool area. Really not much of a pool at all. If you're lucky enough to grab a chair by showing up by no later than 7:30 AM, I suggest you use the beach. It is not like the hotel has it's own beach facilities though. Outside of the pool area, there is a single line of sunbeds belonging to the hotel which you need to pay for. If not, you end up on the public beach. I grabed a chair by the pool and walked down to the ocean instead. (No more than 10 steps to be honest.) Breakfast is so so. Nothing special about the pancakes as advertised. Charcuterie was next to nonexistent. You can give it a try for a day but no need to spend $48 daily. There is an independent coffee point right on the street instead. Cleaning. The sills in front of the mirror in the bathroom were covered with very visible dust and water marks for the entire stay and weren't cleaned once. Housekeeping. No slippers or dental kit unless you ask for it. No other amenities. Wall mounted poor hair products.

There was a lot of construction work going on and a lot of noise. Could not come back to hotel to rest in between.

I wouldn’t suggest spending that much money in high season, the hotel is not bad but definitely not worth the cost of a 4-star. Service was fine and staff accommodating. However, the room we were first given was dirty (hair in the bathroom and shower supplies not refilled), not the standard we would expect for such a high price… The breakfast buffet is quite basic and also not worth the price, many people actually seemed to get their breakfast somewhere else.

I visit annually and love the location, hotel and beach

I am an annual visitor to the Moana Surfrider and this visit was very disappointed with my interactions with the Reservations Manager Zach. During my visit the year prior, I had requested with the hotel that my trip this year involved a visit to the mainland and could they hold a suitcase for me for one week until I returned. I had book-end bookings at the Moana either side of my week to the US mainland and numerous patrons request luggage to be held, especially when visiting other islands like Maui. When I checked out to depart the Moana for the mainland, the reception staff would not honour my arrangement and said they had changed their policy. This change in policy was never communicated to me and even after numerous conversations with Zach he still refused, even though the lovely Valet staff were willing to help. This was an extreme inconvenience and really impacted my annual visit. In addition to this, all rooms in the Tower have their balconies locked, due to an incident, so no fresh air in a 'beach view room' and patrons were very disappointed that this wasn't communicated to them or that compensation wasn't offered.

we could hear all noise from the city side of the street below. We thought the windows were open at first, but it was just really loud. I had to sleep with noise canceling headphones.

So close to the beach. Friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Felt very comfortable travelling here on my own.

I know they were working on the balconies but it was a little disappointing you couldn’t use them. Perhaps the snack menu by the pool and bar could be a little more varied and healthier. Nothing wrong with a club sandwich or fruit platter!!!!!

The hotel is beautiful and in an awesome location. Staff were helpful and friendly. Hotel was very clean and had good spaces for hanging out and relaxing. Food was also really good though a little pricey.

The current construction was extremely noisy during daytime hours at the pool and beach areas. Unfortunately, it really impacted the experience in taking away from the beauty and serenity. We paid to rent umbrellas on the beach and the noise was really disruptive to our experience.

We liked our room. Very airy and bright. Our bed was always made. The complimentary coffe/maker and 2 bottles of water was always replenished.

The noise from the construction across the street was a bit noisy. They started a bit too early in the morning. The noise from the night club at one of the restaurant's at the International Market echoed way too much into the late hours.

Of course a beautiful hotel on the best location. It was clean, everything worked well, the stuff was amazing. From Outside one of the most beautifullest hotels around. Inside small room with no space and old fashioned.

The room smelled not good, for me that is always important. And the bathroom is way too small. Furnitures are too old and way too big for the small room. There was no space around for the luggage.

Walls between the rooms are paper thin, which means you can hear everything.

Not only was this hotel, beautiful it’s in a prime location next to all of the upscale shopping stores and restaurants. It’s right off the beach and everything about this hotel was top quality. They do have sister properties. However, this one had to have been the nicest of all of them I would definitely recommend staying here even if it cost a little bit more you will be very happy with your stay.

When we arrived at the property, the employees were on strike so for the first two days, we did not have room service in full amenities however, I do understand the reasoning behind it and it’s kind of selfish for me saying that we didn’t have a full-blown experience however I was on vacation and didn’t expect that and they did not let us know ahead of time. The room we got was just a king size bed, and one of the smaller rooms. It was a bit tight but nonetheless, it did not like anything.

The communal balcony, comfortable lobby, manageable size, room service staff was very helpful and caring.

I didn’t like the pool, it is too small and the water is too warm and not refreshing. The pool area is also very small and doesn’t have enough chairs & umbrellas for the number of the guests and the beach chairs and umbrellas are very expensive.

It’s centralized and gorgeous hotel!

We found tons of dust behind the toilet and by the back of the light fixtures. It looks like the area have not been clean and dusted for a very long time.

It was right on the beach which was our biggest request, there was a veranda restaurant and bar right next to the beach. we did have a room with a balcony that was not offered in booking. the staff was very pleasant and generous with their services. they did offer towels for laying on the beach. weight room did have several aerobic machines, treadmills, elliptical and bikes.

there were several other hotels with balcony's on the beach for lesser price. the rooms were small and the shower stall was very small. we were allowed to extend the checkout time a few hours at a cost.

The beach and the pool are awesome at the “First Lady of Waikiki”. The staff are incredibly friendly and the free breakfast buffet every day is very convenient and has plenty of selections.

The balcony access at the Tower Wing is restricted due to structural inspections which was a bummer due to the room having an awesome view but us not being able to enjoy it. There are also not enough beach chairs near the pool area.

Beautiful historical building that feels like the very heart of Waikiki - we heard several people in the breezy open foyer say “we should have stayed here” and having visited a couple of other big beach hotels we understood why. We were upgraded to an oceanfront room and we’ll never forget that view. Waikiki is a commercial beach but still stunning. We slept with the balcony door open and sound of the waves crashing on the beach sent us off to sleep wonderfully each night.

The bedrooms are slightly dated and the bed a bit soft for our liking, but don’t let that put you off - this is a stunning hotel.

Location and property itself were amazing

3 of our 4 days there were during the hotel workers strike and many of the hotel amenities were unavailable. Namely restaurants, bars, pool, cleaning service, etc. I understand the need for the strike but it was very unfortunate for hotel guests. Had hoped the hotel would have compensated us for the lack of services

Expected to have use of balcony to enjoy sunrise and sun set but hold on arrival that structural issues meant they were locked off - not impressed!

The beach is always the best and outside eateries were delicious.

The hotel has indeed own beach spot but it was so small (just 5 umbrellas on the beach itself) circled by people from both the hotel (as its a big one and not enough space on the "private 5 umprellas spot beach) and non-guests that you could hardly call it "private"! In addition, as standard, the guests should not be asked to pay for staying at the private beach but instead we were unpleasantly surprised to know we need to pay 100 USD for the beach umbrella and 2 chairs and thus with advance notice (given the total of 5 umbrellas). In addition the so called.private beach was closing at 17:30h - too early! All in all not nice!

Excellent location. The grand old lady is positioned beachfront on a wonderful stretch of Waikiki. We actually got to see turtles swimming around us. Loved sipping cocktails under the banyan tree watching sunset & enjoying the live music. There is also a pianist playing in the lobby which was lovely to listen to in the evenings. The beds & pillows are amazing. We had the best sleeps. We would definitely stay again.

We didn’t have a room with oceanview and still paid a small fortune given resort taxes & the Aussie dollar conversion. Having said that… we should have paid extra for oceanview. The colour of waikiki is magical so it would have been worth it. Unfortunately because hotel was full we couldn’t upgrade later.

The location was exceptional and the rooms are well appointed. The view of the ocean is a perfect way to start any day. My wife and I could always find a little nook or cranny to just sit and relax away from the majority of guests.

The system of reserving chairs arounf the pool requires review. I rise early and noticed that the chairs were all taken by 6am. there seems to be no follow up on the 1 hour policy. My other dissapointment was that there is no where to store large surfboards at this hotel. It is called the surfrider but nowhere to store boards. I therefore assume the hotel focuses on non surfing guests.

More policing of unoccupied chairs around the pool. Should be made available to others if unoccupied for 20 minutes. If longer required, special permit with expiry time should be obtained from pool desk.

Location is absolutely unbeatable! We stayed in the room with ocean view and it was worth it every dollar. It's very close to everything that you need along Waikiki beach: restaurants, shops, markets, movies etc

The part of hotel that we stayed kind of need renovation. building is worn out.
