Megaron Historical Monument Hotel, Crete

Lovely building in a Central position in heraklion, close to seafood restaurants. Excellent breakfast, almost overwhelming choice of Cretan specialities.

Bedroom on the small side bit it was very comfortable.

The room was comfortable with fair enough space and a very good bed. They had a welcome for us even though it was not such generous. The breakfast on the other hand was rich and something that will make me to come back to this hotel.

The parking lot was too small and difficult to find a place to park. Also, they didn't have a charger for electric vehicles and this was a minus as you have to search for a charger in a nearby parking space. The room was a little bit noisy according to the airport which is close by but in the next years the airport will be moved into another space far away from the hotel.

Breakfast is outstanding. It's located across from the harbor and near several attractions like the archaeology museum.

It's a traditional hotel and therefore a bit too formal.

The amenities and location

This stately hotel was like a walk back in time to an era of comfort and service we rarely experience anywhere anymore. The room was spacious and comfortable. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet was spectacular and included many Greek savory and sweet options. No breakfast anywhere comes close to the infinite choices they offer. The bus to Knossos is next door to the hotel and the hotel is very close to the ferry port with wonderful views over the harbor. There’s no reason to stay anywhere else in Heraklion.

Food menu in upstairs restaurant could be more extensive.

It was not clear beforehand that the health suite facilities are only bookable by the hour, and for an extra fee (for each facility eg jacuzzi) Great for couples; but as a solo traveller it wasn’t worth it.

The hotel is right off the water at the port. We had a room overlooking the harbor. We enjoyed watching the ships come and go. There was a nice balcony where you could stand and enjoy the water. (See photos) The room was nice and the bed was comfy. The bathroom was spacious with a great tub! The breakfast buffet was outstanding with a huge variety of offerings. It was one of the best I've ever experienced and the restaurant staff was friendly and attentive. It is a little bit of a walk to the historic part of town, but we didn't mind.

My only complaint is that the air conditioning wasn't available, and I feel it is a little deceptive to say that the hotel is air-conditioned when it is not always air-conditioned. It was rather warm during the day, so you needed to open the balcony door to cool off the room, but it was VERY noisy, making it difficult to sleep. When we asked about the air-conditioning, the hotel staff provided us with a fan which helped, but it wasn't as cool as we prefer.

The staff were exceptional. One of our party got ill and they were excellent in calling a doctor and just being kind. The location is excellent. Short walk to center square, the fort and the airport is only 10 min away. The breakfast was AMAZING! Wonderful local Crete cuisine and other Greek food.

The WiFi was a bit spotty and the pool is a bit small.

Great location, excellent staff, so helpful. Room was so comfortable, well appointed and organized, very comfortable bed. Bathroom Also well set up, great shower. We loved the closet and good storage for our bags, made it easy to unpack and stay organized. Parking was very convenient, and loved that it was free. Fabulous, best-ever breakfast. Also loved the roof top restaurant, with views of port.

One minor glitch: The room Could have used a few more plugs, or double plugs. Example: couldn’t plug in the coffee machine with getting on knees and stretching around table to unplug the light that required that one and only plug in that location.

Had no aircon in the room but we got a fan instead when we were told there is no aircon in rooms.

We loved the location and how luxurious the hotel felt. The bed was super comfortable and breakfast was top notch.

Really excellent breakfast. Nice big well appointed room and bathroom. Enjoyed the roof terrace.

Air conditioning was not very effective

Staff were perfect, helpful and friendly. The breakfast was amazing, I've never seen such a spread, you could stay for over a week and try something new every day. The bed was enormous and super comfortable. The bedroom was large with a high ceiling.

I love this Hotel. A historical building, in great location, with more than expected quality of services. The breakfast is unique! The rooms are beautiful. Highly recommended!

Nice, well situated hotel near center and historic/cultural sites. Good sized rooms. Excellent breakfast.

The location and the view were superb. The breakfast was exceptional and the staff very polite.

There was not something that we did not like

The staff was extremely polite and welcoming. The breakfast was just amazing. The location was extremely convenient, 5-minute walking distance to the centre where all restaurants and shops are.

Everything was great.

The staff was extremely friendly, the room was comfortable, and the breakfast was out of this world. Originally, our flight was going to leave early and the staff volunteered to pack us a breakfast to-go. The flight was canceled so we were able to eat there and I’m so glad that we had to rebook to a later flight!

The hotel exudes class. The rooms were beautiful with lovely polished floors. The staff were helpful and all spoke good English. Location and parking were good.
