It could be a little more convenient in terms of handling luggage.

Vicky at reception was particularly gracious and helpful. She upgraded our room (we did not ask for this) and helped accommodate us when we arrived early (from the 6:30am ferry), well before check in. She also called our rental car agency and had them deliver the car to the hotel, which was extraordinarily helpful. I have never had a better experience with front of house help at any hotel. The rooms were lovely and pristine. The breakfast buffet was also the best I have ever had (and we have stayed at some excellent hotels); the week we were there was between Christmas and New Year's and the food was local, traditional, delicious--and there was a huge amount of choice. The kids ate more at one sitting than anywhere else we stayed.

Breakfast is exceptional, with authentic Cretan cousine and the staff do the best to accommondate the guests. The hotel smells perfectly of cinammon and citrus. The location is extra-ordinare and the welcoming is exceptional.

Some minor things. The room heating is done by air-conditioning, which has its drawbacks. Regarding breakfast, staffing is low in numbers, which results for the people working there to literally overload in order to be able to accommondate the guests. Some odd things also, like that the fridge is housed in a wooden closet at the bottom of the bed, as well as TV size and placement (too small for the room size and it's location).

Amazing breakfast

Everything about this hotel is great, the place, the staff, the breakfast, cleanliness and the location. The sea view is wonderful too and can’t forget to thank the restaurant staff too for the great service ! I booked this place for the birthday of my mum and the staff were so intentional about giving her special treatment from seeing to our absolute comfort to details like birthday cake even with the late birthday notice, snapping us both to immortalise our trip and showing flexibility. My mum enjoyed the spa and she absolutely loved the massage. A special thanks to all the staff for making my mum’s birthday special!

The bathroom is smaller than expected.

The hotel has a (small) and free on-site parking lot, which was extremely convenient after driving across Crete and into the City, which is a chaotic and difficult experience for visitors! The hotel was walkable to the archaeological museum and only a 15-minute drive to Knossos Palace and Heraklion Airport. The hotel staff was fantastic! They held our bags and called taxis for us. We also had a great room service experience.

The fumes from the cruise port were intense when we opened the door to the balcony. Also, the location does not have many restaurants around.

This is a perfect hotel with amazing service, very friendly staff, excellent food, cost, view, everything was superb. Nothing better could be asked.

Super friendly kind hearted reception at arrival. Our rooms were spacious, superior furnishings with all the amenities one could ask for in the bathroom and in the kitchen nook. In all our years of travel we have never experienced a combination of warm heartedness coupled with professionalism and genuine friendliness in one. From the reception to the staff at breakfast we were met with happiness. The cleaning staff we’re especially forthcoming and kind. Our views from our room facing the harbour was outer worldly. Panoramic views of the Harbour, the Port, the Ocean and the ancient walls kept us in awe. We watched the sun set and each morning we were filled with excited anticipation of the new ships in the harbour. And this all with never hearing a sound from outside unless we opened the terraces doors and windows. Totally soundproof. We thoroughly enjoyed five star treatment in this hotel.

Our best stay in Crete! From room to comfortable beds, to friendly staff and to even amazing breakfast. Nothing more we could have asked for to end our trip in Crete.

The view on the vénitien port and the ferries. Swimming in the rooftop pool enjoying the view was amazing . The breakfast was a feast.

Impossible to have a decent cappuccino before 11 o’clock, so I had to go out, walk up hill for 10 minutes to find a coffee house. The pavements around the hotel are very bad and going central town was a bit hazardous. Not impressed by the restaurant.

GDM Megaron is a great hotel! It is comfortable, clean and in a great location overlooking the harbor. The staff was helpful and friendly, giving us great suggestions for our stay.

Nice hotel. They were happy to put in a rollaway bed for our daughter. We were only there one night as we had an early ferry. Very comfortable room with balcony.

Our receptionist - Effie, was amazing - very friendly, very efficient and with great tips about restaurants in Heraklio. The hotel provides an amazing breakfast. Overall a great place to stay.

It was conveniently located on the harbour with easy access to restaurants, supermarkets, ATMs, and souvenir shops. Staff were efficient and attentive.

Breakfast items were not all hot and it took away some of the pleasure of the local foods that were offered.

Location was very close to sea front, city center and airport. Reception staff was wonderfully welcoming and informative. Bed was literally heaven, so comfortable. Shower had great water pressure. Free parking was a bonus. Also!! The food!! It was spectacular. Both the bar where you could sit on the roof and the breakfast buffet with local delicacies. Stunning.

Because of the convenient location, was quite noisy, especially airplanes overhead. Bathtub was a jacuzzi and was quite a perilous climb to get in to shower. Wouldn't recommend for those without great balance or with mobility issues. Would also have liked information about how to access parking prior to check in, as we had to go back and move car since we didn't know how to get into the lot.

"Effie" at the front desk was very helpful. Her recommendations were spot on and very appreciated. The room size was excellent. The location is perfect for walking to the Heraklion Archaeological Museum and the Central Market. The hotel is walkable from the ferry and bus terminals, and close to the airport. The room and property were very clean and well cared for.

The amazing convenience of this location comes at a price, port and airport noise. However, I would stay at the Megaron again.

Fantastic breakfast and friendly staff. Roof terrace is excellent and the food we had there (large mezze- The Dish) was superb.

Wine list in the roof terrace was surprisingly expensive. This was very disappointing as there are so many good Greek wines available at modest prices. Chairs in the breakfast cafe are very uncomfortable. Some are so low that the table is almost on a level with your chin and in most other cases it is impossible to draw the chair up close to the table - either because the chair is too high for the table or because of the square base on the floor that prevents chair and feet from getting close.

The location of the hotel was perfect, and the room was absolutely gorgeous. Very spacious and had a great view along the boardwalk. The staff was wonderful and very helpful with picking out places to see and eat.

This property is spotless and the rooms are spacious and very comfortable. The breakfast buffet is great especially the sweets section. This hotel exceeded our expectations.

We stay here regularly cause of the location and access to the city. The staff is excellent as well as the breakfast, and lovely rooftop lounge/ restaurant with views of the harbour. Many sites and restaurants within walking distance.

The rooms need a little updating, and the bathrooms especially with deep narrow tubs. The parking is somewhat limited, often returning late had difficult time finding space. Love my coffee, so the new coffee machines not great idea!

Central position so we could walk to museums and restaurants. Staff gave good recommendations for places to eat and also arranged private guide to Knossos.

The most remarkable aspect of this hotel is the quality of its staff. Everyone is very welcoming and friendly, whether at the reception, in the restaurant, or in housekeeping. It is truly a pleasure to be surrounded by such attentive and thoughtful people. The breakfast is truly excellent! A very wide selection of both savory and sweet options, with plenty of local products and dishes. I found the room very comfortable and well equipped, with a large bed, a spacious wardrobe, a comfortable sofa, a safe, a fridge, a hairdryer, and even a scale (very convenient for weighing luggage!). The room also offered a view of the sea & the fortress. The swimming pool overlooking the sea is very enjoyable, as are the sun loungers for relaxing. The hotel is not too far from the city center, but it does take about 5 to 10 minutes on foot to reach it. The advantage is that the hotel remains very quiet.

In my room, the TV was placed facing the desk, which meant it was neither in front of the sofa nor the bed, which was not very convenient. In the desk area of this junior suite, the chair was too low, not at the right height, and could not be adjusted. So for working, the conditions were not the best, especially since the pool area also did not provide a very practical space to work while enjoying the view. There were a few small tables, but very few, and placed very close to each other. As other guests came to have a drink, it was not really possible to work there. Other hotels chosen by my colleagues during this professional stay in Heraklion offered relaxation areas more suitable for working. I also regretted that the toilet was located inside the bathroom. Since I was alone, this was not an issue, but for a couple I prefer when the toilet is separate. The sea view was pleasant, but it also looked onto the “commercial” port and the surrounding area, which is not very attractive. That said, this is just a detail, as the view of the sea and the fortress is truly enjoyable. Finally, I found the price/quality ratio a bit high, considering everything I mentioned above.

Location was central, close to port, close to Starbucks, shops and good restaurants. The breakfast was excellent. Service was exceptional. Front desk clerks were all very helpful and friendly. They gave us great recommendations for restaurants and made reservations for us. The complimentary bottle of prosecco was a nice touch. The beds were extremely comfortable. Only wish that the shower was easier to get in and out.
