Hostel The Backpack, Cape Town

The hostel is beautiful, nice communal kitchen with a lot of storagespace. The communal areas are so comfy, we felt right at home. The garden is a superplus!

Our room was very cold due to its place in the hostel. The location was fine, but a bit dar from waterfront etc. However, table- and lionsmountain were close!

Affordable backpaker type of travel. The braai evening with karaoke was good, it was lots of fun.

Breakfast is limited there was no hot selection.

Great vibe and setting and a view of Table Mountain. Lovely breakfast.

Check in process could be better and some dry vomit in the hand basin after the friends visited the Braai party but I’m sure it’s a one off.

Closed Room with no window with a view outside. Not enough clothes hanging knobs in bathroom. No Shampoo or Conditioner or Body Lotion is provided. No food service even as a quick emergency basic stuff.

Great breakfast, great rooms, great staff. This hostel should be the model for others to try to follow. I can't wait to come back when I fly out of Cape Town.

Perfect hostel!

Their "trusted driver Mo" airport pickup didn't work. We had to take an Uber then.

I love the receptionist that answer the night as she was too helpful and everything.

The morning the receptionist was rude when asking for directions. Big black lady but young (just a description not used to attack her)

Fun, friendly, and comfortable. Everyone was very helpful, the breakfast was nice and the night we came in they were having a braai (byo meat/veggies and they'd grill it for you). You can see table mountain and lion's head from the courtyard of the hostel!

Cleanest and neatest kitchen I have ever seen at a backpackers. The free breakfast is very adequate. Great that you can also order a cappucino on top of normal tea/coffee. There is ample comfotable communal space, including in the garden. I was in a private ensuite room which was ideal next to the kitchen, and with an outdoor area with table and chairs and view on Table Mountain from there. The room and I think all the dorms except perhaps one or two are removed from noise from the bar. Over two nights the bar never got out of hand or late. Situated on the edge of the Bo-Kaap. I walked there and to the city centre in complete safety.

Truly no complaints, and I have seen many backpackers over the years!

The whole stay in itself was decent, no major complaints really. for a 1 night stay, will do it again. For a quick business trip, I would recommend this place, great value for money.

The fact that you pay 2k extra for like 5 minutes of heater usage? not cool Also there was no shower gel.

I came as solo but never felt lonely or alone. I am amazed at the afforability coupled with all the offerings and comfortability!

I absolutely love staying at Villa Viva. It exceeded all my expectations. The room was clean, and the white linen was great quality & spotless. The breakfast is unbelievable. The staff very friendly. The location amazing.

The good vibes at the villa, the location... I am quite a frequent user of that place now and each time i came was amazing.

Well i just wish the shower doesn't take that long to warm... I believe this does not serve the "save water" goal, because you have to let it run in a relatively long period. Also please make it warmer... Probably a problem specific to the room i took during my last stay. I did not enjoy the water temperature. Other than that, it remains my Go to Place! i love Viva villa.

I liked the location It was very cool at night and the breakfast was good for the price I paid. The place is close to lots of entertainment areas.

The staff members were very rude, two African ladies and white lady were very rude and their customer service was very poor. Their names are Samantha, Sesethu and Matilda.After breakfast they chase you out of the dining area by playing very loud music even when they see that you are busy on the laptop trying to concentrate. Their actions were very rude, disrespectful and unprofessional for that kind of a business.The only person I found to be welcoming and friendly was the reception lady. I cannot recommend anyone to go to a place like that where clients are not respected. I was very disappointed.

Our stay at Villa Viva went very well. The concept allows us to meet people, and the people who work there are very kind. The location was perfect: close to the city, easy access by car to the roads leading to the mountains, etc. Our stay was car-free, and we were able to enjoy it. We will be back (hopefully soon). Thank you to the young people and other people who offer this place a wonderful experience.

The Buffet breakfast was good, rooms are neat and clean , i booked for a 1 night , ended up staying there for 3 night

It is peaceful no noise they do have a dog and cat though. Very friendly stuff the Wi-Fi is good. The water is not really hot hot though but warm so it’s okay.

As I spent few days during winter time, I felt there was no proper heating system or windows with good insulation so the room was cold. The internet connection was not very good either.
