The Edition Ginza, Tokyo
The Tokyo EDITION, Ginza, which opened in late 2023, is a striking boutique addition to one of Tokyo’s most exclusive districts. Designed by world-renowned architect Kengo Kuma in collaboration with hotelier Ian Schrager, the building is a masterclass in “weaving” together modern global design with traditional Japanese craftsmanship. Its unique façade, featuring a latticework of metal that shimmers against the streetscape, makes it an instant landmark.
Inside, the hotel feels like a peaceful, high-design sanctuary. The interiors are defined by warm walnut paneling, minimalist lines, and soft lighting that mimics the glow of traditional shōji screens. A standout feature is the hotel’s sculptural staircase in the lobby, which leads guests to the Punch Room—an intimate lounge inspired by 19th-century private clubs and the only bar of its kind in Japan.
The hotel also prioritizes a connection to the outdoors, despite its dense urban setting. Its rooftop bar, “The Roof,” serves as a lush, plant-fringed oasis where you can enjoy natural wines while looking out over the Ginza skyline. Every detail, from the Le Labo amenities to the curated photography by Sayaka Maruyama and Takay, reflects a commitment to understated, sophisticated luxury.
Its prime location puts you right in the heart of Japan’s most famous shopping and dining hub. You are steps away from the iconic Kabukiza Theatre, home to traditional kabuki performances, and the high-end boutiques of Chuo-dori. It’s an ideal base for exploring the vibrant blend of old-world charm and cutting-edge culture that defines modern Tokyo.
Expert reviews
“The rooms at the Tokyo EDITION, Ginza make you feel like you’re about to have the best adult sleepover of your life. The robes? Plushy. The throw blankets? White and fuzzy. It’s all Le Labo everything in the bathroom and you feel like a million bucks.”
“Many of Tokyo’s big-brand luxury international hotels can feel out of touch with the local neighborhood, occupying the topmost floors of tall towers, but the low-slung, boutique-minded Tokyo Edition, Ginza blends in with the surroundings, with a street-level connection care of a ground-floor lobby just off the famed shopping street.”
“Designed by Kengo Kuma and the brainchild of hotelier Ian Schrager, it has got the locals talking. And this is—full stop—a party hotel. Without a lick of Japanese-ness about it, The Edition seeks to unfurl its world famous coolness.”

Great staff & location with above average rest of it
Firstly this is our 7-8th time in Tokyo for the last 2 years with staying in different hotels to explore the city.
Edition Ginza as a new hotel definitely in a great location if you like Ginza and very professional, high caliber staff. Despite those positives I gave this hotel a 7 maybe a max 8 in a generous day since with this price tag my expectations are bigger than that as there are way better alternatives in the city
And No. I am not going to give more details.

Great location, warmest hotel staff and a relaxing stay at The Tokyo Edition Ginza
The Tokyo Edition Ginza has the warmest, most attentive staff and hotel manager I've ever met and its not only on our first day but all throughout our 4 night stay. ALL of them has the sincere smile and accommodating attitude to hotel guests. On top of it, the twin room we booked was very spacious and has a relaxing vibe that makes you feel at home after a whole day of walking/touring/shopping. We appreciated the complimentary delicious welcome fruit- sweet and crunchy bunch of Muscat grapes which was available just at the right time when we all need that sweet healthy quick fix. We thoroughly enjoyed our daily breakfast and tried almost all the food offerings in the menu. 4 nights at the Edition was just perfect and made our Japan family trip more memorable and relaxed.
I found the scent of the Le Labo toiletries (shampoo, body wash) quite strong and heavy leaning towards masculine in terms of scent. Although I appreciate the use of a niche brand for their toiletries but I felt a bit sneezy when I inhale the scent. Other family members are okay with the scent though.

Tokyo Edition Sept 2024
The location is great. Fantastic breakfast of good produce. Their Concierge team were extremely helpful and lovely.
Some staff, perhaps too young, lacks better English and common sense. Their bathrooms are too dark. Not good for females when they make up.

Beautiful hotel with amazing staff in the best location in Tokyo!
The hotel is amazing. It’s beautiful, super clean and luxurious. The location is perfect, in Ginza, surrounded by shops, restaurants and transport. The best part about this hotel is the staff. From the front door to the breakfast staff, to the housekeeping teams and everyone else. They are all so friendly, helpful and make you feel like a princess. Breakfast is delicious, beautiful restaurant, cozy and lot’s of options. Loved it!

A modern hotel that was uncomfortable and felt temporary. Zero reference to luxury or comfort.
