Grand Coloane Resort, Macau

-The staff are great - we had a party where guests from numerous rooms all gathered in one room to drink until the small hours, and they absolutely just left us to it. -The huge size of the rooms and terraces. -There were lots of fun games and toys for kids in the pool area. -Room service drinks weren't horribly overpriced. -The breakfast is amazing. -The outdoor garden/pool area is beautiful. -It's so quiet, especially at night.

-Waste - it's been highlighted many times before by reviewers, but any stay at Grand Coloane will generate lots of waste. Plastic bottles, single-use room amenities, plastic wrap on the room service food, and a paper-based check-in/out all seem very antiquated at a time when hotels are increasingly becoming more sustainable and guests are demanding more eco-consciousness. Even the beach outside the hotel is covered in plastic rubbish, which is really sad. -It's so old-fashioned – the decor is at least two decades out of date and the place smells musty. You really get a sense of faded glamour when you walk in. The bones of the building are incredible – it's such a unique location. With a bit of vision and creativity, it could leverage its seclusion, history and distance from the Cotai Strip bling to easily become Macau's super-glam quiet-luxury hotel for those in-the-know.

The location is superb if you want to be away from the hustling and bustling city centre or the big malls. You can enjoy beach, parks and trails close by. The outdoor pool is why people are normally coming for. There is also indoor pool, a tennis court, a gym and a spa. The breakfast buffet is great too.

But because the hotel is not close to the city centre you have to plan ahead with fetching a taxi. the staff is usually very helpful in organising one, but if several guests want to leave at the same time you might wait for a bit. We tried to organise a taxi ahead of time, but at the reception we were told it's ok to just ask for a taxi 10 min ahead of departure. At the end we waited more then half an hour.

Lorrie and Doris at the Front Desk were amazing and super hospitable to us. Definitely one of the major highlights of our stay

Pillow & mattress not so good.

It is a charming place with a nice location for a relaxing vacation. It is relatively easy to get to the attraction places. Rooms are large and comfortable in an old-money style. It is possible to swim in the pool in the late evening, which is quite rare if you rely on the experience with European, Turkish, and Egyptian resorts. Stuff requires a special note! I found them helpful and supportive.

The hotel needs some renovation. Some parts of the hotel look like they were busy in the past and are now slightly abandoned. It would be nice to have a bit more time slots for the shuttle bus.

The pool and breakfast were great. Had a nice family time. Not too overcrowded which was great.

Some of the facilities could use a bit of a renovation but overall good.

Rooms are spacious, staff are very accommodating and facilities are great for children. Breakfast buffet had plenty of options and food was tasty.

Outdoor swimming pool water temperature was a little too hot for our liking. Especially in a hot summer day.

I love the seaview balcony and breakfast room service.

There is no snack shop or machine in the hotel.

The location is my favourite part of Macau! Very relaxing and resort like!

We are happy guests from Hong Kong. We love the location of the hotel. It is nice green, quiet, and not far from the strip if you want to go there. The rooms are a great size, and the beds are very comfortable. We also love the breakfast. The buffet is excellent value for money, and many fresh food choices are available. The resort pool is relatively shallow but a great size, and you can find many places to sunbathe around it.

When there are few people, the Pool Bar (Service) is unavailable. I think they should be consistent with offering that service. Also, there is a gym of good size, but some equipment is old, and some functions are not working. They could do it by upgrading some of the equipment.

Great pool, my kids had great fun there.

Breakfast could be better. Chinese restaurant was also average.

I’ve known Grand Coloane since I was a little girl and I’ve loved it ever since, so, for me, it’s very nostalgic to come back. The location and the hotel itself is beautiful and different to any hotel in Macau. The pools are great and with a relaxing ambiance. The hotel still remains mostly the same, conserving a vintage feel and I appreciate that.

Since the hotel remains mostly the same, it really should be well maintained and in some places that’s not the case and it’s a shame.

We enjoyed the pool, the breakfast and the room. Charming resort to have a break !

The landscape is great, definitely a break ! To reach the hotel, the queue to get a taxi was pretty long, we found a private one. I guess better to arrange upfront with the hotel if possible...

we love the room even we feel it is not up to date, but with the balcony and the beach view. we tried two restaurants that they provide good chinese food and breakfast. we tried dinner with indian food it was good too,the soup it's little salty other then that the bread with stuff chicken is delicious. the service was nice. I appreciate them.

the shuttle can be more often and go further be perfect. somewhere be update.

It was a wonderful experience. Check in was very easy, room was very spacious and comfortable. The Club area with games and entertainment for children was brilliant and the pool was fantastic. Ordering food and drink from the pool area was effortless. Will definitely come back.

The staff!! From start to finish, not a single complaint about customer service. Managers, cleaners, waiting staff, all an absolute joy. Special mention to the staff at the kids activities area. They were so amazing with our kids who had a blast with them, also the waiters were always helpful and understanding.

The place is a little bit run down, and the key card kept on needing replacement as it stopped working every time we left the room.

Breakfast is good. Location is superb. Enjoyed the tranquility of the place.

Bit dated in general and a bit far from the main areas of macau - but can easily get around by bus/taxi. Also the coffee isn't very nice unfortunately..

Clean pool, nice view, good food

Cold water in pool (it’s not temperature controlled), view from the second floor is blocked by plants and foliage (I paid extra to change rooms), nothing was done to celebrate my milestone birthday (at other hotels, they provide a small cake, bottle of wine…fruit platter or free room upgrade)

A relaxed resort-like location away from the craziness of the casino area. 5 minute walk to the beach and some good authentic restaurants. Spacious rooms and balcony and good size pool area with plenty of loungers

Some of the decor is a little outdated but - I quite liked it for the vintage feel.

Good spot with great room and large balconies - generally lovely , little dated and a little far from the main town but if you want a little seclusion then it’s perfect

Hard to get around Macau from this location and rooms a little dated but all that said the cost was good

The kids were entertained in the pool for hours. The rooms are a nice big size and breakfast although not big had a big range of food items.

The shallower pool for toddlers was not as clean.

It was difficult to get taxis

The location, in principle, on or very near the beach. The breakfast was very good (but no excellent) and not a great deal.

The beach is not that appealing. Water and sand. It was also raining in May. The hotel needs renovation, at least externally. It is also rather far from the rest of Macau and even taxis don't easily come when you call them by app.

The View, The Room Size.

Location.

Room is big with a balcony of nice view. The breakfast is great and lots of choices including egg and noodles station. There is a playroom which is good and the pool is overall nice.

The toilet is a bit creepy - it kept flushing automatically throughout the night. We suspect it's connected to other rooms' plumbing but we are not sure. It would be useful to have a hand held shower head to clean the children. The indoor pool can be cleaner, the outdoor pool is great despite the water is a bit cold.

our stay is value of money the staff are nice and the place so relaxing.

The breakfast was rather nice. The room was more than comfortable and clean with a great shower and bath, comfortable bed, and free coffee and tea. Anything and anything to be sent to the room is conveniently ordered through an app. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The pool and indoor jacuzzi are great. Perfect for a relaxing getaway, and I guess very nice for people with kids.

It was a bit disappointing that there was no bus into town. All transport was done through a taxi. The TV was a bit small in the room and a bit outdated. Besides that, everything was fantastic.

EVERYTHING WAS EXCELLENT.

There was a good selection for breakfast. The room was large with a big balcony overlooking the beach. Everything was clean and the hotel is close to local restaurants, while at the same time only a short taxi ride from Cotai.

Some wonderful staff. Jessie at the kids’ club was particularly amazing. The space in the resort is great with plenty of areas for kids to explore. The pool was also fantastic with equipment for the kids to play with - they particularly loved the floating bridge. The location, while not great for those hoping to spend time at the casinos or in the old town, was perfect for us with a playground nearby and a couple of great restaurants. The balconies are great and the view was fantastic. The hotel is also showing it’s age slightly, but for me this added to the character of the place. The architecture is far more appealing than the proliferation of boxy hotels on the Cotai strip.

While we loved our stay, there are some things that anyone should be aware of before arriving: - Our room keys stopped working six times during a four day stay. This meant regular trips to reception to get new ones and this was not ideal. -The understaffing of the restaurant and bar area is a bit unnecessary: for most evenings they had one member of staff attempting to run both a bar and restaurant alone. - The menu constantly had missing items. As we’re vegetarian, we’re fairly limited anyway, so it was pretty frustrating when pizza was unavailable on some days, noodle soup was unavailable on most days, and even basic stuff like watermelon and apple was sometimes unavailable. - At the end of the stay, despite us booking a taxi for 11, this was forgotten and so we were twenty minutes late leaving the hotel which was quite stressful with regards to getting the ferry.

What a lovely place, easy access with bus from the pittoresque Coloane village as well as from Macau city center. Very good price for such a lovely place - breakfast was outstanding, staff as well! We would love to return one day! Enjoyed the pool, the outdoor bar at night and the lovely mornings from our balcony overlooking the ocean. The Portuguese sea-side restaurant next door restaurant is well worth a visit at night - small path leads you towards the outdoor seating!

The only thing I regret is that I wasn't able to bring my entire family along for a few weeks - absolutely lovely place!

It is quiet at night. The view is excellent . Free Shuttle bus is the best .

The resort facilities and rooms are outdated. Requested for bottles of drinking water but didn't receive it.
