Casa Balthazar, Lisbon

Staff was very polite and informative. They went out of their way to ensure you were having a good time, provided suggestions and made sure you had the proper directions. Juron (sp?) was VERY helpful retrieving the phone.

Location was amazing! So convenient. Breakfast was also great!

The staff was so attentive and helpful for anything we needed – restaurant suggestions, and directions, car service to hotel, and back to airport, water, bringing breakfast to our room due to an early flight. Just exceptional and so kind!

The pool is small, we refrain from going one day because they were already 10 people in it and not much room for others. However, it’s still very cozy.

We only had one night in Lisbon, the first night of a 3 week trip. Glad we stayed at Casa Balthazar. Very comfortable room and we were able to get some rest. Super location and easy to walk to local restaurants. Property is beautiful with nice sitting room, honor bar with some delightful orange cake. Breakfast was super and the service was great.

This was a very impressive property, beautifully furnished with spacious bedrooms and several lounge areas. The pool was heated to 26 degrees so a very comfortable temperature. There was delicious fresh orange cake provided every day and you could help yourself to tea and coffee and alcoholic drinks using an honesty system. The towels were of beautiful quality. The staff were very helpful recommending restaurants and the breakfast was excellent. It was located a 4 minute walk from the Rossio train station where we could catch a direct train to Sintra.

I describe Casa Balthazar as an oasis or sanctuary escape in the city. Our room had a family room and private patio with an in ground jacuzzi and reclining chairs. After a day of sightseeing and walking up and down the steep streets, it was amazing to come back for relaxation! The breakfast room and shared pool area was just beautiful! There was coffee, tea and scrumptious cake offered throughout the day and evening. The breakfast buffet was one of the best we had in Portugal! The service was lovely. It was our 1st destination on our tour through Portugal, and it was one of the best hotels we stayed at! Thank you to the staff!

We were very happy with the location of the hotel but also the hotel itself. Right in the heart of bustling Lisbon, yet the hotel had a relaxing vibe.

Incredible hotel. Great service. Great location. Unbeatable value for all the amenities especially if you drive..you can park there in one of the densest parts of the city! Fantastic breakfasts.

The breakfast was delicious and the staff was kind and welcoming. Our room was lovely with a panoramic view of the city. The delicious cake for the guests in the dining room was such a lovely touch. The beds were comfortable, contributing to a restful night.

A truly lovely property filled with original art and thoughtful touches, like afternoon cake and all the streaming services you could wish for in the room.

Although the windows are double-paned, there is still quite a lot of noise from the neighborhood at the weekend - bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper. It didn't bother me.

Amazing boutique hotel. This is the best place to stay in Lisbon if you have a car!!! They have a private parking lot in the middle of town!!! Rooms, breakfast, service, romantic atmosphere… everything was perfect!!!

Fabulous location in central location. Luxurious spacious suite with all amenities. Excellent facilities including outdoor areas. Great breakfast. Professional and helpful staff in all areas.

Needed another mirror in the bedroom as the lighting in the bathroom not good for make-up. A full length mirror on the inside is the wardrobe would be perfect.

After arriving in Lisbon during a country-wide power outage, checking into Casa Balthazar was like finding an oasis. The staff went out of their way to get us settled quickly and comfortably. That level of attentive service continued during our stay. The property is a charming historic boutique hotel with modern conveniences. Location is central to tourist attractions with many restaurants, shops and public transportation nearby. We looked forward to breakfast, which was a spa-like relaxing experience with soft music, friendly service and a lovely buffet with fresh fruits, local pastries, great cappuccino and more. We enjoyed our experience so much that we booked an additional stay as we were checking out.

We can't think of anything that would have improved our experience. It exceeded our expectations in every way.

We loved our stay at Casa Balthazar! The room was so cute and comfortable. There was plenty of space for us for a 5 day stay, including a sitting area where we could relax, sip on wine and read. The hours of the breakfast were long, and Rui even sent us up breakfast the night before a 6:30am departure (which is before the breakfast service begins). We also couldn't have asked for a better location. It was literally in the center of EVERYTHING so we could walk to pretty much everything we wanted to see or go to. Highly recommend!!!

Amazing stay in Lisbon. The staff was all so amazing. We stayed in room Jacuzzi I and it was amazing. Wonderful views of the Castle and the city sky line. Very close to the main train station. Centrally located for everywhere you want to be.

This place was beautiful, very clean and well decorated! The staff is incredibly helpful and kind. It's well located to many restaurants and shopping. The only negative is I wish I had taken the time to enjoy the breakfast. We waited until checkout to try it and it's just lovely! The pastries are divine!

If I had to find a negative it would be the bed was much harder/firmer than I prefer.

It is daunting to be a first-time visitor to a foreign city as large as Lisbon, but Casa Balthazar proved to be an exceptional home away from home. Our suite's spaciousness and comfort exceeded our expectations, and the oasis-like setting of the complex is fantastic. We enjoyed starting our day with our lattes and expressos in the exquisite breakfast area, always served promptly by enthusiastic staff. Likewise, the front desk staff, including Maria (manager), Paul, Yuran, and Rui, were exceedingly helpful and attentive to our needs. If my wife and I were to ever return to Lisbon again, we would definitely choose Casa Balthazar in a heartbeat.

Prime location in the middle of everything but still very quiet tranquil and private somehow, vintage and antique heirloom pieces gave the otherwise stark property a warm and antique generational family home feel

Don't expect to be able to check in early from a transatlantic flight. They don't arrive til a bit later, so you might need to make arrangements.

We stayed in the Pool Room, it had steps to reach the room. Great view. Comfortable room especially the king bed. Great breakfast, a great tip we found the train station escalators a great trip to down town and back up.

Lisbon reminds me of San Francisco lots of hills and stairs to climb up and down. Great city adventure.

It was brilliant! Fantastic location in such a pretty street and neighbourhood with lots of nice restaurants. Our room was huge and tastefully decorated with a magnificent view of Lisbon and the Castle. We felt like we were part of the city. Staff members were so helpful at each point of the stay, at arrival, at breakfast, when booking restaurants and taxis and on check out. The breakfast was ample and in a beautiful room and the all day ‘cake and coffee’ was a lovely touch. We did not use the spa and pool but in the summer this would be a welcome event. The art work and furniture everywhere was tasteful and we loved the ‘honesty’ bar although we did not use it. The little kitchenette in our room was great to make tea and coffee - clever idea. We loved the whole experience of Casa Balthazar and were very sad to leave.

Highly Recommended! A magical quiet gem full of atmosphere in the heart of old Lisbon. The hotel boasts beautiful public spaces, exuding a serene and elegant Portuguese ambiance. The breakfast is excellent, and there’s a delightful coffee and pastry corner available throughout the day. Our cottage room was very spacious, featuring a private courtyard and a warm jacuzzi to relax in after a long day of exploring Lisbon. Above all, the service was amazing—attentive yet unobtrusive, calm, and truly made us feel at home. we highly recommend this place!

Central but really quiet location. Full of character- each room was unique. Tasteful decor. Good breakfast

Nothing really. The water and electricity system were a bit antiquated. Lighting was mostly by lamps and not all the plugs seemed to work. The hot water took a few minutes to come through. We couldnt get the bath to work at all but the shower was grand.

The location is perfection and the staff, Rui and Paula, specifically, were absolutely lovely. The hotel itself is very warm and inviting. They have made sure to keep the character of the house/bakery intact, which gives it a lot of charm. The breakfast was very nice, although we didn't know we could order hot food, such as eggs. We saw someone do this our last morning, after we ate, and it would have been nice if they offered this. The honor bar offers a good selection and there was a freshly baked cake available daily. Our room, The Cottage, was very comfortable. The lighting was a little tweaky and the beds were the typical 'European firm', but our private hot tub and patio was awesome! Lots of space inside. Make sure and take in the Fado show and great tapas at the restaurant around the corner!

We had a hard time sleeping due to the proximity of the reception door to our bedroom. The door is heavy wood, without a sufficient closing mechanism, and when it was used it would slam and shake our bed. This would happen beginning at 5:30am until about 2am. Again, this was unique to our room. This would not keep me from staying at this beautiful hotel, just this room.

Jacuzzi room 3 was amazing. After a long day of walking around and site-seeing it was GREAT to relax in the tub on the balcony watching the moon.

Great location near many restaurants and a train station. We had the cottage and it was very comfortable and spacious, the spa was fantastic at the end of a big day walking. Breakfasts were plentiful and delicious. The fresh cakes provided all day in the lounge with tea and coffee was very welcome.
