Sir Nikolai Hotel, Hamburg

The Nikolai Hamburg is an excellent hotel, conveniently located in Altstadt, a lovely historical area right by one of Hamburg’s many canals. It’s just a few minutes’ walk from the UNESCO World Heritage site Speicherstadt, as well as shops, restaurants, and cafés. The hotel is close to bus and subway lines and can be easily reached from Hamburg Hauptbahnhof. Rooms are beautifully decorated and comfortable. Breakfast is delicious! Staff helped to get reservations and navigate German websites.

The shower is separated from the toilet, which is great, although it floods the room every time. Have to use extra towels to control the water from flooding the entire room. Not a definitive reason not to choose the hotel, but a bit annoying .

Location next to St.Catherine’s church (easy to navigate by the spire), within a walking distance to almost everything. Very good breakfast with good coffee, eggs to order options, nice view from breakfast room. Appreciated a knife and different sorts of glasses in the room and Occitaine Vervein toiletries. Easy to operate touch-switches for lights, room temperature etc. A bathrobe and slippers available. Coffee, tea - too. TV sorts German, European, World news channels. Personnel very friendly and helpful. I was accepted on arrival well before official check-in time and gained extra time in Hamburg!

Note well that wc cabinet light switches on as you open its door, at night this may not be very comfortable to get instant bright light. The sink is in the room and the shower and wc are in a separate ‘cabinets’; the idea is ok if you know it.

I loved the room and the hotel property itself is really great

The communication re parking and re malfunctioned room fridge was off. I realized they ran out of parking tickets only when I arrived so had to pay and move the car. I realized the fridge in my room wasn’t working only after milk I put there spoiled. A short communication would have solved it very easily and it’s annoying they didn’t think it’s worth informing me

Reception staff especially Alina and Katherine were exceptional. The breakfast buffet is remarkably good. Great food , well presented and so fresh. The location is quiet but just very short walks to many of the city's main features, and easy access from public transport.

I felt the bar area was very cold and sterile. Not cozy - stiff tables and chairs which work well for breakfast did not provide any of the luxurious feel of the rest of the hotel. Perhaps a few soft upholstered chairs could be grouped for use in the evening.

The hotel is well located within the city and close to many of the main attractions . The staff were very friendly and helpful , particularly the bar staff !

The additional costs of breakfast was quite expensive . There was also a lack of tea and coffee in the rooms . The shower wet room also flooded

The entrance wasn’t very enticing and hard to recognise as being a hotel.

Not super close to the u-bahn or s-bahn for getting around. But that’s literally the only downside I can think of.

Placement in a quiet road; beautifully decorated, spacious room; rich and well-assorted breakfast; cleanliness and attentive, friendly staff; daily water bottle; refreshments and cookies at reception. We loved our quiet room.

Great location close to the harbour area and a short walk into the City Centre. Fabulous City lovely and clean.

The Nikolai is in a great location, tucked into the fabric of a quiet neighborhood. But it’s also close to the main museums, easy walking distance, the symphony venue, a neighborhood, pizza restaurant, and a weekend farmers market. It was just lovely.

The hotel was very elegant. Our room was beautiful, clean, comfortable and spacious. The bed was extremely comfortable.

Very nice staff, very good location. Early check in was no issue and they were also happy to store my luggage after check out.

I had a room on one of the lower levels facing the courtyard, so it was very dark, even on a sunny day. Was no issue as I did not spend much time in the room.

Unique hotel. Good facilities with comfortable beds. Nice central location, walkable to many sites.

The hotel was spotless, in a great location and a chilled place to stay …. The staff were excellent, very pleasant and helpful…. Breakfast was very nice with a good choice of food

If there was one fault with our room that needs to be addressed is that we were totally overlooked from the rooms across the internal quadrangle and we had to keep one curtain permanently closed…. The blinds do need to be replaced as we did see the fittings were in place…. This was a shame, but the room was fabulous

Excellent location, love the view and the room

The shower looked a bit outdated and there is a certain amount of light in the room as the light switching panels doesn‘t get dark at all. This is a bit disturbing. The staff was not really friendly, just ok

We had an upgrade and were amazed by the luxury and comfort, the location is ideal and the view from the window. Loved our stay

A bit weird bathroom setup.

The room was impeccably clean and it was clear that every single detail had been thoughtfully considered to ensure a comfortable experience. The bed was hands down the most comfortable I've slept in recently. The bathroom was exceptionally and elegantly decorated, adding a real touch of luxury. Finally, its central location made getting around incredibly easy and was a major highlight of our trip.

Excellent quiet location and the rooms were beautifully appointed. Staff was helpful and they greeted us in the lobby on arrival with champagne and chocolates.

Quiet, comfortable room, good facilities including a kettle and an illy coffee machine. We were given a voucher for a welcome drink (sparkling wine or a beer) in the bar. Great location within walking distance of the Speicherstadt, the Albstadt and the train station.

It was a beautiful historical hotel and very close to a lot of things.

The restaurants close by were not open when we were there. Also the mattress was too soft

Quite expensive, parking costs extra 28EUR per day. Bathroom is not a separate room, which is quite inconvenient.

Wish they had a restaurant and room service. At night there is very little in the immediate area.

Conveniently located hotel with lovely ambience. Our room was comfortable with a view of the Elbe. Nice touch to be given a free welcome drink in the bar. Staff very friendly and helpful.

Less keen on the bathroom arrangement - marble shower ‘pod’ and toilet with sink outside in the main room. All nicely done just would have preferred a standard bathroom.

Hospitality- welcome - design - rooms = ALL

The staff were amazing, very polite and courteous. The hotel bar is really nice with a good selection of excellent cocktails. The rooms are comfortable, perfectly formed, and very quiet. We will definitely stay here next time we visit Hamburg.

Good location to visit down-town and the Unesco World Heritage area. The hotel had a pleasant smell of vervein perfume. Nice room furniture, very refined. Very good choice of breakfast food, with the possibility to have à la carte dishes.

The bathroom was split in 3 areas: one for the toilet itself, one for the shower and the sink was in the bedroom. Everything was aesthetically refined but not very functional. In addition, toilet and shower room fans did not work and toilet room door did not close properly. For hygienic purpose, it would be better to have all the breakfast food more covered.

The location was brilliant. The staff were very helpful. The room was really beautiful with cool touches. It was spotlessly clean and quite spacious. I loved the interior design of the room and the hotel in general. I appreciated the complimentary drink in the bar also. I will definitely be back:)

Location is amazing, bed is very comfortable. Our room was a bit smaller and not like in the pictures but similar design.

Breakfast was not included and expensive to add on, and shower only had a hand held which didn’t fit into wall bracket properly so had to take it off and hold it.

A beautiful hotel in a good location 👌 staff are friendly and it was spotless i did think breakfast was expensive but there was a good choice of food to suit all tastes. Bar was lovely Bar staff very friendly but only except card payment which I didn't like other than that a lovely place to stay beds are very comfortable overall stay was great and we enjoyed it.. we stayed because a family member was getting married

- No parking at the hotel, it's possible to park on the street near but there are no many places and you need to pay 8€ for every 2 hours except night and Sunday - Rooms are clean but there are some signs of tear and wear.

Fabulous room ( ask for a room with a view of the water rather than an internal facing room) with quality fittings, comfortable bed. Great breakfast. Friendly staff. Quiet location, close to cafes, restaurants and places of interest. Very efficient and friendly staff. Lovely decor. Great check out time 12:00!

Beautiful boutique hotel in an amazing location, super friendly and helpful staff (I was able to check in earlier), tasty breakfast with a variety of options. Modern room, with an unusual yet comfortable solution for the shower, toilet, and sink.

The only issue was that the room was quite loud and acoustic. Both nights I was woken up by very loud clicking/electronic noises in the middle of the night; toilet flushing from other rooms could be heard as well.
