Casa de la Luz Hotel Boutique, Mexico City

Location was fabulous if you want to be right in the historic center. Staff were friendly and helpful. Space is beautiful. We felt safe and especially appreciated the interactions with the late night front desk and security who were kind and accommodating as we came and went from the hotel. The included breakfast is also fantastic and the staff in the restaurant are superb.

We had some serious problems with our initial room, after speaking with the desk we received a room change the second space was perfect. However this hotel is best for midweek travelers. During the weekend you have a Disco next door that will seriously change the otherwise peaceful vibe of the space.

The staff were very nice and helpful. The hotel is beautiful and we enjoyed the daily breakfast. Our bed was comfortable. The hotel is located very close to the square. The hotel was very clean.

There is a night club that we could hear from our room on the weekend.

The housekeeping was erratic. They promised bathrobes but we had to ask 4 times. Unlimited water was the promise but when we asked for a bottle they attempted to put it on the bill, we declined to pay and they accepted. The hotel is on a plaza and for several nights there was very loud music well into the night. One night the music (furniture vibrating ) went until 6 AM.

The breakfast was good, including fruit, a nice juice and ‘pan dulces’, as well as a choice of eggs and cooked food.

The tipping culture meant that at breakfast (which had been pre paid at the start of the stay) an account was taken of what food had been eaten, eg 400 pesos and there was an expectation of a 15% tip. Also we arrived very early on the day of check in due to the flight arriving early, which meant that we got to the hotel at about 6am, and we were asked to pay an amount of 1,000 pesos to be given access to an already prepared for room !

I was able to have an evening snack one day and dinner another. The food was exceptionally good. Order the salsa - they wheel in a cart and make it in front of you, using a mortar and pestle. So delicious. The room was very large with high, high ceilings. Excellent pillows.

I understand that people want to be with family and loved ones, but I could not get an evening meal either Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. I was unable to eat breakfast as each of my day excursions started very early, long before breakfast was served. Otherwise, everything else was excellent.

Toilet paper wasn’t replaced often enough (none in the room to start wit and twice we had to share a bath towel because only one was replaced

Gorgeous building and they've done such a marvelous job renovating it. Love the detailing of the rooms, the brick work, the beamed ceilings, and the Smart TV with built-in apps. The concierge, Jesus, was made for his job. He clearly enjoys people and wants guests to have a wonderful experience. Location for visiting Zocalo is great (but also crowded and quite noisy)

It's too bad we can't charge our meals at the restaurant to our room. We had to pay each time with our card. Also, need fabric softener! Towels and robe (and there was only 1 robe provided) feel like sandpaper. Ditto for the toilet paper. Also, I'd appreciate a selection of pillow densities. If you're going to provide 4 pillows, make 2 of them softer / mushier and then 2 of them denser. Also, no room service. We ended up quite sick for 36 hours of our stay and felt rather helpless in our room, surviving on the mini fridge for hydration. Finally, realize that this is a VERY NOISY location. Next time, I'll likely stay in the Condesa, Polanco or Cayoacan area for more peace and quiet.

This hotel is in the heart of Mexico City. It is in a busy district with a small park across the road and a church across the street. The hotel is beautiful and definitely not a cookie cutter American style chain hotel. The restaurant was great food excellent. Rooms are large and clean

There wasn't anything I didn't like, but if you are a picky traveller you need to consider this is in the city and there is some noise from time to time, but it is life noise. Bells ringing, people cars. The hotel is located in a corner of a square and is very lovely.

The breakfast was amazing and restaurant upstairs was my favorite. The food was delicious and cocktails even better. The service was excellent and the staff very professional and very friendly,

The hotel is abosolutely stunning, and the staff are really friendly. The venue is also great, ver yclose to the cathedral and close to downtown shopping and the histle and bustle of the old town.

The rooms are really beautiful, however, our room was not very well insulated from a noise perspective. so it was quite noisy in the room when we were sleepong. Our room also was lacking in a few small facilities - ie only one hook for towels in the bathroom, no hooks fo rthe hand towel around the sink, no cup for toothbrush. But like I said, the room was really beautiful so willing to overlook these small things.

Beautifully renovated historic building. Comfy bed and very clean. Walking distance to historic sites and public transport system. Breakfast was good, but doesn't start serving until 8am and is "a la carte" so takes a while - given that on 2 of our 4 days we had 7:30-8 am starts we had to go without - think before you upgrade to a "breakfast included" package. Roof top terrace was a nice spot for a drink.

Paid for a suite with balcony. On check in were given a very noisy room with no windows. Were moved the following day, but never provided any compensation/explanation. Pre-ordered an airport transfer. This worked well, but on arrival at the hotel the price had changed from the prearranged 600 to 850 Pesos (concierge had sent a WhatsAp whilst we were on the flight, but a little late in the day for such an uplift when price agreed 6 months earlier). Hotel's explanation was the concierge is a franchise and not under their control! Tried to book a return trip, but hotel failed to pass on the message and so the ride never materialised. Just get an Uber - it cost $5 to airport. To sum up, staff on the front desk were very smiley and well meaning , but undertrained. Communication was an issue.

The location in Centro Historico next to Zocalo is unbeatable!

Due to the property housed in a historic hospital building from the 19th century, some rooms don’t have windows at all, feel like luxurious jail cells.

Everything was on point

Fantastic location on a historic square and a short walk into the centre. Stunning building and restoration, extremely friendly and helpful staff, really great breakfast.

The lights in the foyer outside the room were on all night and the light spilled into the room because of lack of blinds or curtains up high. Really nnoying if you like a dark room for sleeping.

Given that we did not speak Spanish, we were delighted that the staff were able to converse in English. Jesus looked after us very well, suggested places of interest, local restaurants, arranged taxis & tours. The staff at breakfast were polite and looked after us attentively. Same for the evening meals at the restaurant.

Whilst our bedroom was good, it lacked air circulation and this made it uncomfortable. We sat in the open court area outside the bedroom to sit and relax but noted that this area was not always cleaned. There was no facility to boil hot water but we overcame this by asking for hot water in the restaurant which the staff willing gave.
