Abraham Hostel, Tel Aviv

21 Levontin Street, Tel Aviv, 6511604, Israel (show on map)

Abraham Hostel Tel Aviv, located in the city’s “Electric Garden” district, is a vibrant social hub that draws inspiration from the biblical concept of hospitality. Founded by five travel entrepreneurs who wanted to bridge cultures, the hostel occupies a massive, repurposed former telephone company building. It was meticulously renovated over five years to transform the industrial shell into a welcoming space that now houses over 400 guests.

The hostel is known for its energetic, communal atmosphere. It features an expansive lounge filled with murals and mismatched furniture, serving as a living room for both international travelers and locals. A standout feature is the large green rooftop, which offers spectacular urban views and serves as the perfect spot for sunset gatherings, live music, or yoga sessions. The on-site bar and communal kitchen further foster connections, making it easy for guests to share stories and tips.

Beyond the walls, the hostel acts as a gateway to the region. It operates an in-house tour company that organizes excursions ranging from local graffiti walks to multi-day trips to the Dead Sea, Masada, and even Petra. This emphasis on immersive, narrative-driven experiences has made it a favorite for solo travelers and digital nomads.

Its location near Rothschild Boulevard is ideal, placing guests within walking distance of the bustling Levinsky Market and the edgy, street-art-filled Florentine neighborhood. Whether you are exploring the ancient port of Old Jaffa or heading to the beach, the hostel’s central position makes it a perfect, practical home base.

Expert reviews

Lonely Planet review:

“This mammoth hostel is one of the best places to meet other travellers, and it has some of the cleanest and best-kept budget rooms. It offers excellent suites for couples or families with bathrooms, kitchenettes and TVs; it also operates tours in town and around Israel.”

The Abraham's becoming my default choice in Tel Aviv. I just hope it won't become too popular.

Sumptuous breakfast, and a rooftop patio.
Wifi was generally good, once I figured out how to enter the password properly.
Baggage storage before booking in.

Not all bunks had under-bunk storage, and lockers were rather narrow. Staff responded well to a request for a change.

I can't complain, only because of the scary old man.

The people there were nice.

There was a scary old man in white.

Showers, sleep, food, and wifi; what more could one need?

Breakfast rates as "sumptuous".

Wifi connection could be a bit erratic, and entering the password could be a pain, but that might have been my tablet's fault.
As the last person in the room, I had no choice but the top bunk, but that wasn't Abraham's fault. Slightly wider steps on the ladder would be kinder to bare feet than 1" square tube

Good location but dirty

Location, communal area for relaxing, garden, staff was friendly but slow to respond

It is not possible to close the windows properly; they are too noisy.
Common showers were very dirty

Friendly staff but cleanliness needs addressing

The location was great and the staff was friendly and helpful. The sheets and towels were clean. The room was overall comfortable and spacious.

The cleaniless of the room was not to great. There was a lot of dust on lamp shades and side tables.. The facilities need maintennance as the bathroom was a bit moudly for example. The shower curtain was dirty but it was replaced upon mentioning it at reception.

A great place to stay if you are a heavy sleeper

Great place in the city center with its own atmosphere. Hearty breakfasts, comfortable beds, quite clean. Nice staff and contingent.

So poor soundproofing that it feels like the bed is in the middle of the road in a traffic jam between honking cars. I stayed here for about a week in total and I don't think I slept a single night because of the sounds from the street.

Greay stay, again in a professional hostel.

The room was very spacious, even with 12 people there was plenty of walking space. Having your own shower and toilet in the room is certainly an advantage and gives a feeling of privacy. The bunk beds are very sturdy and so is the mattress. The breakfast is generous. A very professional hostel, set up to offer accommodation to many travelers.

No significant negatives.

Excellent service and price of room is reasonable

I and my family like the hospitality of their staff.

What we didn't like is the breakfast buffet coz there is no rice at all, only bread, salad and we are not used to it, but I believed it's their culture and this is not a big issue on us. Just an honest review only by a rice lover 😊 peace

Great breakfast but first dorm I was in was awful.

After much upset with my first dorm (see below), I was put in a lovely female dorm = quiet, everyone respectful, ok bathroom attached. BREAKFAST!!!!!! It was really impressive: with veg, eggs, different cheeses, halva, choc spread, cappuccino, yoghurt!!!! It made such a difference to the start of the day - especially when restaurants are so expensive in Tel-Aviv. LEFT LUGGAGE.

I arrived early and the staff member did not even try to accommodate me to go to my dorm early - which is a shame as I could have complained about it earlier. In the end, I had to arrive after an evening with my family and the dorm was awful. My bed was so high, I could hardly get up - and had to disturb the person below me. It was full of old men who groaned, yelled, sighed, snored, coughed and shuffled endlessly all through the night. I felt unsafe and sure I was going to get ill (the only time I got Covid was in a dorm in Israel!) Every time I fell asleep, I was woken by one of the men. It was completely inappropriate to put a woman of nearly 60 in this space. In the end, I went to the front desk in floods of tears. Martin was helpful and put me immediately into the lovely clean, quiet female dorm - which had lots of spare beds. What makes me upset and disappointed is that I could have been put here in the first place ...
