Hostel Equity Point, Marrakech

80, Derb El Hammam Mouassine Marrakech Medina, Medina, 40034 Marrakesh, Morocco (show on map)

Hostel Equity Point in Marrakech is a true gem in the heart of the city’s historic Medina. Originally established as a traditional riad, the property was thoughtfully restored and rebranded in 2007. It beautifully preserves the classic Moroccan architectural style, featuring an intricate inner courtyard that provides a peaceful, shaded escape from the bustling streets just outside its walls.

The design is a striking blend of old and new. While the building itself dates back centuries, it has been adapted to cater to modern travelers with a mix of private rooms and dormitories. One of its most distinctive features is the central courtyard, which has been cleverly reimagined to include a swimming pool, replacing a traditional fountain while maintaining the serene, inward-facing layout typical of high-end riads.

The social heart of the hostel is undoubtedly its expansive rooftop terrace. Equipped with hammocks and loungers, it offers panoramic views over the rooftops of the Medina toward the distant Atlas Mountains—an incredible spot for watching the sunset. It’s the perfect place to unwind with a drink after a day of exploring the nearby winding alleyways and vibrant markets.

Convenience is key here, as you are located just 300 meters from the iconic Jemaa el-Fnaa Square, the pulsating center of Marrakech. Other major landmarks, including Le Jardin Secret and various historic souks, are only a short walk away. Whether you are looking to shop for spices and textiles or simply soak in the city’s rich history, the location puts you right in the middle of the action.

Expert reviews

Telegraph review:

“A winning hostel with a wide choice of private and dorm rooms, a large pool, restaurant, hammam and a huge roof terrace, all set in a series of traditional houses in the heart of the medina. It offers a mix of dorms and private bedrooms, all nicely decorated and well maintained.”

It was pleasant

The facility is beautiful and the bathroom was neat. Each dorm bed has it’s own lightening and charging port, which was good.

They charged a refundable fee for the room keys. It’s better they only take the fee if the client lost the keys. It’s not nice to be debited for such things.

Beautiful and comfortable place in the heart of the Medina

Location right in the Medina- bit tricky to find, in alleys

Upper beds in dorms could have some light and shelf

Well worth it!

I have been there before, but tried the breakfast for the first time. It was the best breakfast I had in Marrakech and for only 18 DH. It is in the middle of the medina, the roof section is huge, covering multiple buildings. Excellent view on the roof as well. The walk to the entrance is 'interesting' through little alleys, but that is how it is in the Medina. You couldn't hear the Medina noise in the building, it is peace and quiet in the Riad. All in all, excellent place to stay for a very good price.

Minor thing. That you have to pay a separate deposit for the key and towel. I understand it, it is just -- 'unusual'. But you get it back.

Cute, comfy, conveniently located- everything you need for the price!

Great location within the medina! Right next to all the hustle and bustle, but the hostel itself was tucked away in a nice, quiet alley. The rooftop was the cherry on top! Spent sunset up there soaking in the view :)

The alley leading up to the hostel felt a little sketchy at times! Luckily, there is always a security guard outside the locked hostel. I would not want to walk home in the late evening through that tunnel.

Madinah review⁷gʻ⁷

Great dip pool around a central court area. Really friendly and helpful staff. Cool rooftop area the highest point in the madinah. The location once you got the hang of finding the place was great. It was 100m from main square and all the action.

The breakfast was poor for the price. Cold scrambled eggs bread and pancakes not really worth it considering what was available outside.

Beautiful hostel just don’t eat the food

The hostel itself is stunning, and very good value for money!
The view from the top is great as well, especially for sunset!
The pool is cold but very refreshing after a day exploring in the heat!
It is in a great location, walking distance to everything!
I felt like everything was clean and well maintained! And the staff are very friendly and helpful!

The hostel is in the centre of the medina but you have to walk down a dark secluded alley to get there so as a solo female traveller, it doesn’t feel super safe, especially at night!
The bathrooms are in the dorm rooms and have very noisy metal locks on their wooden doors, so if people used the bathroom in the night it woke me up!
Although it’s good having a restaurant in the hostel, the food is awful! They served me VERY uncooked chicken and when I told them they just offered to make more (I couldn’t eat after that) and didn’t offer a refund!

Great stay in the center of Medina

The pool was great. The staff was very helpful and I liked the location.

Everything extra was quite expensive. The restaurant wasn’t cheap.

Good but sketchy location

It was cheap and the reception staff were nice. The room has AC which is good and a bathroom with a hot shower.

Didn't really have any atmosphere or feel social.

Biggest issue is the kids trying to get money out of you, I had a kid follow me after telling him I didn't need help finding it and then stick his chest up in my face when I said I wasn't gonna give him money. The hostels down a dark alleyway and a big confusing so they seem to be praying on tourists. I pushed him out of my face and him and his friends shouted at me but nothing else. Luckily I'm a big guy but anyone else might be quite intimidated.

Great value for money and good location

One of the best hostels I have stayed in, great vibe, good food at an extra price but worth it.

The cleaning of the toilets is very low, there is mould on the shower apart from the useless shower curtain which does nothing there. This was the only reason why I didnt give this place a 10

Comfortable and worth the money

Comfy, cozy , friendly for solo travellers

Despite having a good central location in the old medina but it is sometimes tricky to get there as you have to know exactly what route you are going through.

Good Riad to discover Marrakech

Great rooftop, swimming pool, kind staff and everything is like on the pictures.
Location is great, 7 min from Jeema El Fna, 3min from souks. Area around the hostel is quite.
The staff is around 24/7 so they can help out at any time.
Beautiful Riad with traditionally decorated rooms.

There are restrictions on the usage of open spaces (opening times) probably to avoid noise in some areas, but it was still noisy where we stayed as it wasn’t restricted.
Swimming pool has opening hours. Our room was pretty humid, a dehumidifier would have been great.

If you have money to spend on a better hostel this would be your choise.

Very organized and well monitored. You could feel the premium hostel experience. Huge riad great to have multiple options. The pool is a nice touch. The restaurant bar area is brilliant.

It was a bit expensive and paying to rent a towel is a bit ridiculous.

Fair stay in the medina

Superb common area, both indoor and outdoor, and a great rooftop view. Everything is clean and well maintained.

The socket places are kind of concentrated, where most of the beds can't enjoy their own socket without bothering the others.

Lack of space for towel / cloth hanging, also the rooms isn't spacious, seems to me that the "crampmess" of the room is more like the budgeted alternatives in the city.

Great value for money and place to stay for a few nights in the center of Marrakech medina.

Excellent location and pretty nice and authentic riad. Rooms are great for few nights (not more than 3) and I have to point out that they were cleaning them and swapping towels every day which is incredibly nice.
The downside of this place is that people tend to hang out in the lobbies and common rooms and stay up late while being very loud. You can hear everything in the room.

Great place for no more than a couple of nights. Everything you need and the staff were so welcoming and on hand with wh

Over all the property has great facilities and location is perfect. Views at night on the roof terrace were spectacular over the city,
Pool was lovely but very very cold.

It was difficult to sleep as it was very noisy at night. Lots of students and papering walls and as it’s in the medina the call to pray was Beth loud and it woke you,

Good but ruined by one reception guy

The position is amazing, just a couple of minutes walking from the main square.
The inner courtyard is very relaxing, and the rooftop is also quite nice.

It would have been all good, if it wasn’t for the taxi service scam.
I requested a taxi from the airport that I paid 23 € (quite a loto already but fair).
The taxi ride was good, until the driver dropped me to meet one guy that was carrying my stuff with a cart to the hostel. Right before arriving this guy stops in a sketchy corridor and starts asking for money, I said many times I wasn’t going to give him money and he became super aggressive with me. He was initially asking for 20€ (as much as the taxi ride) and I gave him only 10.

But the real annoying thing was the hostel stuff reaction, when I told the guy at the reception he said initially that they were going to refund me, but I when I brought it up later to him he laughed in my face and said “everyone is asking for money here 😆”.
He didn’t understand that I bought a service from the hostel, and I wasn’t asked money from a random dude in the streets, but from someone that they assigned. Also, very rude of him of talking like I was a dumb tourist that was scammed in the streets, when I in fact payed for this service. Won’t come back nor recommend as a matter of principle.

Good management overall

Located in central Medina, good pool and staff is very friendly. Hot water available in the rooftop restaurant. The pool area is closed after 11pm but pretty quiet most of the time.

I don’t think I will stay inside the Medina next time, too busy and too much walking to the hostel lol.
The occasional power cut is not helpful.

Beautiful Riad 10 minutes away from jamaa el Fana

The room was beautiful (102)
The architecture is really nice, whether the private rooms area, or the shared rooms area around the pool, the salon, roof and restaurant were very nice
Amin the receptionist was very friendly and helpful

It's a long walking distance from the nearest street/drop point, around 12 minutes walk with bags, which was straining.

For payment, they charged us in MAD after converting it from euro with a higher rate for the euro (11 instead of 10.3)
I asked to pay in dollar as my card is USD, The POS machine had the option to pay in dollar but they said it didn't work, which made me pay extra % for bank fees.

The kingbed was a bit small for 2 persons and the wooden bed was not very stable, creeking sounds with any movement

Overpriced riad with nice architecture

The room is big, nice and spacious, its architecture is really nice
Amin the reception guy was very helpful and friendly

Room 102, There was no hot water in the room during our full stay, the reception guy tried to help in any way and call the maintenance, but we had to wait until the next day to get it fixed. We even had to go take a shower in one of the shared rooms.
The kingbed was small for 2 persons
LONG walk with bags, around 12 minutes, nearest street was either bab laksoor or jamaa el fna

Nice place to stay in heart of Medina

Hostel looks like every Riad in Marocco, it's really beautiful and position is in center of Medina. There is always somebody on reception in front and will help you with everything.
Breakfast for 5e is basic but tasty.
Big rooftop is nice, you have view on Medina. Also, bar on top sell beers.

When we come, two of our beds didn't been clean and ready but cleaner come really soon and make that two beds.
You don't get towels, one towel is 20 dirhams.
But biggest problem of room with 6 beds is size. It's really too small room for 6 people. Also some of lockers for personal things can't lock.
I travel with 5 friends so it was ok for us with 3 suitcase but I really don't know where will we place if we have it 6.

Comfortable stay, great location and walkable to many other places in Marrakesh!

The location was really near the market which opened till late, so you could do your shopping and eating around the area. There was air-conditioning and the heater works as well, so it made our stay comfy. There was hot water in the showers, bed was clean and comfy so it was a comfortable stay.

We told the reception twice, that we would need to deposit our luggage after check out and we will be back again in a few days to continue staying in the same hotel, we were told it was possible but only on the day of check-out they told us that the place to deposit our luggage will not have any supervision and people were able to access the storage area so we had to pay for lockers. The locker was only big enough to fit 1 huge luggage so we had to pay for 2 lockers for 3 days, it was 2 euros per night, wasn't expensive but just wished that we were told about this earlier as it was something we had to rush as we had to check-out in a short period of time before our next activity.

Also, just beware that when you arrive in the area at night - I arrived and while I was 3 minutes away, a guy approached me and asked if I was staying at Equity point, he said he was a local guide and said the route I was taking was closed, he said he would bring me another way and after a 3 minutes walk, he asked for tips and he said 2 euros was not enough. So just be cautious if you are arriving at night.

Not a bad experience, I’ll recommend.

The little walking distance to the square and how convenient it was.

On getting there the pool wasn’t good and I was told that it’ll take 3 days before it was available for use again.
The WiFi was a bit slow as it made me have to leave my room a couple times to have a stronger signal.
