Bed & Breakfast Casa Beleza, Rio de Janeiro
Expert reviews
“This lovely property dates back to the 1930s and was once a governor’s mansion. Tropical gardens overlook the picturesque pool, and you can sometimes spot toucans and monkeys in the surrounding foliage.”

Really nice place to stay. Great owners that are very helpful. Excellent breakfast. Plenty of nearby restaurants and bars.

Exceptional
Wonderful structure and location, good breakfast, calm district, full of nature, nice neighborhood, friendly hosts
The smell of the room was really unpleasant (horse-stall like.. probably related to the curtains, or to some fornitures). Suggestions from the hosts were some times discordant, and a bit pessimistic.

Fantastic Casa with beautiful garden!
Beautiful house , with a beautiful garden in a quiet part of Santa Teresa. We stayed in the bungalow (no 4) and had a good view on the garden. Within 5-10 min walking distance there are good bars and restaurants with live music. Breakfast is fantastic and the owners are very friendly and helpful, giving you lots of tips for your stay in Rio. Would love to stay here again!

We absolutely loved our stay in Casa Beleza! The hosts & staff are super friendly and helpful. The rooms are very clean and comfortable. Casa Beleza has a beautiful garden with a nice swimming pool that we enjoyed a lot. The neighbourhood is safe and much more quiet than the copacabana where we used to stay. The perfect ending of our days in Rio! I 100% recommend this accommodation.
Nothing, it was perfect.

An Astounding Place to Stay
Casa Beleza lives up to its name "House of Beauty" in every way. Our recently built guest suite is a separate building on the grounds surrounded by groomed mature gardens and tropical jungle. Our suite was spacious with lots of sitting room, 3 separate private balconies. The a/c worked perfectly and is positioned so that it doesn't blow directly onto the bed, although we usually opened our sliding doors to enjoy the evening breezes and bird song. Lots of great bedding & towels. Beautiful breakfast served each morning in the nicest of settings. And, if you wish to use it, there is a lovely secluded pool. The owner is a wonderful source of knowledge in English about where to visit, eat, and obtain any professional services needed. She speaks several other languages as well. She also arranged for us to be picked up at the airport by Fernando which was much appreciated. Casa Beleza is located in the lovely Santa Teresa area of Rio so you get the best of both worlds: a taste of real Rio plus all the tourist areas easily reached by Taxi or Uber. An interesting short walk takes you to 2 fabulous restaurants: the Aprazivel and the Tereza with many other bars and cafes nearby. It is a very rare experience when travelling for us to want to return early every afternoon to our accommodation, but we did here just for the pleasure of sitting on one of our terraces enjoying our before dinner drinks in the tropical forest, watching the tiny monkeys swing past on vines, listening to the colourful birds, and watching the pet turtles creep along the garden paths. We'd stayed 4 nights in the King suite ocean view at the Fairmont Copacabana when we arrived but we preferred our 4 nights at Casa Beleza. What a wonderful ending to a trip to Brazil!
Nothing. If I'd written up in advance my idea of the perfect place to stay to experience Rio, I would have missed some things that Casa Beleza takes for granted!

Pleasant
The location in Santa Theresa, the view from our room, the garden & breakfast was nice.
The steps up to the room I felt were dangerous they need a handrail.

Not the best
The host and team were very friendly and helpful
The bed was awful unfortunately which really impacted our enjoyment, very little sleep was had. It was rustic which we liked appearance wise but the shower leaked through the wall into the bedroom which wasn’t great

Great option, especially for those traveling on a budget.
Awesome breakfast: really generous helping of fruit, eggs, cheese, bread, tea/coffee and cereal. The portions were so large I was usually so full I wouldn't even need to eat lunch. Nice Hosts: Bindu and Antoine were really nice hosts. Always happy to give travel tips, answer question and they really had a positive vibe/attitude. Aesthetics: The place itself was beautiful from the outdoor areas to the interior design. As an animal person, it was also really cool to see different kinds of birds, lizards and the pet turtles. Location: I loved Santa Teresa, as many other reviews suggest its a great place to mix with locals but still quite safe as well as do tourist activities. Also really great hikes and awesome views.
Comfort: The biggest thing for me was the lack of air conditioning especially in the middle of Brazilian summer, a fan really doesn't do the job. The property is also a bit small, it's hard to tell from the pictures but there isn't much space to roam. Even the pool is only about 4 metres long, great for cooling yourself off in the heat but not ideal for a swim. Check Out: I'm nitpicking a little here but an 11 am check out is slightly early, most properties I've been to, allow for a midday check out especially on weekends. You're also typically allowed to stay on the property and use any shared facilities until you're ready to leave, provided you've checked out of your room. Therefore, I was a little disappointed to learn that if I wanted to remain on the property until my flight later that day, I would have to pay extra. At the very least, they did let me leave my stuff in the garage for free.

Passable
Nice facilities and area. Good breakfast nicely served in the garden. Great pool and garden. Compared to hotel it was a big room.
Bed was not good. Instead of one big madras we had two madrasses that kept drifting apart. Bed was too soft. Cleanliness was OK but not perfect, e.g. dirty drawers and closet. Private bathroom but across public hallway. All in all not competitive with other offers

Had a lovely time many thanks
Traditional house with lovely period rooms, it had character! It’s also in a great location, with bars and restaurants near. we found it easy to get taxi’s into the main Tourist areas and back.
For those with limited movement, the stairs in the upper rooms could be an issue, but I know the owners are at pains to explain this to all that book.
