W Shanghai – The Bund truly delivers on W Hotels’ promise of a playful, luxury experience. As a frequent traveler and an architect, I can recognize positive differences when I see them. The hotel’s modern design, vibrant atmosphere, excellent dining, and attentive staff create a stay that feels both elegant and fun.

W Shanghai – The Bund impresses with striking design, smartly laid-out rooms, and a superb location. My “Cool Corner” room on the 23rd floor was an architectural highlight with sweeping views and stylish interiors. Everything felt high-end, beautifully equipped, and immaculately clean – housekeeping was exceptional, even leaving handwritten notes that added a personal touch. Breakfast was outstanding, with a wide variety of Asian and Western options, a salad bar with generous bowls, and an excellent live egg station. The spa was tastefully designed, and my first massage was carried out with great professionalism. The outdoor pool was a visual highlight – with jaw-dropping skyline views over Lujiazui, especially at night, making it a true photo moment. The location is excellent, with easy access to the metro, shopping centres and the Bund within walking distance.

Some staff felt a little reserved – not unkind, but lacking the warmth expected at this level. My second massage missed the mark: although I had clearly requested a gentle detox treatment with a focus on the hands, the therapist instead concentrated intensely on my neck tension. She proposed an extension, which I politely declined, and I asked several times for her to continue with the standard full-body treatment. Only after firmly requesting it did she adjust the focus. Good intentions, but guest preferences must come first, especially at this price point. The pool area, while visually stunning, had downsides: not enough loungers, no bar or drinks service, and worst of all, a motion-activated shower at the outdoor pool entrance that sprays guests automatically – hard to avoid, even if you’re just there to relax. It’s an unacceptable design flaw.

Fresh green juice is not available which is disappointing 😰

Private tour arrangements from the hotel have to be paid by cash or Alipay only, this can be very inconvenient as not everyone carry much cash nowadays nor not everyone had Alipay account.

View is the highlight. But Curtains do not block out light, not sure if it is the structural reason of the window. Love the design of bathroom blue glass, which can be turned off.

Outdoor pool was under maintenance, didn't receive any communication until checkin. That was a shame, because the pool is a highlight of the hotel

everything but the details to perfection... food in both the kitchen and the Zen restaurants was excellent. the spa is excellent helpfulness of concierge staff amazing.

two details to perfection... the bed in my room, though large, was a bit too soft for my liking. the bath gel dispenser was not working properly in the shower.

Amazing hotel. Staff are professional and very helpful. Our room was amazing. We took an upgrade offer and the view was spectacular, looking directly towards the Pear Tower and other buildings across from the Bund. We only stayed one night, but it was a really good start to our holiday in China. Would absolutely stay again.

The W Shanghai has amazing views of the Bund, and the city itself, making it difficult to leave the room when staring at the horizon. Facilities were amazing and diverse, with pool, whirlpool/jacuzzi, restaurants, clubs and bars. Room was clean and spacious, with all of the amenities needed.

Room service was not the best tasting (a little bland), which was disappointing. Decor is a little funky, but that it is to be expected at the W.

room was amazing, along with the view. Facilities in the room and out were terrific. Also going the extra mile to decorate the room and deal with my requests for flowers was brilliantly done by the staff.

Bathroom mat logistics could have been better with the design of the room but other than that, nothing.

This hotel is amazing. Fantastic! It is one of the most beautiful hotels I have ever been to. The staff is professional, friendly, and helpful. The location is great. The room is large and equipped with everything you may need. I had a room with window on the Bund and I couldn't stop looking at the stunning view. The facility is modern and elegant. Many thanks to all the staff, for the pleasant stay, and to Claire, who sent a cake to our room for the birthday of my son! ❤️

The hotel is stunning! We had absolutely best time. The room was huge with so many various details. The interior is beautiful and very well thought. The room styling was so on point every day during both cleaning and turn down. The breakfast is just next level - so much variety and quality is unmatched. The staff is extremely professional and organised. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. The location is amazing - on north bund with the best views yet it’s not very busy and crowded. Will 100% be back!

The location was amazing. The room also, I was in a mega room with a spectacular view. Special thanks to Claire form the department loyalty who helped me a lot at the check in with very good advise. It was a pleasure to make the check out with her also. The breakfast was very good and planty of choices. I’m a W fan and this one in Shanghai is one of the best.

In every way imaginable, the W is top-notch. Their facilities are impeccable, from the gorgeous onsen in the locker rooms, to the beautiful indoor pool & jacuzzi, to the imaginative and spacious rooms, I could not be any more impressed!

There’s literally nothing to not like about the W. It’s perfect in every way.

Everything was amazing. We had a corner room and the view was superb. All amenities you could wish for. Loved the bath by the window. Breakfast choices were beyond anything we have ever experienced. We also enjoyed the Chinese restaurant in site and cocktails at the woobar and wet bar. Service was outstanding throughout. Location great for exploring the Bund.

Great modern hotel with exceptional service

The place is amazing, the people are amazing. We got upgraded to a room with better view, and they accommodated our request of a high floor as well as late checkout.

Two small things: 1. I came in at 11am and though it was made very clear to me that the hotel was fully booked and the room couldn't be ready before the normal 3pm time, the room was indeed only ready around 3.30pm. It was a bit disappointing because we have two kids, among whom one one month old baby, and it would have been great if the room had been ready earlier. I hold no grudge against this though. 2. Tiny tiny thing: your weighing scale gave my wife and me three more kilograms than ours at home. Though I had the brunch at your restaurant the same day, I doubt it was possible I gained so much weight. My wife said "this machine is insulting us" XD. Anyway, again: thanks a lot for a great stay.

So perfect u can ask for a 5 strs hotel . Fr the breakfast buffet Mr Ben. He is so helpful to make us feel so inportant and also Mr luke the best manager I think he is. fr the concierge Mr Jeff he make sure we r safe to get us a taxi.. and of cors Mr Carlie fr the loyalty he make sure our needs is being attended . . I am happy we r back to Mariott hotel family once again I wil make sure pn our next trip . MARIOTT will be our first choice. Thanks highly recommend.

That they let people from outside use the gym and pool area so it actually gets hectic with kids and the sauna area that supposed to be relaxing isn’t really relaxing

What isn’t to love! We had an incredible room with a gorgeous view. The decor is colourful and fun, and we certainly enjoyed spending time in the room. Beautiful bathroom and we were not crowded even with an extra bed for our adult daughter! The staff were exceptionally helpful! Buffet, one of the best I’ve been too. Loved the view from the bar too.

The only negative is that the pool closes at 6pm.

Perfect location. Perfect restaurant. Room brilliant. While some of the people working there do not speak fluently English, well they were so helpful and lots of personality. You could get by. I actually live their way. Particurly in the bar a professional girl called Alix I can see this young woman go far. She is very charismatic and always welcoming. I thought she was great for customers advising on cocktail perfect. As for the music go a floor up and Simon from UK will make you dance to end of night. The music in that hotel day and night is absolutely great. Loved it! Another point there is always someone calling for your lift before you even arrived. Truly the best hotel I ever stayed.

The outdoor pool was closed due to been rainy season wanted to get photo there but staff seemed to not understand and guide me to the way I had to climb over a barrier later found there was a way trough the restaurant!!

The hotel staff were very professional, kind, welcoming, and always eager to help answering to any request. Room was pretty spacious, very clean, well equipped and with a fantastic view over the Lujiazui financial center. The outdoor swimming pool with the view was amazing with the perfect weather during our stay. Massage was very good as well. Breakfast is amazing.

The main restaurant is not serving the whole a-la-carte menu during the whole day. Choice of dishes before 5.30pm (official dinner opening time) was limited which is surprising in a hotel of such high standard.
