Foundation Hotel, Detroit

It was close to the convention center. Bar staff were the absolute best. I don’t drink so I went for a mocktail which was delicious. Michael, Sean, and another gentleman were incredibly friendly and kind, and they made us feel welcome.

The guy who managed the restaurant was always curt, unfriendly, and seemed really stressed all the time. The room was lackluster and felt a bit dated - the decor would’ve been cool 5 years ago. Also, I put on the robe in my room to try it on and found half a pack of lucky strikes and a lighter, which says to me that those robes aren’t checked, cleaned, or changed out. For the price point, I had higher expectations.

The hotel is beautifully decorated, the bedrooms are roomy with comfortable beds and excellent toiletries. Restaurant staff are excellent.

How well this historic building was put together to create a beautifully modern hotel.

We were told we couldn’t sit in the lounge/restaurant area although there weren’t many people there. It was snowing, we loved the view. It would’ve been nice to have somewhere to just lounge around.

Beautiful 2017 reimagination of old firehouse. We had call 3Xs to another hotel, which had a block of rooms for the wedding we traveled for. Glad we found the Foundation. Easy check in, and out. Very good fitness room.. Thank you.

Our room was very dusty and the couch had not been vacuumed or cleaned. The floor had dirt and dust bunnies

The Frette towels and LaLabo amenities were terrific. Room size was generous. Decor throughout the hotel was almosssttt there. Some areas were filled with character of the historic building but the hallways felt vacant and sterile. Robes are a great match to the hotel vibe.

Reception staff wasn't as welcoming as I expected. They were professional and kind - just a bit reticent it seemed, to welcome and be confident in the great space they offer. No coffee or hot water maker in the room.

Modern hotel with striking design and a great restaurant, set inside a charming old firehouse building. Excellent service and a beautifully decorated lobby for the holidays. Musicians playing live added a warm, memorable atmosphere. Our second visit, and we’d gladly return.

I remember from our first visit the tables showcasing old newspapers, photos, and memorabilia under glass. I miss that design detail, it brought so much character to the space and made the building’s history feel even more present.

The atmosphere of the lounge and restaurant are top notch. The cocktails were delicious and perfect for a nightcap.

Room Service had to be actively requested on a Daily Basis which is Not acceptable for this hotel category / room charge. In addition, even when requested the service was not always provided.

Property was clean and beautiful.

There was a slight sewer smell in my room. Not terrible but noticeable.

The room was unique and felt very modern. The bathroom was spacious and had a wonderful shower. The desk staff was very helpful answering questions.

I know this was an upscale hotel but would have liked to have a microwave in the room and an ice machine on the floor. Had to ask the bartender for ice for water bottle.

This hotel was a great boutique size, it wasn't too large and it had a very cool style. My son had a health issue while we were there and the staff were all really supportive and responsive. We really enjoyed our stay here.

Valet was a little slow to get your vehicle, especially in the morning. I wouldn't mind seeing more security features in the elevator to tap the room key in order to go up to the rooms.

Good location, nice bar.

No coffee in rooms, rooms very dark/need more lighting. There was some plaster work being done on our floor (4th) and there were white plaster footprints and stains all the way down the hall past our door which were there for several hours. I told someone at the front desk and they didn't apologize or offer to suggest someone would clean it up. Very unsightly and unclean.

Loved the décor. Nicely equipped room. Really good hot shower. Great location. Beautifully done lounge/restaurant. Nice view. Definitely recommend.

No coffee maker in the room. If you're a light sleeper the HVAC system in the suite is quite loud and unless I missed it the wall control didn't seem to have an off button, only temp control.

The fitness facility is my favorite. The location you restaurants and freeway too.

Restaurant being remodeled

The Staff was pleasant and super helpful. We ate a late dinner at the bar in the lobby the first night and was surprised at the elevated menu. The food was good and service was excellent. Our room was quiet and comfortable. The building is interesting. The location was great for going to the Ford Field.

This room was pricy for what we got. I would note that we were there for a Lions football game and the rate was likely elevated due to this event. Otherwise, it was a good stay and would visit again.

Very cool hotel in the heart of downtown Detroit. Walkable to Ford Field/Comerica Park. Former Fire Station with super cool lobby and excellent restaurant and funky/cool/comfortable rooms. Great experience and would very happily stay again.

Had some noisy neighbors one night, but knocked on the door and asked them to chill out--they did.

The ventilation in the room was very noisy. It was impossible to sleep.

Location is excellent with everything you need within walking distance.staff was all friendly and courteous. Rooms and common areas are unique unlike a chain with a story and a beauty all their own. Restaurant bar was a destination all its own with good food, decor, and great staff as well.

Not a cheap place to stay, but even so, it was a great value.

The food was amazing! And the drinks I had were probably the best Amaretto Sours I’ve ever had anywhere, and I’m hard to impress. The historic building with its firehouse charm is a very unique experience and we will be returning, the room was small but beautifully restored and decorated!

We did not stay for breakfast. We left very early for an appointment and the manager eagerly went to get us some freshly made coffee to go. The restaurant had a nice bar and we we able to go for drinks the evening that we checked in and we enjoyed their cocktail menu.

It was a lovely hotel and seemed newly renovated. The in-house restaurant was a little pricey.

It has a great open lounge. The whole location has character as it used to be a firestation. Our dinner meal was absolutely excellent and would go there just for the food! All staff was helpful and friendly. Valet worked well for our car.

I asked for towels to be replenished and they lost that request..
