St Regis Hotel, Vancouver

602 Dunsmuir St, Vancouver, BC V6B 1Y6, Canada (show on map)

The St. Regis Hotel in Vancouver is a historic, independent boutique property that first opened its doors in 1913. Designed by the notable architect W.T. Whiteway, the building has served as a downtown landmark for over a century. During the 1940s, it earned the nickname the “Sportsman’s Hotel,” famously hosting NHL legends and even housing the team that would eventually become the Vancouver Canucks.

Today, the hotel perfectly balances its heritage roots with a contemporary, New York-inspired aesthetic following a major multi-million dollar renovation for its 100th anniversary. Because it occupies a historic structure, each of its 65 rooms features a unique layout, offering a character that modern, cookie-cutter hotels simply can’t replicate. Guests often rave about the small luxuries, like the heated marble floors found in the bathrooms.

Art is central to the hotel’s personality, with a curated collection of modern, abstract works displayed throughout the corridors and common areas. Beyond the aesthetics, it remains a fantastic base for explorers. You are steps away from the Pacific Centre for shopping, and just a short walk from the Vancouver Art Gallery and the bustling, historic Gastown district.

Dining is another highlight, as the property partners with the acclaimed Gotham Steakhouse, located right on-site. Whether you are in town for business or looking to enjoy the nearby waterfront, the St. Regis provides a sophisticated, intimate escape in the heart of Vancouver’s busy downtown business district.

Expert reviews

Lonely Planet review:

“Transformed in recent years, St Regis is now an art-lined boutique sleepover in a 1913 heritage shell. Befitting its age, almost all the rooms seem to be a different size, and they exhibit a loungey élan with leather-look wallpaper, earth-toned bedspreads, flatscreen TVs and multimedia hubs.”

Fodors review:

“It’s the oldest continuously operating hotel in the city, but edgy, modern decor livens up the 1913 boutique property and Canadian artwork and select heritage furnishings give it a unique sense of place.”

Forbes review:

“The St. Regis Hotel is a boutique property occupying a heritage building in the heart of Vancouver’s bustling business district. It originally opened in 1913, but was thoroughly updated during a 2008 overhaul, and thanks to its vintage build, the hotel’s 65 rooms and suites each sport unique layouts.”

Telegraph review:

“The building dates back 100 years here, but rooms are bang up to date, with all the modern conveniences that today’s travellers want. Not only does this downtown hotel score highly for its location, it also impresses for the excellent value for money. From breakfast to Wi-Fi, there are no hidden extra costs.”

I would come back to this hotel without any hesitation. Please make the breakfast a bit more upmarke

Location was excellent. Near to the airport Skytrain which made getting into the city and the St. Regis very easy. Staff were friendly . The room in this heritage building was great.

The breakfast was less than memorable. I did enjoy the mixed berry smoothie.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay, the rooms were elegant, clean, and the bed was comfortable. Location and staff were great!

This is a very attractive, remodeled traditional hotel with really elegant rooms, luxurious bathrooms, bathrobes, and top quality products, along with a very helpful, pleasant staff. They went out of their way at several points to accommodate me. The breakfast was excellent and they packed one to go for me the last day. The hotel is conveniently situated near bus and subway lines and under 10 minutes from the main train station. The art museum is a short walk and the Pacific center a block away. It was under 30 minutes to the airport. An excellent deal especially with the breakfast promotion!

I enjoyed the property fully. It has a room in the lobby with computers and a printer. The breakfast room is large with paintings everywhere. It does not have a fitness room. They might consider setting up a reciprocal arrangement with a local gym for visitors at a discount. It has excellent coffee in the room—mine had no fridge or minibar but there is room service. A bar restaurant in the hotel, which was a local favorite, closed recently but an excellent French patisserie/coffee shop is located inside the building and is quite popular. One of the nicest hotels I’ve stayed in over the last few years.

Overall was very good.

Breakfast, room and shower. Breakfast was great. The room was quiet even though it is next to a busy street. Bathroom floor was heated and the shower head was excellent. The place was in the middle of the town with easy access to bus and tram service.

The floor carpet was not cleaned as I expeected.

Excellent location, top notch facilities (including heated bathroom floor), great service. Overall a wonderful experienc

Wonderful location. Heart of the city and everything is at a walkable distance. Breakfast was really nice and the bathroom had heated floors. Even the other posh hotels we’ve stayed at doesn’t have that feature! 10/10 highly recommended

Since it is in the heart of the city, often the traffic noises may come at night and early hours of the morning.

Great hotel, excellent location and staff, just be aware of room pricing to avoid surprises!

Breakfast (included) was excellent -- not a buffet! Location was great and staff were superb. We would likely stay here again.

The variable room pricing was odd. I inquired and apparently most (all?) Vancouver hotels are doing this.

Excellent place for clean and pleasant stay

Location is walking distance to Canada Place.
Beds and pillows super comfortable.
Breakfast was excellent. 3 choices.
Bathroom essentials all from L’occitane brand.
Room carpet looks very new. Room we had was spotlessly clean.

Travelling companion stayed in room facing street complain of noise from streets.
Smoky smell detected late night probably from vaping or smoking not sure.

Great staff, very comfortable rooms and beds.

The most comfortable bed, had a great nights sleep. Staff were very helpful. Breakfast was delicious and included.

The bar lounge was very dark and the clientele was mostly non guests. Because its not associated with the hotel and another entire establishment it was a little off putting.

The hotel was great!

Didn't realize Vancouver was so rough! I am not sure if it was the location of the hotel or the city in general. The homelessness was high! I felt safe at the hotel. Thank you!

The smoothie at breakfast was like a cup of sugar! I would have liked that described a bit differently.

Great base for a short stay in downtown Vancouver

The breakfast was good and the staff friendly though the menu options were limited. The bed was comfy and the bathroom was spacious and well appointed - the shower was excellent. The nespresso coffee machine was good. The location was great for downtown, minutes away from Gastown and close to bus routes to get across the city.

Our room was at the back of the hotel with large beige wall view and below the window, a mass of AC units which was noisy all the time and did impact our sleep.
