Generator Hostel, Venice

-The reception staff was very friendly. -The common bar area was pleasant, well-decorated, and had a few games. -The beds were comfortable, and the hotel had an elevator.

-The rooms were a good size, but there were so many beds that it was difficult to open the drawer under the bed. There was no space. It was very cramped. -The hostel shares a common area with a bar on the ground floor, so you can't eat or drink there; you can only eat in your rooms or sit on the sidewalk. -There's also no kitchen. -They charge €9 to wash and dry clothes (dryer #5 doesn't dry well, leaving them damp after 2 hours). -Please note that the hostel is located on an island accessible only by boat. A three-day riverboat pass costs €45.

Location is absolutely perfect, even though it is on Giudecca and not Venice, the view from the hostel is absolutely amazing and vaporetto is just few meters from it and has good connections. Bed was ok, not the best, not the worst.

Bathroom has only one sink, which can get a bit overcrowded. Would have loved it the bathroom had any squeegees or clothes to wipe away water.

Clean and nice staff

The location is not the best , you have to take the water bus , if you’re staying for a day it’s not he best spot to take. Also the beds doesn’t have the cover sheet on which doesn’t make sense because o arrived late at night and couldn’t cover my bed probably , I think it’s something that should be ready for you when you arrive

Staff were very helpful and able to speak English to me. Location was great - much closer to mainland Venice than I’d imagined only 5 mins by water taxi. And around 1 hour to Marco Polo airport. Breakfast deals were nice and good value!

Not enough sinks/ toilets/ showers. Found the showers very public as no locked area so was difficult and could be lots of people around at peak times.

Checking in and out was quick and easy. Rooms and bathrooms were tidy and comfortable. Location is right on the water and walking distance of the water bus. The communal space is nice and lively.

Staff were not the friendliest. Prices at the bar are quite steep.

The location is good, but you need to get the boat to get there. The common area is very nice and the bathroom is big and clean. I loved it.

It is a little expensive for a hostel, but in Venice all the other options are even more expensive, so i believe this is a great option.

Location is great. I had a room which was occupied by 7 people and it was great. My friend shared a room for 16 people and it was really busy.

There is no kitchen. Bathroom at the ground floor was dirty.

The hostel's location is really good, just 10min by boat and you will be in the center of Venezia The staff was really nice and helpful There is a bar/caffe on the lower floor so you can have drinks, there was a party on saturday night it was fun

The bathroom wasn't really clean, there is only one bathroom for each room and no proper space to change after the shower so we have to lock the door and therefore no one can use the toilets There is another bathroom with 2 showers for the floor but the door doesn't lock so as there is no space to change at all it's not really usable The dormitories are narrow, no space for luggage No kitchen or fridge, and the laundry is quite expensive (4.50€ for washing, same for drying, and 2€ for laundry soap)

Super friendly staff, great location, near to the vapporeto stop, good options for breakfast and drinks.

You have to pay to store your luggage before you get the accommodation. You have to pay for a towel, maybe you could include this in the price or give an option to add it when the booking is made.

Staff are very friendly and accommodating! They are very helpful and if you want some peace and quiet place, then this hostel is good!

Everything is great except for the location. You need to get into the boat and go to the other side of the canal.

The hotel was clean and quiet. The room cleanliness was good, but the cleanliness of the bathrooms wasn't excellent. To reach the hotel, you had to take a boat, which cost ten euros each time. Though, maybe I just didn’t know a better way—there might be another route. The hotel was very close to a large canal, which made it amazing. At night, I couldn’t get enough of the view by the water, the sound of the water, and the peaceful silence.

I like all the structure and organization from all the rooms,

I dont like the clean of the bathrooms, and also no support(dry) to put the clothes when you will go take the shower, the rest all perfect.

The hostel far away from city center 25-35 minutes but if you have a get waterbus ticket will be handy for arrive here. The bar&restaurant is really nice . I think the good place for explore Venice .

I had to pay hair dryer and towels . The bathroom is not nice actually.

It is in a very beautiful somewhat hidden spot in Venice. Facilities are nice and beds are comfortable.

Sometimes showers do not work properly. There is no kitchen available, although the place seems big enough to fit one.

I liked the location of the hostel. It was not on the main island, but not far from it either. I checked in at 1am - quite easily reaching the island on #2 at that time and had the help of the guy at the reception. The paid breakfast was of good quality. They also have a water filter I wish I’d known on day one.

The automatic lights in the toilet which switch off when you’re the only one in the toilet and taking a shower in the cubicle. You must step out of the cubicle to get it switched on again. I also wish they had hooks in the cubicle to hand towels and clothes. They could also attach some curtains to beds to provide more privacy when asleep.

Cozy and well maintained space

The fact that this property is on the the other side of the canal makes it difficult to get to the city centre without a boat pass.

Its still a hostel and I'm not a fan of them however this one did make me have a higher opinion of them

Decent hostel but i would reconsider going to Venice. It’s just a big tourist trap mall inside a crumbling facade of a once beautiful city that has graffiti everywhere. The only time it is beautiful is at night but they shut the bathrooms down at 8:00pm. And if you try and escape and go to the mainland, and the find out your a tourist, the alarm sounds and miserable old italian women will come and scowl at you with sour faces until you go back to the tourist trap where you belong!

The experience at the hostel wasn’t entirely bad, but there were several things that disappointed me. What impacted me the most was having to share a room with a lady around 60 years old who was clearly unwell. She spent most of the time in bed, burping, and it made me feel uncomfortable and unable to properly enjoy my stay. I was expecting a more youthful and dynamic atmosphere, typical of a hostel for travellers, but it seems they accept guests of any age. Another downside was the Wi-Fi connection – it didn’t work at all on the third floor. The signal only improved as I got closer to reception, and it worked properly in the bar. However, I had to use my mobile data from the room, which I found quite inconvenient. Also, the bar was closed on Saturday and only a few sandwiches were available. I ended up paying €10 for a Coca-Cola and a vegetarian sandwich which, to make things worse, made me feel unwell. Honestly, after this experience, I think I would’ve preferred to stay in Mestre instead.

Object is nice,interesting, clean. Beds are clean, guests were also all keeping the house order. It is very nice atmosphere there.

Location - it is not hard to get to it,but the problem is expencive public transport in Venice. One way ticket for a few minutes for waterbus is 9.50 euros. Youth have some discount according to the accomodation in hostel,but we older than 30,don't. So the last price of f.e. one night is much higher at the end. Also,no common kitchen. There is a nice bar with drinks and foods and prices are normal,any way,if you don't pay,you can not make a breakfast or coffe by your self.

Very large and probably the only hostel in the heart of Venice. The room is big and the number of beds was enormous, but somehow it didn't feel overcrowding or smelly. The bed was fresh and comfortable. Also the location is good: You wake up, get out and enjoy the perfect view on the Doge's Palace, and Judecca is a place where you can find normal non-touristic bars.

Strangely enough, there were two bathtabs, two toilets but only one sink in a bathroom, I imagine queues in the morning.

Loved it all nice friendly staff

I think the hostel had been recently renovated and looked clean and modern. We picked it because it was one of the few ones that was affordable, accessible and had a private bathroom. The room was reasonably spacious, although the beds' positioning meant we hit our feet on the bed legs quite a few times. The location was excellent, as although not very central, it was very close to 2 vaporetto stops. There were also a few shops nearby and an excellent small pizza place, all within easy walking distance. Staff were excellent, very friendly and accommodating.

The walls were fairly thin between rooms, so on the first night we could hear our next door neighbours until quite late (luckily I packed earplugs as I'm a light sleeper). Also the walls had a window at the top for some reason, which would still afford you privacy, but that meant that when the next door neighbours kept their light on we were able to see it. Also with it being a hostel, each bed had its own little light around the headboard and the switch was placed so poorly that each night I'd turn it on a few times while turning in bed. Another thing I found weird is that you had to "hire" towels at reception for Eur5.

Had enough room and was clean despite the amount of people staying

Relaxed ambience for the evening. There are tons of things to do to keep yourself occupied. Staff were lovely. It's not the easiest place to get too but quite self explainitory one you understand venice transport. Great value for money Highly recommend.

The accommodation itself is beautiful, elegant, and very well designed – it’s truly a pleasure to stay here. However, contrary to what was described, the walls are not soundproof at all. This became quite apparent as there was a large school group staying in the next rooms, and they were incredibly loud, completely ignoring any rules. The noise level was so high, it felt like being in a stadium, which was extremely disturbing. Even normal conversations could be heard through the walls, let alone the uncontrollable shouting. While I understand the problem is not the hostels fault I do believe they should avoid hosting such large school groups, as they clearly disrupt the experience for other guests. Another downside was the fact that luggage storage, unlike at other accommodations, was not free here. It was quite expensive, especially considering that I was already staying at the property. It would have been nice if they provided guests the option to store their luggage before check-in and after check-out without an additional charge. It left me with the impression that, although the property offers many services, most of them come with an extra fee.

Very well located, right next to a vaporetto stop that is less than a 10 minute ride away from San Marco Square. The overall amenities are nice, the common space on the ground floor was well equipped and comfy, the bedrooms seemed to have been recently renovated.

The bedroom was fair too small for the amount of beds, it was difficult to walk around and take stuff out/put stuff into your luggage. The bathroom for the 10 person room should have more than just one shower and toilet. I had to pay an extra fee to get a lower bunk.

There was no shared kitchen like in most hostels.

Amazing common areas and nice bar/cafe. Staff was friendly. Location is great. Room was rather crammed with too many beds and little space. Bathrooms and showers were small. All in all good experience and value for money.

There was only one washbasin in shared bathroom for several people. Bathroom facilities need to be improved.

Fabulous, peaceful location; cosy room, great social area with big tv screen, pool table, nice cafe with good prices. Quite a few rules/observations seemed to ensure guests were respectful. Staff, especially Alberto, were quite 'no nonsense' but helpful and kind. The bathrooms seemed very clean, and all areas were well looked after.

The room light by my bed was weak and then not working. The room was a little bit warmer than I would have liked. Traveling back and forth is expensive as this is across the water from SanMarco—ideal if you get a travel pass, but it could be expensive if not.

I can't really say much for the breakfast as I didn't have any breakfast from the hostel.

I thought that the showers and toilets could have been perhaps a little bit more cleaner.

I wish the shower’s where a bit different and I didn’t like the fact that in addition to the hostel price I had to buy a 35€ pass for 72h to be able to cross the canal using the ferry boat

It was my third time experiencing the Generator hostel in a different city, and I liked. The accommodation was comfortable, the café and lounge are great spaces to be, the staff is also really good.

I would say the lockers. I would love to have a locker with a key because, without one, your backpack or luggage would be unprotected. Also, the toilets only have two showers for two rooms with 11 beds each, which is really a mess. Aldo it's in a Island, which is not bad, but if you just want to stay for one night you have to buy 1-day Venice pass which is 25€ or just a single pass, to go and come back, which is 9.50€ each.

Very good location, just a short walk with 2lines of boat at the stop nearby. Quiet at night. Restaurant for afforded dinner and good breakfast.

The 16 bedded dorm is quite crowded, I will book less bed dorm next time.
