Generator Hostel, Venice

The hostel is cozy and nice, and everything was great, except that you have to pay €5 for a towel.

The entrance makes a very good impression. Good coffee. From the Cafeteria you can see across the water the Dodge Palace ❤️ Clean and comfortable bed. good money value

Bathroom was dirty. My fault, I didn't read carefully the description, that Generator is also a party hub. On the evening of my accomodation there was a party downstairs and one could hear everything. Luckily it ended at 23 o'clock.

Nice location, low price, clean, friendly staff

No usb charging plugs unlike other generator hostels, and the sockets are a bit weird. Had to purchase an adapter from the hostel. The bathroom doors were broken.

The location was good, easy to get the vaporetto.

The rooms were really small and there was no kitchen.

it was a mixed room, I thought it was going to be very uncomfortable but it was nice bed with all the necessary things. it was good. And the staff were very friendly, kind and helpful.

the location was quiet superb place to have Sun rise and Sun set view point. The room and bed also good to accommodate for a single person. for one night stay it is a good option.

The rest rooms could be more than one in a floor or for a room and also room light is a common one that may disturbs others sleep.

If the female staff at the reception was replaced by a robot, I would feel the same effect. A little more attention would make everyone feel good. Other than that, great location and attention. And the bunk beds are very close to each other.

Clean towel and bed sheets. Food was good and some guys from kitchen, bar and reception were nice and friendly.

Location - it is not cheep to go with the only public transport -waterbus to city center and back. Find attached photo FYI. Not enough equipment in the bathroom. No place to put soap or shampoon when taking the bath. Voise prof is terrible. 2 nights from 3 can't sleep, as people from street and next room were having fun. Didn't work even asking to the reception, just for a short time. Not good choise for a long stay , may be for a night. Pictures and reality is different.

The hostel looked very fancy and stylish on the inside. Perfect for chilling. The staff was also very friendly.

The hostel is not on the main island, so it's dependent on the ferry/water taxi. There were too many beds in one room. The price is relatively high for a hostel. The bathrooms are outdated.

ok location but on the island that you have to take extra transfer there, the common area is very nicely designed, snack available and friendly guy at the check-in.

You have to pay extra boat ticket to get there, beds were not with the courtains, no hangers or place to put the things, bathroom also not very practical. They wanted to charge for luggage storage before check-in 5 eur per piece.

The staff is really excellent, everything is well organized. The island location is great in some ways but then to reach it you have to buy this expensive vaporetto ticket

The concept of a hostel with no kitchen and no external food and drinks allowed is strange, since a hostel is a money saving choice for travelling.

Location, decoration and sound isolation was very good. The bed was very comfortable. Good locker under the bed (Though you need to have a lock to lock it). The bar serves good coffee and other basics for a fair price.

The basin of the toilet was pretty dirty and the shower sliding doors where not working properly. It was not comfortable to get undressed or dressed in the bathroom ‘cause it had only one little stool. No access to a kitchen. To consume your own food in the hostel is not permitted. I stayed only one night. Unluckily there was a private party taking place in half part of the common area. That was pretty unfair.

Staff is friendly and helpful, always there to work with you through your questions or just to chitchat. The location is really good: just 15 minutes by vaporetto till Arsenale or Gardini (important to me because I was visiting Biennale). Pretty cheap compared to other options in Venice.

There is no kitchen, and they don't allow external food or drinks inside the hostel lobby (they do have a cafe with coffee and croissants and kinda restaurant type kitchen in the evening). While they are affordable, it still costs more than cooking on your own. The common showers don't have enough space: on 1st floor where I was staying one shower room had only one sink with two toillets and two showers which are directly in front of each other, there's literally no space when you try to have shower. Subsequently, not enough space to put your toiletries or clothes if you're not alone in there (you never are). Another shower on the same floor had more space. The common area of the hostel is sometimes booked for private events so the bigger part is closed for the residents. The lockers are also paid so if you need to leave your baggage, you need to pay up to 6 euros for 6 hours. Personally, it would also be more comfortable for me if the beds had curtains, especially in the mixed dorm.

Location is great but you do need to travel by (public transfer) boat to get to all the highlights. Beautiful view from the room I was staying. It’s been a while since I stayed at a hostel and forgot a lock and towel. You can but/rent them at the reception. The lobby/place you can rest is great. Lots of couches. I’ve been reading my book with a drink. Price is great! Room was very clean. Mattress comfortable. This was exactly was I was expecting of a good hostel.

Communication about the food good be a better. One night I expected to have diner and when I was hungry I asked for a plate of food. Then they told me there was no food that evening. So I quickly had to make other plans. Also apparently the cook was sick. Someone staying at the hostel had to tell me that. Other than that, everything was as expected.

It was really welcoming and nice place to stay. The staff is super available and friendly. Some speak French (my mother tongue) really well, so it can be helpful. The setting is amazing : to wake up every morning with the view on Venice main island, including st mark's square in the distance, is simply a dream. The sunsets are pretty amazing to spot from there too. There is bar with music on the ground floor, and they even organised a really cool party for Halloween.

The lockers situated under the beds are not the most pratictal, but it is manageable.

Lovely room, absolutely LOVE the lounge area, good vibes, great furniture, lots of things to eat. Many affordable eats nearby too on Giudecca. If the water bus is running, it would be really near to San Marco or to the Venice Biennale area. Gorgeous views too!

The hostel is on an island OFF of the mainland where the only way to get there is boat. Only book if you're planning to get a water bus pass. There was also a strike on one of the days I was there, making it really hard to get on the mainland due to no public transport services - some had to pay 50 euros for a water taxi off the island!

location is a little hard to go from the city, but I Found it's quiet nice if you plan to go to the museum, or chill out at night. So depend on how you like it though. I enjoy it a lot there with people and services.

It's all about people who come here, they're some of them that's not give others respect when you stay together. BTW it's not hostel's fault so. Oh I forgot to mention that I would love to have a recharge for bottle every floor-- that would be perfect.

The location was just great,extremely close to a water taxi stop. The surrounding cafes are also great. I ended up in room 206 which had one bunk bed and three single beds the toilet and shower were clean and spacious. Don’t forget to bring a padlock!

They completely ran out of hot chocolate during my stay after having it on day 1 I enjoyed it so much and was looking forward to having more of it :( also you have to pay if you want to leave luggage

Very nice and clean hotel, nice staff.

Situated on the opposite bank from the centre. The one-way ferry costs 9.5 euros.

The view when you step out from the hotel was amazing. The staff is friendly. Not expensive compared to others.

Too many beds in one room, because of that it was extremely noisy all the time. The shower is tiny. It’s located on a separated island, additional costs for transportation back and forth.

Really Nice Location and People and Lobby/Bar-Area with good buyable coffee. Beds are good.

Bad Things though: No kitchen, No place tot eat your own food (they don't allow it in the common area, which I find ridiculous and not okay), Showers are just two per floor, tiny and together with toilets for many many people. Luggage storage is 5Euro per day, which I find a lot.

The bathroom in the dorm was not that great. The sink ran slow, the paper towel and towel holder were missing. The sink looked like it needed repairs. The dorm room was also really hot. The lockers were a nice size, but hard to get to without being in the way of another person. The laundry room was ok. The washer and dryer were very grubby on the outside. plus, if you were checking to see if your laundry was dry, opening the door cancelled your time and if your clothes weren’t dry, you had to pay again. The laundry pac they give you is a smelly one. I usually use unscented ones, so it was noticeable on my clothes. Basically the laundry room reminded me of an apartment building with a communal laundry room.

If you stay in rooms with en-suite bathrooms, everything is clean and comfortable. The staff are friendly and Sara (hope I got her name right) was really fun to talk to. There are vending machines on Level 2 and Level 1 that sell all your necessities like soap and bottles. I think it’s a neat concept

I just think it’s a waste as the hostel staff are so nice and the common areas are really pretty. The rooms and bathrooms just could have been thought through a lot better. When I first arrived close to midnight after a 15 hour flight, I was given a bed in a 16 or 24 bed dorm. It was sweltering inside, and the staff on duty told me he would turn off the AC if anybody complained (it was so hot with so many people in one room - I don’t think anyone complained). There’s also only 2 showers and 2 toilets per gender for 5-7 rooms on the third floor (which has no lift) - they say you can go downstairs but it’s just poorly designed. One of the male staff I encountered told me to go downstairs or deal with it. The bathroom doors and shower doors cannot be locked, and there’s no place to put any of your stuff. I had such a bad night that I begged to be moved to a smaller room, or I’d find somewhere else to stay. All the lockers under the bed also need to be fully pulled out to be opened, but the beds are placed so close together that you’ll need to play tetris somehow with all your luggag Sara moved me to a ensuite female dorm (6 people) which was so much better. If you booked the cheapest room, just beware.

Location is great, fantastic atmosphere, friendly staff, affordable.

Ventilation was rather insufficient at the top floor (3rd floor) where the dorms for 16 people are located. With 16 people in a room and just a very small window to refresh the air for the entire room it was quite warm and smelly in the room.

The location isn’t ideal since you’ll need to take a water bus to reach the main island, which costs around €10 per ticket. However, the hostel's price was reasonable, so it balances out overall. Just something to keep in mind before booking.

Food options are very limited. Littler over priced on weekend . No shower el or shampoo no towel provided.

Clean and in a great location.

Easy to get from bus station to hostel. Beneficial to get a 1 day (or more) pass to use the boats as it is across the river from the main town. Cafe and restaurant bar in the building. Good offerings. Pool table. Room was good.

Can’t bring in external food, so no fridge or cooking facilities as you would usually expect in a hostel. Quite a few bunks in a room, no blinds/curtains on beds. Shower would benefit from a shelf to put soap/shampoo etc instead of on the ground. Toilet cubical was tiny, had to brush clothing on toilet to exit the cubical.

I like this hostel. The lobby itself is Instagrammable. The location is easy to find . The beds are comfy, too.

No elevator on the 3rd floor and the dorm has very limited space to move around. The toilet inside is only one for 10 people inside the room so others has to go out to the nearest common toilet outside.

I am a bit older and it seemed like a mixed age place which was nice for a hostel. The public areas are quite nice. I love the location.

The bathroom was not very clean and one of the showers was out of order. It would be nice to have a curtain to draw for more privacy in your bunk. I understand that because there is a cafe there, that outside food is forbidden but it would be nice to have a hot water kettle somewhere just to make tea.

The location its in a quite not busy area away from busy venice, can reach venice in 5 mins by boat. lovely restaurant and cafes outside the hotel. lovely walk ways down the canals.

I made a mistake by booking mixed room. Weeks before I arrive I contacted the hotel to asked for women only room, they agreed and said everything had been changed. I arrived to the hotel to find men in my room, I went down and they said sorry it hadn’t been changed and there is nothing they can do now. I was upset and not comfortable my whole trip, I was sad the hotel hasn’t kept their promise to change it, even though charged for women room, which was then amended to mixed room price.

Most of all, I liked the people I met here. Staff was very nice too.

24hours reception is the best But renting towel costs 5Euro.. The bed quality is so good. Rarely squicky. I could barely even sleep cuz of this lady’s alarm started to ring from 4 in the morning every 10 mins and she never f wakes up

Were not allowed to bring outside food in. It’s not on the main island (just in case you didn’t check like me). The water ferry pass is not cheap. It’s 9 euros ever time you want to catch it or a pass for 35 euros. Better to stay on the mainland and take the train or ferry only when required.
