Waldorf Astoria on The Bund, Shanghai

I recently stayed at Waldorf Astoria Shanghai, and I must say, it was a very disappointing experience. The staff's attitude was unfriendly, making it difficult to get any assistance when I needed it. The cleanliness of the room was also unacceptable. I found hair in the wardrobe, which made me question the overall hygiene standards of the hotel. It's shocking to think that such basic cleanliness could be overlooked. Additionally, I was surprised to discover that the mini bar was not complimentary, which was not clearly communicated at check-in. This felt quite misleading. To top it all off, the Wi-Fi connection was terrible. I was unable to connect to Google, which was very frustrating during my stay. Overall, I would not recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a pleasant and comfortable hotel experience.

The communication with the staff was confusing. I received conflicting messages about my reservation before arrival, I had to call multiple times to confirm. Then I was told I couldn’t pay with a credit card but later when i requested for additional method of payment in English, I was told I could pay with Apple Pay. It makes me feel uncomfortable that it seems the hotel treats foreign visitors and local Chinese visitors differently. When we visited the spa, we were not informed correctly about the operational hours and we had to rush and get out quickly to ensure the staff get off work on time. And the staff made us feel unwelcome and they were rushing us out with inpatient manner. The female staff walked in the changing room multiple times to make sure we will get out quickly without consideration of our privacy.

The location was good.

The service was poor. This is not the first time that we have stayed in Waldorf but the service in the Shanghai branch is really poor. The staff were actually rude. The food was not good too and the facilities were not worth the price paid for.

I had a luggage kept in the hotel. I was looking for it during check out and they can’t find it. I checked out at 5am and the staff mentioned he cant find it because he doesnt know where the others kept the luggages. I am on the way to the airport without my luggage now and I am unsure if they will be able to find it. Very uncooperative and now we have a missing luggage

The location is very good , very close to the river bank

There was fire-drill without notifying , the alarm was loud and sound, the whole floor just standing at the hall and not sure what to do…you have to call the reception to find out, this is a very bad experience!!! The food for room service is terrible … the nuggets tasted squishy inside…

Terrible room keeping services. My room was not made at all and I needed to call reception at midnight after getting back to the hotel for them to do the turndown service and bring fresh towels. Shocking.

good location to take a stroll along the Bund

This hotel isn’t generous at all compared to other luxurious hotel with the same price level, as they didn’t do any repairmen to their fault. Also, the attitude of service line is unbearably terrible, they tried to interrupt me while I was speaking and the man over the phone always made me sense his impatience by making signing.

Excellent on everything.

They held a Thanksgiving dinner at the open dining room and the animator lady for Bingo game was just horribly loud. Her ear-splitting screams roared throughout the ground floor of the hotel.

the historical building is exquisite! wonderful style and excellent service.

With the current covid 19 situation in China making the locals hostile towards foreigners, the stuff at the hotel were amazing throughout and the room was very beautiful.

The breakfast was amazing. The staff was friendly and welcoming. When I had an issue with my coffee maker, they quickly replaced it. The room and the bed were very comfortable. I would recommend the hotel to others.

I thought all of it was excellent. Opening hours for bars and restaurants should be posted where it is easier to find.
