Wonderful staff and great food.

It was a bit rundown.

The staff was most helpful. Caroline checked me in with a genuine smile and a custom map and info about Santiago. This repurposed hostel from a former home has history as it was constructed at the turn of the century for a prominent persona and family. The vibe is artsy with really fun selections of visual distractions and color. Catchy sound selections spilling from the speakers during working hours wrap around the guests. This grand dam of a former home is just really fun to explore. The outdoor garden dining area is available when weather is permitting. Sun tarps help keep the area comfortable. Indoor dining is also available with a full bar. My room happened to be a double with an elevated deck above the main street. A private up to date bath is provided. With surrounding palms and ferns it reminds me of Tangiers., Morocco. Oh yes, real coffee is served.

I was hoping the shower would have a bit more water delivery but it might just have been my unit. Even though my room faced the main street, noise was minimized by heavy and thick double doors. But the occasional racer could be loud regardless.

Great location in Santiago to walk to several neighborhoods. Very convenient and felt very safe. Common areas were very comfortable and available. Hosts kindly accommodated our request for ground floor room needed due to injury and room with fireplace was very very comfortable. Would stay here again!

Rooms facing main boulevard can be a little noisy but keeping windows closed mostly dampened sound.

The staff were very friendly and extremely helpful. The Hostal Rio Amazones gives out its own map and travel guide, which includes train routes, recommendations for areas to see, and the estimated time required to visit them. Catherine, the host, has loads of ideas for activities to do, given the amount of time available each day. She also helps book taxi's and excursions. Although it's called a "hostel," I would consider it more of a "bed and breakfast." There are options for food and drink to order, the space is decorated in Bohemian style with a lot of local art, and it's got a funky vibe. It's near the University, the city center, a walk away from the funicular, which will take you to the Virgin Mary, and several other major attractions. Catherine knows all the deals and best things to do at economical prices. She also guides you on how to stay safe in Santiago. I also loved this location because it appears to be a women-owned and operated business, with a strong emphasis on hiring female staff and providers. LGBTQ friendly -- if that's important to you. But overall, just a super welcoming place. Rooms are basic but well-maintained -- good bedding, clean, fully functioning bathrooms. Excellent value for your money. Feels like you've gone home to mom's house.

The only thing that was problematic was outside noise. We opened the windows to enjoy the fresh air and the street noise was very, very loud for us. We're not used to city noise so it made it hard for us to sleep. The noise died down around 1-2 a.m. We're talking car noise, sirens, motorcycles, people talking/screaming. Closing the windows helped as would good earplugs.

Staff were very friendly and helpful The room we stayed in was a good size Easy to walk to the centre where there are lots of shops and restaurants.

The breakfast was basic but adequate. You are served at the table and are given a couple of rolls, butter, jam, a yogurt plain or flavoured & a couple of slices of cheese. You can also have an egg boiled or soft and there was a bowl of fruit and 2 choices of cereal. As I've said totally adequate if you like was is offered. We would of preferred to have been able to help ourselves to coffee rather than be served as when busy you had to wait a long time for a refill.

Great location, friendly staff, good value. Cute courtyard and commons area and it was nice to have a bar on site.

It was a perfect location and the staff were so friendly and helpful. The Hostal had a lovely atmosphere and the breakfast/leisure area very attractive. The squeaky floors can be forgiven!

Taps in bathroom need attention and windows in bedroom appeared painted shut.

The room was a bit cold at night but there were enough blankets to sleep comfortably.

Room was a bit noisy due to plumbing. Location is alright but not super lively at night so may feel a bit isolated.

It is a big house that looks a bit like a castle from the outside. 100% would book this again. The location is perfect. You can walk to the hill that has the virgin statue . I forgot the name, and also, Lastrria is a fun neighborhood with affordable food and drinks that is walking distance. 10 minutes

Breakfast and location were good. English spoken and credit card taken. The hostal also arranged an airport transfer for me which was great. No complaints in general.

The floorboards are crazy loud if there is a guest upstairs. The owners are aware of this but there's not much they can do.

We had two quiet and comfortable nights at this beautiful hostel. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Thank you very much!

The staff were super friendly and our son felt right at home with Ginny for company. The inner courtyard is a lovely space and the bohemian decor is reflective of its surroundings. Great location close to the metro, with Bella Vista to the north, Barrio Italia to the east, and Lastarria / Central Histórico to the west. We will be back.

We liked it all. But if you cant deal with noise or the hustle and bustle of the city maybe think of staying somewhere like Vitacura.

Lovely staff, cosy atmosphere, great music and fantastic breakfast. We were able to borrow chargers/power point adapters as we hadn’t brought any.

The bed was very comfortable, the room had plenty of space, and you can add a good breakfast for $7 per person per day. WiFi was quick. Location very good, near public transport and within walking distance of good places to eat and drink. Staff was very friendly! Reception staff spoke excellent English. Very reasonably priced laundry service too. Ginny, the dog, is old and very friendly. Would stay again!

It didn’t bother us, but it’s a (beautiful) old building, so the floors creak a bit and we had some noise from the hallway. Otherwise it was actually pretty quiet for such a central location!

The location of this property is perfect - easy walking distance between Lastarria, Bella Vista and Barrio Italia, and convenient to get to many major sites. Metro station a 5 min walk, so it was very easy to get the airport bus and metro to and from the hostel. The place has a charming, rustic vibe, with nice common areas. The room was basic but comfortable, plenty of bedding to keep you warm and the shower had hot water and great pressure. The staff were very friendly and helpful, available 24/7. You leave your key at reception when you leave and the front door is locked so need to ring a bell when you return, but this was never a problem. Breakfast was 6000 and worth it - a big spread of fruit, yoghurt, cereal, a hard boiled egg, cheese, hot (delicious) bread, juice and tea/coffee. Many places don’t open early for breakfast so eating at the hostel is a great option. I also had dinner there one night and had a delicious soup for 6000. They stored my luggage safely after checkout and before my flight. It was a fantastic stay and I’d recommend it!

The bed and floor was a bit creaky but nothing too annoying. Sometimes you could hear the bell ring when people returned and people walking outside of your room, but it was pretty quiet overall

Everything was great, especially the fantastic staff. It's a hotel that feels like a family hostel. Located very near the Metro, a nice breakfast, comfy beds, and even dinner if you like to stay in at night.

The location of the property is excellent - you are close to the metro and the best places for bars and restaurants. The property is in a very interesting, Tudor-style property and it is full of character. The staff were very helpful in organising an airport transfer and accommodated a late check-in; the desk is 24-hour. The food is good and very reasonably priced - there is also a bar.

There is a system where you hand in the key every time you go out, but on 2 occasions they couldn’t find our key! This was a little frustrating. This is far from being a party hostel but noise travels along the hallway and the we were disturbed after 11 by other guests having conversations near our room.

The staff was very welcoming. I had problems with the reservation (my mistake) and they promptly found a solution that would work for both of us. Location is great. The room (single room) is small but comfortable. Breakfast was good as well, I believe if I had breakfast at a cafe I would spend more and have a worse meal.

Lovely hostel located in a beautiful Old quirky building with tons of character. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was sufficient and plentiful consisting of cereals breads fruits eggs and yogurt.

Everything was nice, good breakfast, the food at the restaurant was also very good, I really enjoyed the pizza! Location is great and everything was clean.

This hotel is absolutely exceptional. Run by incredibly passionate family staff, it was friendly, comfortably and homely as soon as I walked through the door. This is NOT a generic hotel, but a hostel with a beating heart and somewhere you will find nowhere else. This hostel will be an incentive for me to travel back to Santiago!!!

Fantastic family friendly Hostal (we travelled with our 12 year old daughter). Very clean and modern, but with loads of character. The Hostal was a short walk to cerro san cristobal funicular and the historic downtown. Room was clean and spacious and the attached bathroom was excellent. Breakfast was fantastic and the restaurant served a simple but excellent menu of local dishes for very reasonable prices. Staff was very helpful with bookings and local knowledge / advice. They even had gated off street parking for our rental car.

The staff was amazingly nice. When I arrived, I got a long and full explanation of the different neighborhoods around the hostal as well as many personalized recommandations. The room was comfortable and warm. The location is amazing, with the coolest barrios around the corner and the metro steps away. Breakfast is good as well.

I appreciated the charm of the place and the helpful, welcoming staff. There are some creaky floors, but the uniqueness and enchantment of the place is truly special. I would definitely stay here again!

I loved everything

Location was great…. Staff was friendly. Overnight stay so didn’t use the facilities. Garden area looked relaxing.

Room was perfect and check-in was handled speedily by Claudia....Having travelled down from La Serena I needed to eat....The chicken curry was just perfect and I have to thank Javi for that....Thanks also to Ron for the very early desayuno the next morning at 6.00 am before I went to Rapa Nui....Excellent place to stay...Worth returning....10 out of 10.
