A most charming boutique hotel. Very individual, felt like a home. Lovely setting, lovely garden/ pool, most charming interieur, run by French owner who has an eye for the little details that make it special. Great veranda views. Great recommendation by the owner. We will be back.

This is a wonderful hotel to stay in with the best staff and in a great location in Santa Teresa, Rio. I stayed here an extra 2-weeks (3-weeks in total) as so loved my stay and didn’t want to move to anywhere else in Rio. Fantastic Breakfast on the balcony with silverware is a top highlight in a beautiful setting and in such a beautiful building. Thanks to Jean-Francois the owner and his wonderful staff for a very nice stay. One of my best hotel stays during my tour of South America for sure.

Very nice place. Rather than a hotel, it is a patrician house one is invited in. Very nice breakfast on the balcony, beautiful drawing room, nice gardens. One could spend weeks here, just browsing the books. Very nice people too.

The street below may sometimes be noisy.

old school Rio

Mama Ruisa is located in a lovely area of Rio close to some cool bars and restaurants! The staff were INCREDIBLE (thank you Flavia!) and super helpful. Highly recommend this gem of a hotel to those who want to experience Rio in a more alternative way.

Super stylish decoration, big spaces, calm swimming pool and living room to relax, nice views of the city. Super cool hotel for a couple’s romantic escape, combining the charm of an old colonial house with modern touches. quite a special place.

the area isn’t the safest at night so you need to move by cab, but it’s quite cheerful and cool with several nice bars and restaurants so I’d still recommend for two days or so. A pity that breakfast is not included or even a mere tea or complimentary refreshment (there’s a mini bar with Parisian prices)

It is perhaps one of my favorite hotels I have ever stayed in, mainly for the very rare personal touches of beauty, in the books, furniture, flowers, art, the breakfast was perfection, the staff delightful. It was an honor to be trusted with all of the collected gorgeousness

Really enjoyed our stay at Mama Ruisa on a recent visit to Rio. The facilities were amazing including the beautiful hotel in general, the main areas, the swimming pool. Our room was massive with amazing. Imagine waking up to the sound of birds, opening your double doors to expansive views of the bay, eating a delicious continental breakfast on your private terrace. So incredible. Mainly worked with Thierry there, who spoke great English and was so warm, welcoming, and polite. The area is filled to the brim with local character with great food around. Different vibe compared to Ipanema and Copocabana but this was a positive for us as it gave us a different perspective on Rio. Much closer to centro as well.

Nothing - shower didn't have a seal on the door which made the floor a little wet while showering. Also would have them take the shower head out a little because basically had to stand right against the wall to get the full shower water.

This was one of our favorite hotels we have ever stayed at. The building is a gorgeous old mansion that is beautifully decorated, and with open spacious rooms. The view is absolutely stunning and the service is impeccable. We loved it so much that we booked a return trip on our last day!

Amazing stylish villa! Amazing team! Just a dream…

I recently had an extremely disappointing experience at Mama Ruisa Hotel. I booked a 2-bedroom apartment that was supposed to include two king-size beds, which was crucial for our stay. However, upon arrival, I found that the apartment had only one room with a single bed. To make matters worse, when I brought this discrepancy to the attention of the hotel staff, they informed me that they don't even have 2-bedroom apartments. This was shocking and frustrating, as it completely contradicted the information on the booking website. I have tried to resolve this issue through Booking.com, but despite their policy of responding within 24 hours, it has now been over a week with no response. This lack of customer service is unacceptable and has added to the frustration and stress of the entire situation. This experience has been a major disappointment and has cost me both time and money. I am insisting on a partial refund for the trouble caused, but until now, my concerns remain unaddressed.

Amazing location, beautiful rooms and views, nice pool. The staff are also really nice and gladly provide great tips on places to go and restaurants.

Drinking water in the room is charged. Hotels typically provide a complimentary bottle. Breakfast is also quite expensive approximately €20 per person for baguette, some jam and butter, coffee, cereal, yogurt, plain eggs, and fresh juice. While it is delicious and organic, I don’t find it to be value for money. I also see that there have been similar online comments from other guests. Location in Santa Teresa is really nice, that said, take note that you are about 30-40 minutes drive away from Copacabana and Ipanema beaches.

It’s an authentic look and the location is good for Rio

We had a situation where bed was full of ants Staff after 8pm was not from reception and did not speak English

We were absolutely thrilled with the property and decor, an extraordinary collection of furniture and art. The staff was helpful in suggesting restaurants, shopping and arranging for transport. The hotel is not within walking distance to stores or restaurants but well worth the stay. Breakfast was fresh, healthy and good as were simple salads, assortments of cheese etc. On the downside.. as much as we enjoyed the vibe the bathrooms clearly need renovating which is not to say we would not to stay there again but it's time that the bathrooms matched the facilities.
