Hotel PortoBay Internacional, Rio de Janeiro

Beautiful rooms, very comfortable beds, the hotel was spotless clean, their facilities were beautiful such as the roof top pool with amazing views, the food was excellent as was the breakfast buffet. Our side beach view superior room had a view of Christ the redeemer which was a lovely surprise also. Staff were friendly and very helpful, it couldn’t have been a better stay, we will definitely stay here again

The only thing I could think of improving is the scent in the lobby, although it is clearly very clean and beautiful, a beautiful scent would elevate the already high standard and be a welcoming touch on arrival

Location breakfast

We arrived early at the hotel, before our room was ready, but our bags were stowed away safely and the staff did all they could to get us checked-in earlier than billed. Breakfast was great (lots of choice, high quality ingredients), as was a morning walk along the front, and a nice cold Brahma with a view when the sun was setting. Communication about our various add-ons was also on point.

The spa facilities were a little spartan. In fact, the sauna was turned off when we went to use it. The wait for the lifts can also be a little painful.

Great facilities, Nice roof, perfect breakfast. Staff is very helpful and friendly.

Portobay is a lovely hotel, if you are willing to spend a little more for a premium or suite room it's definitely worth it. The service from the staff was excellent overall. My friends and I truly enjoyed our stay at Portobay The rooftop is a little small but very nice views , pool, service and the food is great. The waiters at breakfast are super friendly, welcoming and always willing to help. Location wise you are pretty central for Copacabana with access to nice mix of local and international restaurants as well as pharmacies, Hookah lounges etc. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and yes I would 100% recommend staying at Portobay. In fact I will be using them again when I come for Carnival

We didn't get a refund!! So the only let down was booking tourist activities through the hotel . In total we booked 3 activies. The 2 we were able to complete are very subpar . In hindsight we wish we booked through trip advisor or get your guide. We had hoped that for such an incredible hotel that their vendors would be to similar level but unfortunately not , my recommendation is for the hotel to vet the vendors they work with to maintain the standard of their hotel The refund ?? We had booked a jeep tour to explore the west wild beaches of Rio a tour guide arrived and wanted to take us somewhere else in a mini van, which we didn't request anyway we spoke with the hotel manager and we were told a refund would be made. That was on the 21st of December. Till date we have not received a refund or any word/communication on this refund. It's not a lot of money but for us it's the principle and unfortunately a slight let down. Anyway love the hotel just don't do bookings for tourists activities through them!

This first lane Gorgeous Hotel is ABSOLUTELY worth this money! My best recommendation is obviously to take a suit with the balcony and with the front ocean view. Believe me, it's worth every penny you spend)) The personnel in the hotel is a super nice, really helpful and carrying) The gesture with a cold champagne glass during the checking in is also a nice gesture, which is not provided even in a more expensive hotels!! The Pool area gives you a panoramic view on a whole COPACABANA area and even on a Jesus Christ) And what is my personal favourite - it's a cozy clean GYM at the top of the Hotel! You can do your cardio or any other routine enjoying the ocean , waves, Rio it's absolutely blasting!!! In the gym you can find towels, water and even 2 types of fresh apples :))) that's so cute and nice) PS. the breakfasts are also great, cold Prosecco, big variety of fruits, salmon)) what else you need))) So, my conclusion is that the money/quality ratio is a superb! Great location opposite Copacabana Beach. Easy to get to and from using Ubers. Lovely room with a large bed and excellent bed linen and great shower room. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Excellent breakfast choices in a lovely room overlooking the bay.

A Little far away and you always need an Uber/Taxi but the view on the sugar loaf and City compensates it.

The hotel is situated in the best location, just steps away from the famous Copacabana beach and close to everything you need for a great stay in Rio.

The staff of Porto Bay Rio is amazing and the hospitality we experienced was outstanding; it started with the airport pickup by Daniel, who introduced us to Brasil in a very charming way. The team at the reception desk also was always there for questions of any kind and very helpful. We enjoyed the breakfast very much as it was super tasty every single day and the staff there was incredibly attentive and working with a smile on their face. Last but not least I want to mention Caio and Isaias of the beach staff. They guarded our personal belongings at the beach and served us drinks from the local beach bar. All things considered we enjoyed our stay a lot and would score 12 out of 10 points! Thanks to the whole team and we hope to see all of you at our next trip to Brasil.

It's the best boutique hotel on Copacabana Beach with balconies . The view from my balcony was fantastic. Going to the rooftop to enjoy the pool, bar, the relaxing lounge chairs and the view that included Christ the Redeemer. Portobay hotel did every right including free beach chairs, umbrellas towels, even attendance to get your drinks. This includes watching your personal items if you want to stroll along the beach or swim. The location was superb for hotel guests within walking distance to restaurants and live entertainment blocks away . If you prefer to stay in they have a restaurant to accommodate for dinner. I would definitely return to this hotel and also recommend to my friends and family in Canada and USA.

Everything was exceptional including the front desk at 4am assistance while I waited for my driver to catch my flight to see the Iguazu Falls

The location was great. Very comfortable beds.

We had a side sea view room, but the glass was very dirty, so we had to stand up to see the sea. We arrived early due to our flight time, understanding we would not be able to check in until three pm. That was ok, the hotel kindly let us use their facilities while we waited. Unfortunately, our room wasn't ready until 5pm. This made it an awfully long day with little sleep.

Greeting upon arrival was exceptional with sparkling wine and welcome you to use their facilities with showers at the gym, changing room and the rooftop restaurant and pool while awaiting for your room. My room balcony #1804 executive sideview wow, my sister's room was a superior room. Even better would be #1801 front view. Hotel location for restaurants no car necessary. Grocery store , breakfast cafe around the corner from the hotel was open late . Great restaurants within a 2 to 3 minutes walk. Nightlife I enjoyed Blue note restaurant with live band upstairs that showcase Stevie Wonder music Saturday night only 6 minutes walk from Portobay hotel. I would definitely recommend this hotel which also has a restaurant for breakfast and dinner with the facilities that travelers appreciate from a boutique hotel. The front desk service was outstanding!!

I had an incredible stay at PortoBay in Copacabana! This hotel is perfect for a visit to the area. The reception staff were consistently fantastic—friendly, helpful, and highly knowledgeable about local excursions. I highly recommend booking through the hotel, as they always go out of their way to accommodate and provide top-notch service. The porter was also very attentive and always ready to help, as others have mentioned. One of the best perks is that they offer free beach chairs, umbrellas, and towels for guests, which made our beach days so much easier. The two staff members stationed at the beach were wonderful—always happy to help and willing to go the extra mile to ensure guests have a great experience. The view from the hotel is another highlight (depending on the room); we could see Christ the Redeemer in the distance, with Copacabana Beach right across the road. The hotel felt surprisingly modern compared to others nearby, which made it an even better choice. They also have a rooftop pool and bar, which I didn’t visit often, but when I did, it was clean and lively. There was live music on some nights, adding to the great atmosphere and beautiful view, the staff up there were fantastic as well. I felt safe coming and going from the hotel thanks to their security presence, which is really reassuring.

The only downside to my stay (personal preference) was the limited options for vegetarian diets at breakfast. With so many diverse dietary needs these days, I felt there could be a bit more variety—adding items like vegetarian sausages or other plant-based alternatives would be a fantastic improvement. While some options were available, a few more choices would really elevate the breakfast experience for those with specific dietary preferences. That said, the view from the breakfast area is a beautiful way to start your day, overlooking the stunning Copacabana Beach.

Size of room great, the balcony with a view was nice, the beding was great and the view for breakfast. The ladies at breakfast and the gentlemen serving coffee was so good.

A beautiful hotel where the staff are always smiling and willing to help. Centrally located, with stunning views from our balcony, the restaurant and rooftop pool of Copacabana beach. We were so grateful for the early check-in, especially after a 11-hour overnight flight – thank you Talis! The rooms were spacious, cleaned daily and the bathroom was of good size with a powerful shower. The swimming pool wasn’t heated, but in 34 degrees it was great to cool off in! We loved the rooftop bar and the private beach area, exclusive for PortoBay guests. Caio and Isais deserve a special mention for their hospitality at the beach. The breakfast was fantastic! So much choice…and prosecco! Special mention to Wellington and Carlinhos who looked after so well and kept us topped up with coffee and alcoholic drinks! Saying that, every staff member was fantastic, and we had no complaints with anyone. I also had a lovely full body massage at the hotel spa, which was very welcomed after a long day of travelling. I would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to stay in Rio de Janeiro. We had a wonderful holiday!

If I was to make one small criticism, is that I found my pillows to be far too soft. Saying that, other guests we spoke to said they loved them, so I guess it’s down to personal preference!

Our flight was delayed therefore we checked in midnight, the staff was very helpful and friendly. I would definitely recommend this hotel as the staff are so lovely throughout the hotel and Sacha and Thiago on the front desk was really helpful in giving us information on excursions etc. The breakfast was amazing, we had it every morning and it was such a nice spread! The views from the hotel are wonderful, we saw the beach as well as Christ the Redeemer on the 11th floor! Thank you so much!

The lift took a while to arrive on the floors, I think one of them was not working so you would be waiting for a minute or so! However, the hotel was in a great location and the views were great! In my honest opinion, the hotel is a bit old and need a little revamp however this hotel met my expectations and the views are just breath-taking!!!

We needed a comfortable first day in Rio after a long flight, and Portobay was exactly the right place. Great location, spacious room, and glorious pool area. The beach is right in front of the property and you can enjoy for free parasol, chairs and belonging storage. The whole team Is friendly and helpful. Delicious breakfast served till 1030 am with lots of options.

Great location, the rooftop area has a pool and a great bar along with amazing views. Great welcoming by the staff and amazing service throughout. Special thanks to Thiago, Rafael, (all the staff at the lobby desk), José, Márcia and Wellington from the rooftop area. The staff really added to our stay, definitely a great team. Room service was great, amazing food. Amazing view from the balcony. Nice feeling of security everywhere in the hotel.

Room wasn’t dirty but it wasn’t up to standard either. Sink and tub were both clogged and the shower partition leaves the bathroom floor completely wet. The balcony door was really complicated to close.

The staff were super, gorgeous view, silky sheets, great shower, perfect rooftop pool + bar. The staff really went above and beyond at check in, in the rooftop bar, and at breakfast. LGBT couple, was comfortable 👍🏻

That I couldn't stay longer. The lifts take a while to come as there is only two lifts but not massive wait times.

There was a lot of noise coming from the other rooms! I saw a cockroach at the room. We also had a dripping in our bathroom (It was fixed fast though)

If looking for improvement soundproofing the patio doors would be nice as it could get noisy outside, but this is a minor point and we had no problem sleeping.

The location was great, right next to the beach and close walk to many amenities. The room was comfortable, the shower was excellent and the balcony was a welcome added touch. The rooftop pool and bar were also great additions
