Spa facilities were not on par with the standard that i paid for. Found shell in my scrambled eggs on 2 different mornings.

The location was great. Very comfortable beds.

We had a side sea view room, but the glass was very dirty, so we had to stand up to see the sea. We arrived early due to our flight time, understanding we would not be able to check in until three pm. That was ok, the hotel kindly let us use their facilities while we waited. Unfortunately, our room wasn't ready until 5pm. This made it an awfully long day with little sleep.

Greeting upon arrival was exceptional with sparkling wine and welcome you to use their facilities with showers at the gym, changing room and the rooftop restaurant and pool while awaiting for your room. My room balcony #1804 executive sideview wow, my sister's room was a superior room. Even better would be #1801 front view. Hotel location for restaurants no car necessary. Grocery store , breakfast cafe around the corner from the hotel was open late . Great restaurants within a 2 to 3 minutes walk. Nightlife I enjoyed Blue note restaurant with live band upstairs that showcase Stevie Wonder music Saturday night only 6 minutes walk from Portobay hotel. I would definitely recommend this hotel which also has a restaurant for breakfast and dinner with the facilities that travelers appreciate from a boutique hotel. The front desk service was outstanding!!

I had an incredible stay at PortoBay in Copacabana! This hotel is perfect for a visit to the area. The reception staff were consistently fantastic—friendly, helpful, and highly knowledgeable about local excursions. I highly recommend booking through the hotel, as they always go out of their way to accommodate and provide top-notch service. The porter was also very attentive and always ready to help, as others have mentioned. One of the best perks is that they offer free beach chairs, umbrellas, and towels for guests, which made our beach days so much easier. The two staff members stationed at the beach were wonderful—always happy to help and willing to go the extra mile to ensure guests have a great experience. The view from the hotel is another highlight (depending on the room); we could see Christ the Redeemer in the distance, with Copacabana Beach right across the road. The hotel felt surprisingly modern compared to others nearby, which made it an even better choice. They also have a rooftop pool and bar, which I didn’t visit often, but when I did, it was clean and lively. There was live music on some nights, adding to the great atmosphere and beautiful view, the staff up there were fantastic as well. I felt safe coming and going from the hotel thanks to their security presence, which is really reassuring.

The only downside to my stay (personal preference) was the limited options for vegetarian diets at breakfast. With so many diverse dietary needs these days, I felt there could be a bit more variety—adding items like vegetarian sausages or other plant-based alternatives would be a fantastic improvement. While some options were available, a few more choices would really elevate the breakfast experience for those with specific dietary preferences. That said, the view from the breakfast area is a beautiful way to start your day, overlooking the stunning Copacabana Beach.

Size of room great, the balcony with a view was nice, the beding was great and the view for breakfast. The ladies at breakfast and the gentlemen serving coffee was so good.

A beautiful hotel where the staff are always smiling and willing to help. Centrally located, with stunning views from our balcony, the restaurant and rooftop pool of Copacabana beach. We were so grateful for the early check-in, especially after a 11-hour overnight flight – thank you Talis! The rooms were spacious, cleaned daily and the bathroom was of good size with a powerful shower. The swimming pool wasn’t heated, but in 34 degrees it was great to cool off in! We loved the rooftop bar and the private beach area, exclusive for PortoBay guests. Caio and Isais deserve a special mention for their hospitality at the beach. The breakfast was fantastic! So much choice…and prosecco! Special mention to Wellington and Carlinhos who looked after so well and kept us topped up with coffee and alcoholic drinks! Saying that, every staff member was fantastic, and we had no complaints with anyone. I also had a lovely full body massage at the hotel spa, which was very welcomed after a long day of travelling. I would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to stay in Rio de Janeiro. We had a wonderful holiday!

If I was to make one small criticism, is that I found my pillows to be far too soft. Saying that, other guests we spoke to said they loved them, so I guess it’s down to personal preference!

The staff - very helpful /excellent customer service .The bed linen - very soft and silky . The location of the hotel is excellent - the views of Copacabana were awesome !

Our flight was delayed therefore we checked in midnight, the staff was very helpful and friendly. I would definitely recommend this hotel as the staff are so lovely throughout the hotel and Sacha and Thiago on the front desk was really helpful in giving us information on excursions etc. The breakfast was amazing, we had it every morning and it was such a nice spread! The views from the hotel are wonderful, we saw the beach as well as Christ the Redeemer on the 11th floor! Thank you so much!

The lift took a while to arrive on the floors, I think one of them was not working so you would be waiting for a minute or so! However, the hotel was in a great location and the views were great! In my honest opinion, the hotel is a bit old and need a little revamp however this hotel met my expectations and the views are just breath-taking!!!

We needed a comfortable first day in Rio after a long flight, and Portobay was exactly the right place. Great location, spacious room, and glorious pool area. The beach is right in front of the property and you can enjoy for free parasol, chairs and belonging storage. The whole team Is friendly and helpful. Delicious breakfast served till 1030 am with lots of options.

Great location, the rooftop area has a pool and a great bar along with amazing views. Great welcoming by the staff and amazing service throughout. Special thanks to Thiago, Rafael, (all the staff at the lobby desk), José, Márcia and Wellington from the rooftop area. The staff really added to our stay, definitely a great team. Room service was great, amazing food. Amazing view from the balcony. Nice feeling of security everywhere in the hotel.

Room wasn’t dirty but it wasn’t up to standard either. Sink and tub were both clogged and the shower partition leaves the bathroom floor completely wet. The balcony door was really complicated to close.

The staff were super, gorgeous view, silky sheets, great shower, perfect rooftop pool + bar. The staff really went above and beyond at check in, in the rooftop bar, and at breakfast. LGBT couple, was comfortable 👍🏻

That I couldn't stay longer. The lifts take a while to come as there is only two lifts but not massive wait times.

Amazing location with great view of Copacabana beach and Christ the Redeemer from the rooftop. Rooftop is sunny throughout the day and the bar is open late with lovely staff. Room was clean and they provided a small bottle of water each day

There was a lot of noise coming from the other rooms! I saw a cockroach at the room. We also had a dripping in our bathroom (It was fixed fast though)

Very good location, friendly personnel willing to help you, very good breakfast, great hotel and room view. Moreover, Isaias, who was responsible for our comfort in the beach was very, polite, friendly and really helpful with everything.

The hotel was beautiful, fantastic rooftop pool and bar, lovely room. Breakfast was top quality and staff were very nice. The location was excellent.

If looking for improvement soundproofing the patio doors would be nice as it could get noisy outside, but this is a minor point and we had no problem sleeping.

The location was great, right next to the beach and close walk to many amenities. The room was comfortable, the shower was excellent and the balcony was a welcome added touch. The rooftop pool and bar were also great additions

The location of course is really good, right across the beach from Copacabana. There are many restaurants near by and the mall is walking distance(be careful walking through tunnel to the mall). The food at the hotel is pretty good. Not expensive. The rooftop pool is nice and sitting area is nice. The staff was super helpful, polite. The bed was comfortable and shower nice.

The room I stayed in (1108) was not in good conditions. They need to remodel some rooms. For the price I paid, I could have stayed at the Hilton or got an apartment. The elevators are small and sooooooo slow. I had to take the stairs many times. The massage therapist is on call only... there is not a therapist on staff during work hours.

Pool food was so so

The staff were very friendly. Our bed was comfortable and clean. The hotel is located in an area where there are different type of restaurants and shops. You can enjoy the beach where the hotel has its own chairs and umbrellas. We were not worried about leaving our belongings while we went to swim because the staff kept them in their tent Excellent breakfast.

The pool is very small

They’re focusing on the most important for the customer things: - good breakfast - clean rooms - free chairs and umbrellas at the beach, they will even look after your belongings if you want to go swimming, which is amazing.

- The hotel is old. - We had a problem with the payment because hotel refused to accept payment from our company, requesting that the name of the bank card should be the same as the guest (though our trip was paid by company and it made us a big inconvenience) - Our room was side sea view and there’s a big column on the balcony that is closing the view, so basically you need to go to the opposite corner of the balcony to be able to see a little sea. - At the checkout we were asked to pay more money than I expected, so I asked for a detailed bill and it ended up that they added some tax without letting us know. As I knew my booking included all the taxes, I asked about it and the administrator said it’s not obligatory tax and that he is going to remove it from the bill, which he did. The amount of money was little and I didn’t see a problem to pay it if I was asked and explained what that means. To me it looks disrespectful to add something in a bill without letting the guest knowing about it.

The porter was always very attentive when organizing taxis and the reception team was also very nice and helped organize some transfer tickets.

Fantastic location right on the Copacabana. Nice that they offered beach chairs and towels and could watch your belongings when you are going for a swim, the guy from the beach service was supernice and fun!

Beautiful hotel, with a luxurious feel. But what made our stay extra special was the staff who consistently went out their way to make us feel special and welcome! Alice went out of her way to give us a personalised itinerary and regularly checked in with us over our stay. Carlinhos every breakfast remembered my love of hot chocolate and ensured I got that. Even giving me a nickname of “chocolatte” which made us laugh each morning. Alex ( I believe was his name, who helps with luggage) was always super friendly and warm. As well as the receptionists. The staff treat you like family. We loved our stay at PortoBay and felt so well taken care of. Thank you to all. We hope you get the recognition you deserve.

Perhaps the hot breakfast could offer more vegetarian options. Every other day they offer a vegetarian omelette, that we loved! There are lots of hot options for meat eaters (bacon and sausages) like me. However, my boyfriend who doesn’t eat pork would have liked more hot vegetarian options.

The hotel is on a prime location and it's easy to navigate around. 10 minutes drive from the famous Sugarloaf Bread. The room we booked (top level) had a spectacular view and the bedding were nicely medium hard. Breakfast was varied and very friendly staff to refill. We didn't have dinner as we had a craving for sushi. The reception people promptly advised a Nikkei place accross the street which was a marvelous bonus to our stay.

Sound proofing of the windows was very bad, so even though we were on the 12th( I believe) floor, I was awoken by the beeps of the cleaning cars at 3 am. Also the beach bars were audible. I don't want to imagine what rooms with beach view on the first floors have going on.

The breakfast was amazing. Lots of variety and really well organized. Our room was on the 12th floor and we had an amazing view over Copacabana. it was super central location and right in front of the beach. Loved the view from the pool on the rooftop. we also had drinks there and it was a lovely place to enjoy a cocktail after a busy day.
