Hostel Selina Lapa, Rio de Janeiro

The building, the art, the staff, the best breakfast in town.

I arrived with my family around 8 pm and the location at night can be scary.

Location and the Rock Star room with balcony towards the square.

The recepcionist gave me a downgraded suite instead the Rock Star suite I booked. I saw it does not fit the photos and they corrected after my complaint.

The bed was comfy and the shower was good. The social areas are really nice and the rooftop bar was cool.

We could hear next door talking extremely loudly constantly. The shared kitchen was a bit grotty with the other guests not washing what they'd used properly or a good amount of crockery and cutlery.

Location was great for the Lapa and night life. Nice facility all around with food/bar service available, comfortable beds bathroom facility, work/sitting areas and kitchen.

Food service was very slow due to the volume of customers. There was confusion as to me never showing up?? I don’t know what that was about. Loud music until 2200- midnight.

The staff and facilities were great. Top notch as expected from a Selina. The rooms were extremely spacious and comfy.

Location! Comfortable bed with curtains added plus. Great facility with working areas and kitchen.

Rooms were hot! Can’t imagine being there in summer. Waiting time to use the one bathroom in the room. Loud music until around 11-11:30 pm. Difficult to sleep. The food/Bar service was slow most likely due to the amount of guest.

The only drawback is that the water in the shower was not very warm.

“Had a great stay at Selina Lapa Rio! The location in Lapa is fantastic, with lots of bars and restaurants nearby, plus easy access to the metro. The room and the entire hostel were big, clean, and well-kept. The rooftop bar is nice, although it had a quieter vibe during our stay, with more working professionals since it’s also a coworking space. Overall, a very good experience at a reasonable price, and it’s just a 20-minute metro ride or affordable Uber to reach Ipanema and Copacabana beaches!”

I had to change rooms 3 times due to a horrible smell. It’s quite a lot of homeless people in the area not very safe to walk alone at night.

The front desk crew were amazing! Friendly, polite and efficient. The building itself is beautiful. Given the amount of floors and guests the elevators were surprisingly efficient. Coffee was good, too. The rooftop bar has a nice view. The security guards were professionals. It has an optional WhatsApp group in which information is shared.

The hostel has a nice location. You can walk around to sightsee and go out at night. The internet connection is good and they have a dedicated co-working space, which is really nice. The rooftop is great to take a drink before going out.

The breakfast has a long waiting time, there should be options to grab something to eat and start working on time. I had to often take the breakfast with me to the co-working space cause it took like half an hour to get it.

The facility is great. It’s quite clean and has great activities.

The employee that works at the front desk during the late hours, Ed, was repeatedly rude and seemed like was being forced to work and attend me, which doesn’t make any sense when you chose to work with the public and specially travelers and tourists. Also, it’s something small but having eaten breakfast for 9 days straight, I noticed that the quality of the food served changes every other day, probably because the kitchen team changes too. One day it was great and the next day was regular to bad sometimes and that repeating itself for the whole period. Lastly, I found really hard to talk to the managing team who could help me solve my problem. Even after sending emails, I didn’t get any response and the one that I did, was useless.

I was there only to spend one night and go my way. I just needed a bed for resting 8 hours and it was ok. The staff was really nice and welcoming. The breakfast was really good. In general the facilities are nice

the bathroom was full of mold everywhere I didn’t like the fact that only one bathroom was available and there were no other toilets in the floor so every time I was in need to pee I had to go downstairs because the toilet in the room was always occupied by someone doing something like putting make up or washing their undies. It was ridiculous! The other girls in the dorm arrived in the early morning after partying without caring about the people sleeping, they turned on the lights and made so much noise. I know that you shouldn’t wait for a really quiet night in a shared dormitory but still I found this beyond normal.

Nice and big room with all you need. Clean, quiet, and with a well working AC. Selina has a good vibe and is a choice I would recommend when you are traveling.

The staff wasn't especially friendly. I tried to ask for things, but they didn't make an effort to find out. I also left one day early, and it was no possibility of getting my money back.

Noisy at night because of the rooftop bar, the pillow is too thin and not comfortable

24/7 security. They helped me a lot, cause there are some beggars around the neighborhood. I felt safe every single day. You also get a welcome drink. The bathroom was great. The shower was cold or it was me who couldn't do it right.

The cleaning stuff didn't clean the room every day. Or at least didn't change the towels or cleaned the floors. It's said they do a laundry service, but that isn't true.

A nice place to discover Rio. I enjoyed 2 nights there and the excursion to Ilha Grandi. You can feel welcome and safe in this place, even if the surrounding is not without social tasks. From the rooftop you have a beautiful view and party location and the chance to meet kind people from all over the world. There is an underground very near that brings you to Copacabana and Ipanema very fast and ecofriendly!

Around this area are some homeless people who need more help and social integration.

For price , it was excellent.Security guard 24 hours, food and drinks are decently price, entertainment almost very night, good air con and shops just outside. The shared kitchen is super useful,They also have activities you can book through the hotel.

Cool hostel. Amazing rooftop bar with talented musicians playing. Decent food available.

Air con wasn’t working in our dorm room. We did need to extend and they let us have a private room at a discounted price which was good though :) However the room smelled bad and it seemed a lot of people had this issue I don’t know if it’s the air con or vents or something. Staff at breakfast don’t bring your drink until you’re half way through your food. I wouldn’t walk around outside at night it isn’t safe.

They have a "breakfast kit". Is it good but expensive. The locations is good base for access another places like beach and Seleron's stairs or Lapa bohemia center.

Nice place with modern facilities, very good breakfast options and comfortable rooms. It's a hangout spot for many international visitors

The location at the entrance of Lapa makes it a perfect stay for people wanting to go out every night, but makes this hostel feel like a fancy bubble in the middle of the dirt of Rio street. Beaches are far away

Nice rooms and fast wifi. Cool social area downstairs but not enough comfortable sitting.

The neighborhood is kinda shady

I really loved the location and people that were staying in this Selina. Always down to discuss and go to a Bloco together (I stayed during the carnaval season). The location is perfect if you want to party and there are always guards so you feel safe when you come "home"/to your room.

The location, the decoration and the facilities

How noisy it gets all over the building with extremely loud music at the rooftop bar.

Lapa is supposed to be a nice area to go out. Expect the area ALL around swamped with homeless people. This felt uncomfortable.

* The kitchen (was very often in Selina Hostels) is way toooo small * common areas are rare and usually occupied all day by people working on their laptops

I love the atmosphere of the inside of the hostel. The design concept of the lobby and the rooftop were great ideas.

I wish that the sheets were changed more frequently. In the room, it states that an interest of saving water and laundering they only change the sheets every three days. But by the third day, or she still had not been changed, the bed was just made every day by housekeeping. And so on the third day, we asked Downstairs to give us sheets to change the bedding and we did it ourselves. considering that Rio is humid it would’ve been appreciated if the sheets were changed every day. Other than that the place was clean. I also wish that it were in a different location. The hostel itself was beautiful, but I don’t feel like it matched the vibe of the Lapa area. I feel like this specific hostel would fit better in Ipanema or Copacabana.

The place its modern and welcoming. The shared rooms were lil bit small and not ventilated.However, the beds were comfortable. I will suggest to clean more often the curtains near the beds and the sink at the kitchen. Nice place to stay and connect with people.

Location

Great hostel to stay in Rio. Facilities were good and the room was really clean. There is some noise from the rooftop bar but we didn’t mind as it didn’t go on too late.

There are some homeless people in the area that made us a bit anxious but the hostel has good security and we had no issues
