Truly an experience!

I loved the aesthetic (especially for the cost) and all of the subtle touches such as the radio turned onto welcome my arrival.

Great little hotel, would stay here again.

Perfect location to walk to restaurants & shopping, delicious breakfast pastries & drinks every morning, coffee shop in the lobby, cool reading loft on floor 1 1/2. Comfortable beds & massive shower.

Could use a comfy chair in the room, just had a table & stools. People parked out front in the hotel loading zone for ages while having coffee—we ended up walking our luggage up from the garage blocks away.

Want to feel like a cool Portlandian? Book here. Just be warned, we experienced some downsides.

The whole place just feels cool. From the lobby to the rooms, it’s all very trendy without trying too hard. room was a decent size and we LOVED the Rudy hand wash/shampoo. The breakfast is a nice touch. love the candle scent in the lobby and the location is bang on for exploring the old town and CBD area of Portland.

Our room was above the lobby. Even though they lock the front door at sundown to only let people staying in, they continue to play their music at a loud volume all night. The bass reverberates through the walls and none of us could sleep. Also, the shower in our room didn’t get hot in the mornings. we even left it running for 10 mins to warm up. it didn’t. lukewarm showers at best. One morning the brekky room wasn’t open either. no explanation, just locked. we counted on it to grab a pastry and go, but had to buy brekky somewhere else that day. staff were blasé about everything too, don’t expect a stereotypical US hotel greeting or much friendliness at all. almost felt like anything we asked them was an inconvenience.

The charm of the hotel makes for a pleasant short stay

the charm of the hotel and the rooms was nice. the charm was a pleasant surprise for the middle of downtown Portland. also enjoyed the cleanliness and simple room layout.

the tv orientation in the room was awkward. and the bathroom was a little small. wish there was a microwave in the room, but the mini fridge was nice to have.

Fun stay downtown

The aesthetic was vintage and modern. It was in a good area of the city with easy street parking. The temperature in the room perfect.

We booked a room specifically because it was one of the only ones listed with a walk-in shower instead of a bath. We were given a room with a bath. Either we were given a different room or the description on this site is wrong.

The staff were welcoming and the rooms were clean and comfortable.

The Ace is a cool hotel for young people or families with teens.

Downtown Portland has changed and so the location of the Ace is no longer ideal due to visible homelessness, business closures and terrible service likely due to staffing shortages. Most of the restaurants we remember visiting pre-COVID have been permanently closed. it’s really sad.

I would stay there again but I would probably select a room with better lighting.

Quiet rom, hotel location is great, convenient to the train service so it was easily reached from the airport. Coffee shop next door was excellent. Located close to Powell books. Delicious muffins and danishes at breakfast. Comfortable bed. Seating areas I hotel were interesting.

The room was quite dark even with the shade opened, the room was on the back of the hotel. The lighting in the room was quite dim. Also one had to be mindful of the step-up into the bathroom-especially in the middle of the night.

Very good

When I checked out I was told that they would email me my bill which they never did! I was asked for my email when I checked in which they might of gotten wrong or they just forgot to send it.

A classic portal into the DIY aesthetic of the Pacific Northwest.

We liked the help yourself breakfast room with anything you need throughout the day. Our room was minimally decorated with an open-concept shower that has its charm.

Sound travels between floors.

Fun hotel with a comfortable yet industrial feel.

The desk clerk who checked us in was friendly, energetic and helpful. The nighttime doorman was also very friendly. Decor in the lobby was very well done. The half floor common area was really cool, as was the breakfast room on our floor. Our beds were comfortable and had nice linens. The room itself was on the small side, but had a cool industrial feel. I like that they offer reusable glasses rather than disposable plastic ones. The hotel is near a pizza place with a nice little bar around the corner. There’s a ton of other restaurants near by as well. It’s also very nice that the hotel doesn’t have weight or breed restrictions on dogs.

The website indicated that the room had a mini bar. It was actually an empty fridge. A sign in our room said that the lobby had beer and wine for sale, but they do not. I’m not sure if it’s a licensing issue or something else, but it would have been nice to have a night cap at the end of the day. My bill had a convenience fee that I was not aware of when I booked the room. I’m not sure what this fee pertains to. Like most Portland hotels, there is no parking. We parked three blocks away at the US bank garage. Unfortunately my car window was smashed overnight. I don’t know if I would have had a different result had I parked at the Union Bank garage as suggested by hotel staff, so that may be on me. It’s not the hotel’s fault that it happened, but it does speak to what kind of neighborhood the hotel is in. It looked as though someone had walked through the garage smashing windows at random, not just mine. I would stay at the hotel again, but only if I didn’t bring a vehicle.

Loved the hotel and the Pearl District but for any guests with cars, the parking is tough.

Loved the decor and overall vibe of the hotel. Breakfast was great. It was quiet and I could see it being a perfect place to work if you were there on business. We had a room for two, but our adult kids were in a room for four, and that was also perfect for them.

Parking was a real problem that very nearly ruined our experience. It was hot when we were there and we were strongly warned at the front desk the only safe parking option was a brewery block garage 4+ blocks away, which did not have in-and-out privileges. I parked there initially for the afternoon, but it was hard to find (poor signage), hard to get to driving (many one-way or closed streets), a long walk in the heat (would require multiple trips for me, the driver, because we went back out a couple of hours later for the evening) and not at all clear where long-term spots in the garage were located (guy in the booth was also not helpful but listed many places we could not park overnight). When we returned to the area later that night after dinner, in the dark, still hot out, it was way too much to manage, so we ended up parking in the lot catty-corner from the hotel entrance on 10th Street, which was very convenient, about the same price, and completely safe—for us walking back and the car overnight. But still we worried all night long because of the front desk warnings—this was a rented car and we had to catch a flight out of PDX the next morning—would have been a big hassle and possibly a missed flight if the car had been damaged as the front desk had warned might happen. I suggest you work out a better parking arrangement for guests—and a simple idea would be to have valet parking.

I felt immersed in the Portland scene by staying at this hotel-lots of weird places to visit nearby!

Very cool vibe with the facilities & staff. Free bottled water whenever asked. The claw-foot tub was extraordinary after a long train ride. There were plenty of good restaurants nearby - short walk. The lobby was a fun place to hang out.

I missed having a comfy chair in the room to watch TV or relax - the only place to sit was at the desk or on the bed. The lighting was very dim...maybe a dimmer switch would have given me the option for brighter lighting. The coffee at the free breakfast was not good...and Portland should have the best coffee, even the free stuff. I had to buy coffee out to experience a good cup of coffee!

We had a very nice time at the Ace Hotel

it was convenient and the decor was unusual and had a nice feel. it reminded me of my college dormitory days

The room needed more lighting and the air conditioner unit was not functioning very well. The floor seemed gritty.

The Ace continues to be an excellent property with good vibes, great location, and well priced.

It had been 9 years since I'd stayed at the Ace Portland and the vibes are still there. Very clean and comfortable well appointed rooms. The location is perfect.

Breakfast bar was out of all items at 9:15am, no hot water in 2nd floor shower (but you can always go to another floor).
