The staff at the reception desks varied, from people who were ignoring us upon check-in, to people who were extremely helpful at the checkout. Very attentive staff at the restaurant and delicious food!

I loved the decor inside and out .Reception workers were wonderful and very friendly . Bathroom and room were spotless.Location was ok ,short walk 10min to nearby attractions /shops .

The bar and restaraunt staff seemed more interested in themselves than serving .Basic niceties like hello and goodbye ,or would you like something to drink ? I got ignored on numerous occasions to the point I left twice after 15 min as they were talking to each other on the bar .They never noticed ....Always having to fetch an ashtray myself.... Sadly coffee is awful 😖 and my last order of a double espresso with a drop of milk was met with ....yeah the milk is cold ...I said ok Then the bill came with 4.50 for coffee and 3euro charge for the tiny amount of milk!? I gave her 10euros ...not even a smile or a thankyou ...Sadly this let the whole experience down .spending over 2500 euros for 3 nights i expect service and not over pumped egos .Rolling eyes and oblivious to people walking in or out but plenty of time to chat with each other ... Shame .So many positive points but soured by the bad service of a few .

The staff were lovely and very helpful

It felt like a bit of a catfish with a good pictures, but in reality quite kitschy. There was no real 4 star experience, with an empty mini-fridge and an air conditioner that could not be put below 22 (with it being 32 degrees outside even during the evening). We slept on the made bed, because of the heat. And also the view was terrible from our rooms window. In conclusion, this would have been a very nice surprise if I had booked a hostel, but for a 4 star hotel, the value for money was terrible.

It’s a way out of town and the staff are quite ‘relaxed’, I asked for a fan for our room and was assured he’d bring one but we never got it. Everyone is friendly but the service is not very attentive.

It was quirky and had a good vibe. Food was good and staff were very nice.

Our air conditioning wasn’t working, and for 31 degree heat in the south of France it was quite unacceptable. It is not a cheap hotel, so this was a problem. We were given a fan for the first 5 days to compensate but had to ask for another because we couldn’t sleep due to the heat. Also, the TV had to keep being ‘reset’ as it wouldn’t switch on a lot of the time. Once, we were watching and it just went black.

Good food, nice location and simple rooms

My bathroom flooded (shower was broken) and it was never fixed. The staff were very relaxed about it when it’s a pretty key part of a staying at a hotel!

Mama Shelter is very nice hotel with a great rooftop area with a pool. The breakfast was very good. Unfortunately their road construction going on right outside the hotel, horrible noice so we requested a room far away from the noice. We were also going to celebrate my 60th birthday but we ended up on the first floor, room 115 far away from the noice but with no view. Like staying in a bunker. Really disappointing specially when we had mentioned that it was my birthday. Our daughter had a room on the 4th floor with a nice view.

Breakfast was a treat for being vegan with plenty of fresh fruit, vegetables and salad. I had mushrooms with courgettes on sourdough and fruit salad topped with nuts and seeds. You can even make your own smoothie from scratch which was a lovely touch. There were different dairy-free milk options available and they frothed up my oat milk for my coffee which made it feel extra special. My room was cleaned every day and all the staff were genuinely lovely and helpful. The receptionists, bar staff and cleaners were so kind and made me feel really welcome throughout my stay. The pool is on the smaller side but it wasn’t too busy so it turned out to be a peaceful and relaxing spot. I also had some mocktails and an espresso by the pool which tasted so good and made the experience feel like a real treat. The hotel decor is absolutely beautiful and everywhere you look you feel like taking a photo. It has such a fun and uplifting atmosphere that makes the whole experience even more enjoyable. Unfortunately I missed some of the live events but they sounded great and I’d definitely love to catch them next time. I’d happily stay here again and with it being so central to the town.

It’s a bit of a shame that the lunch and dinner menus are limited when it comes to vegan options.

The hotel is incredible such a cool vibe the aesthetic is amazing. The bar and restaurant are really cool the interiors really is so impressive. The pool area is really cool also. I was blown away. overall 10/10. Staff were so incredible, helpful friendly, efficient really fantastic. Special shoutout to the bar staff were amazing! Ask for Sam if your looking for a good cocktail best there is!

Only one towel in the room for two people and they did not bring a second one although we asked. In the restaurant most of the items were out. No shower gel. Mama definitely does not like us anymore.

The room was very small and had no place for hanging clothes; this can be inconvenient if the stay is longer than a couple of days.

Stayed on my own with my 4 year old - everything was lovely. One thing is if you order room service you have to go down to collect as they don’t bring to you. Other than that a great stay all round :) will come back

This hotel is a beautiful, new 4-star property with an impressive and creative design. The aesthetics are modern and refreshing, providing a pleasant atmosphere that makes a stay feel both comfortable and stylish. One of the standout features is the outdoor pool, which is a real plus, especially in nice weather. The breakfast service is delightful, with a range of tasty options to start the day, and the breakfast staff is particularly warm and attentive. Additionally, the hotel’s location near the port is ideal for those who want easy access to local attractions, dining, and scenic views.

Despite the hotel’s promising design and location, several aspects of the experience fell short of the expected 4-star standard. The staff seemed inexperienced and at times lacked engagement, which affected the overall service quality. Upon arrival, I was unexpectedly asked for an additional deposit, even though my stay was fully paid. I was told this was noted on the website and booking page, but I had carefully reviewed the terms and found no mention of it. Another issue was the pool, which was advertised as heated but was not. One morning, the pool was closed, despite posted hours, and we waited 40 minutes for staff to open it. In the room, basic amenities were inconsistent. There was only a small bar of soap provided, and no shower gel, which we ended up purchasing ourselves. The toiletries were sometimes replenished fully, sometimes only partially, with no clear standard. I had booked a “medium” room, but it was so compact that moving around was difficult, which was disappointing given the hotel’s star rating.

The perfect location for exploring the Cote d'Azur thanks to it's proximity to Nice Riquier station. We hopped on the train to visit Cannes, Antibes, Monaco, Monton, Eze and Villefranche but could also walk to Nice Port and Old Town comfortably too. Also incredibly easy to reach from the airport. We love a hotel with a triple room option to accommodate our 5 year old, the breakfast was wonderful and the staff were great too. I loved that the Decor was very on brand but had a subtle nod to the region via murals and fabrics. Extremely family friendly without having to compromise on style.

We had selected the hotel because of the heated pool to allow us to split our days between relaxing and exploring. Sadly the pool heating was not working during our stay which meant we were out and about a lot more - it was fun but more tiring with a 5 year old in tow. The hotel did refund part of our stay without us asking due to this issue which was definitely a kind and appreciated touch.

Where can we start. The decor from stepping through the door is stunning. Staff are so helpful and the room was AMAZING!! We stayed in the XXL mama which is so HIGHLY recommended for families. The facilities are great and the kids enjoyed the pool area. Towels and blankets provided.

There is not much to fault at all everything was fantastic and highly recommended. At a push the pool could be warmer and the restaurant food was good but could be slightly better with food and service.

Great location, short walk to Rue Bonparte. Lovely shower, soft mist and very relaxing. Comfy bed and great quilt. TV has access to great selection of films. Very cool decor! Friendly and helpful staff - helped us with recommendations for restaurants and booked on our behalf. Pool is cool (but can imagine it get busy in the summer).

We arrived an hour early so they said they would try and get us in the room earlier so we waited around. Then checkin time came and they said the air conditioning wasn’t working…ended up only being able to check in 1.5hrs after the actual check in which was not ideal given we had a baby. They should have known the issue earlier to ensure the normal checkin time could be kept, that’s what you pay for

The design elements

It was very hot while we were there and the air conditioning was not working in our room. It was a miserable night. They tried to fix it, but were unable to. O we had to spend the night in the room with no ac. They stated the hotel was fully booked and no additional rooms were available. The did not offer a partial refund or even a voucher for the restaurant. Nothing. They brought us a fan than did not work very well. We were moved to another room the next day. But had to store our luggage and leave the hotel for most of the day.

Great location, friendly and knowledgeable staff

The bed was unbelievably comfortable, they were very on top of cleaning, the staff were friendly. The pool was so handy to have and was really clean with a lot of beds. The food in the restaurant was really nice as well as the vibe. Although there are djs/parties etc you don’t hear anything in your room which is great. The decor etc is amazing too! Makes you feel like you’re staying in the coolest place in Nice.

There was nothing I didn’t like, I would say it’s about half hour walk to the port or a 10-15 min Uber, so if you wanted to be right next to the port it might not be the right location, but we didn’t mind.

Beautiful aesthetic, very cool vibe

I liked the design of Mama Shelter in Nice and the cool vibe at the rooftop, pool and restaurant. The masks and other touches added a whimsical carefree atmosphere to the establishment. Room are new and very clean. Some of the staff were really warm, friendly, welcoming and created a great ambiance. Thank you to Jean great person with great attitude at the breakfast service.

The check in by Charlotte was not good both her English and French was poor, the rooms were not ready at 3pm check in time, we booked two rooms one with two single beds for our daughters and one with double bed. She told us the one with two single beds were ready we went to the room and the single beds were not ready !!!! We asked the staff of Mama Shelter who had an iPad with her but she said reception had not informed her and she didn’t inform housekeeping vto prepare the two single beds, we had to go down to reception again and it was a hassle to get it sorted but they finally did it and our room was ready after 4pm. 3pm is already quite late check in compared to other hotels and to have the rooms not ready on time is quite unacceptable and we paid over 2000 Euros for a few night stay. Needless to say the staff are rather inexperienced and need training and improvement. I hope Mama Shelter management can do something about this. Not sure if I would return as no concession was provided due to the inconvenience especially after travelling on a long trip and not having rooms prepared correctly in a timely manner.

Aircon was broken we called multiple times to get it fixed however we just ended up being offered a fan. Disappointing as this was the only issue. Staff couldn’t really help when aircon should be standard when it’s 30+degrees outside

A new hotel with some interior design mistakes

At the time of writing this review in July 2024, the hotel was brand new (has only been open few weeks). All the facilities were spotless, and staff was super friendly. Our check-in was delayed due to flight cancellations, but the front desk team was there to facilitate our requests accordingly (thanks Fred!). Location was also very conveniently located walking distance to Old Nice and the Port area. Pool was a nice touch. Restaurant was nice and decently priced. Overall a great stay, hotel has a good vibe typical of Mama Shelter. Would stay here again for sure.

The fact that the hotel was new at the time or writing this revire, also means that some of the staff is still being trained and that they are not able to answer every question immediately. But their friendliness and positive attitute smoothened everything.

Could not fault Mama Shelter Nice at all, it is beautiful decor, comfortable rooms, great atmosphere, amazing location and super friendly staff
